Cloth Folds

Cloth Folds 20 posts and 0 image replies omitted. Click to view.
Anyone have any hints and tips for doing cloth folds in Mudbox? It's the one thing I just find utterly frustrating to get to look right. Doing simple folds on a shirt is OK but I've just tried to do a folded up sleeve and must have started it over like 5 times due to getting fed up with it not coming out right. Maybe it's because I can't find the right brush to use. I've been using the knife tool with a stamp that for the most parts creates great long, slight folds but when it comes to tight folds with this crumpled sleeve it's just useless.

My keys are vanishing in 3ds MAX. As in, I animated a book opening. After rendering, my keyframe markers have vanished. However when I hit play in the viewpoint, it still work fine. Any ideas anyone?

So what's the deal with mudbox /3/? It has hardly any community behind it but the only things that I see that make it a lesser version of zbrush is the masking and everything you can do with that, as well as a subtool equivalent.

Hey everybody, i come to you in my moment of need. So, i'm kinda starting to use Arnold on maya and is fantastic, is fast and easy and the results are beautiful BUT when i tried to render a hair system it just didn't work. It renders everything but the hair. MtoA seems to be loading properly and i am using shave and haircut on Maya 2013. Also this message has appeared on the info as well... so i think this might be telling me what is wrong and so i've looked for it on the web but all i've found is people with the same issue, not a solution... Maya 2013 sourcing MEL override C:\solidangle\mtoadeploy\2013\scripts\mtoa\2013\mel\initDefaultFilters.mel pymel.internal.factories : WARNING : could not create a PyNode for manipulator type shaveBrushManip Any advise? besides "just use another render". Sure, i could use V-ray or mental ray too but Arnold speed is really appealing to me so if anyone knows how to fix this please do tell.

hey, /3/pots. What's up with all the >muh unreal 4 can render that in 1/60 of a second which makes your vray.png suck It may be the same guy in every thread but anyways, here's my question Is unreal 4/ unity/ sfm actually a good idea for animation/ archviz production as opposing to vray/ cycles/ furryball ? I've never used game engines before and would like to know what the limits are. also i've heard some time ago that importing and exporting to game engines are too much trouble compared to the faster render times. Is this still true? >tl;dr = Will you use a G/E as a renderer?

Motion Capture

Motion Capture 21 posts and 0 image replies omitted. Click to view.
Have you guys ever done motion capture before for your 3D models? Xbox 360 Kinects are dirt cheap, tons of them used under $40 on Amazon, and I've seen videos of people doing mocap with them. I'm awful at posing and doing animation in Blender, so I figure this might be an easy way to do 3D animation. Are there better 3D cameras for mocap? Which mocap software have you had the most success with? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qC-fdgPJhQ8

/3/ i need advice,I still a bit confused on when and how i should create a normal map for a hard surface model i made in 3ds max and I think i got it but i want to know you think this is the right thing to do.. usually when i model in 3ds max or maya i keep a close eye on the poly count which effects the detail and quality of my mesh a lot...from now on im think of doing what i usually do on zbrush.. pay no attention to the poly count, make everything the way i want, save the high poly mesh, retopologize than make a normal map using xnormal.. is that the right way to do it?
