Hello, /3/, just visiting with a question of personal interest! Do 3D animators these days use any kind of physics engines to animate maybe car crashes or other 'physics heavy' scenes? Or are they just highly trained animators who do it all by hand?

That feel when you've been away from 3d for a few months, and you've forgot everything. all the shortcuts, the faults of which programs and which program was better for what. what version of something you were using. tries new version of blender, all old scripts are ded and haven been updated. what was the solution to that thing I asked about on that forum one time.. which fucking forum did I ask it on. what were the best settings to do that, I don't fucking remember.. its like being a newfag again.

Hey /3/ this problem has been driving me nuts and I can't find a solution. The picture shows an example of a model with a subdivision and an armature modifier in two different orders in the modifier stack. The one on the left has the armature first and then subdivision modifier while the one on the left has the subdivision modifier and then the armature modifier. As you can see the one on the left has a really nice deformation while the right one has a really ugly deformation where the upper part of the limb bends farther than the rest of the leg. The left one looks very nice but I need to export the model into another program and when I do I lose that nice deformation and when I play the animations it becomes the ugly one seen on the right. I've tried applying the stack but it just becomes the left one, and I don't know how to achieve the right results manually no matter how I weight the verts it just never looks as good as the left one. Has anyone else ever run into this problem before? Is there any way I can preserve how nice the left armature affects the model?

is anyone able to upload anything to tf2 workshop today? there was update and I think something broke, when I try to upload texture to my model it says" error material vmt1 missing cloak effect " Im not making item for a spy so why would I need cloak effect, and Im uploading texture that I already tested in steam workshop preview before and it worked, so.. can anyone confirm if its problem with workshop, or just some error on my end?

This is a pretty blind shot in the dark but i'm getting pretty desperate. I'm trying to do an IK rig for a steam engine in blender, so i can ultimately animate it for source. And i've been banging my head against the wall for about five days now, scouring every tutorial i can find and every possible article on IK but i just can't get this to work. i can get the main piston rod and crank to follow the wheel right, but beyond that i'm entirely lost. I've tried everything four times time and again and i just can't do this. Usually i'd beat my head against the wall until it works, but this is for a contest on facepunch and the deadline is tomorrow. I've spent the better part of a week trying to get this to work , so maybe i'm just an idiot, but can anyone help me? this is making a fool of me

This is a technical question. I have a 8.5 mil polymesh and I made a retopologized version of it in Topogun. How do I transfer or extract the details of the high poly and apply them to the low poly? Should I project UVs in the highpoly and then project them accordingly in the lowpoly for the normal and disp maps? Is there a path of doing this, that I'm missing? I should say that I have no way of reconstructing subdivs in the highpoly mesh. Thanks in advance /3/
