Hey guys, I'm new to 3D modelling, using blender. Any idea what is causing these Wolverine claws when I view my model in Object mode but not edit mode? I made the hand by modeling the shovel shape of the palm, modeling the fingers, then attaching the fingers vertex by vertex. I thought it might go away when I finished closing off all the faces, but it's still there. I don't have any modifiers on either, as far as I can tell.

so, whats a smart way of setting your mes up to generate a normal map in 3ds max, is it better to create a rough low poly mesh first, clone/hide it than add details to the clone, or go all in make everything than clone it and optimize it? this shit still confuses me

that fucking envelope I was setting up a transfer map when I realized my target mesh normals were reversed. me: "No problem! Just close the interface and reverse normals, so the envelope will be created straight next time" maya: "prepare your anus, anon" I open again the transfer map interface, the envelope won't get straight. I deleted history and tried again, nothing changed. basically the software already assigned an evelope for that object and wouldn't make a new one me: "no problem! I'll just export the mesh in OBJ without additional information, should work!" maya: "nope" me: "what about FBX?" maya: "lel" me: "...DAE?" maya: "well I think I'm gonna crash because fuck you!" me: "..." I exported and reimported, duplicated, tried to delete envelope etc etc. I couldn't reset it. No matter what I did. It was very annoying and it's not the first time it happens to me. I fucking hate it that there isn't a damn node anywhere I can just select and delete. I even opened the hypershade and searched for hidden connections, what the fuck. Why does the geometry store the fucking envelope information and how do I reset it once it has been created a first time?

hey guys, I'm really sorry to ask you for help. I am actually a programmer and just want to make this model work. I'm trying to export this to an .fbx so I can use it in Unreal 4, my problem is with the bones and making it one full mesh. so, I tried to things. 1. joining everything together by selecting it with "A", and then ctrl + j this makes the bones actually not work at all, the wheels don't turn, and UE4 has a hard time with the shape of the wheels to make the collisions. 2. joining everything except the wheels, but then when I do that, UE4 imports everything as different meshes (it skips 3 wheels also for some reason) and then I can't make it work either because the wheels are not in the same skeletal mesh. I don't really know what to do, and I tried asking in the UE forums but it's kind of new so there is not much support.

In Blender there's a function called "Quads to tris" which converts all triangle pairs into quads where possible. I'm kind of curious, I'm sure this feature exists in other software but which is the best at it? Would anyone be willing to test and post screenshots of different results on the same model(any game model rip, for example) in say Blender, Maya, Modo, 3dsmax? Or has this been discussed already/common knowledge?

I`m having troubles with making organic models. Are there any examples for a correct and good topology for a human face? How would you see the edge flow for a monster? Can I get some reference or tutorials for understanding how topology would flow? Pic related, is that a good reference for face topology?

I see a lot of complains about VFX Artists saying that even though they dominate the software they still don't get hired? Why? Well i'll tell why, you focus too much on the software and too little on concepts, you don't know about composition, illumination, color theory, or typography, you don't know design principles, nor animation principles, you don't develop an artistic sensibility, VFX houses are looking for a mix of concept and software understanding. I know that concepts i listed are general and not applicable for all. After a year of change finally got hired.

Greetings /3/ I'm not very experienced in 3DCG, but I have decided to start with motion caputre combined with character animation. What is the best set up and which software should I use? So far I'm thinking about iPi Motion Capture combined with Cinema 4D. I don't really know much about Motion Capture software, I know there are a few other, but are they any good? So far I have only 1 kinect, should I bother to get a second one? I'm also considering to ask some dancers and martial art guys to perform infront the kinect. Do they have to move at 1/2 speed? Would I also be able to sell those caputres? Thanks.
