wow, i been watching a lot of inside the studio videos lately and from what i saw was everything was divided in groups like 1 group of 5 guys were only environment (trees, grass, rocks) 1 group was only weapons and armor. 1 was for creatures and so on... why is this? is that more effective?

hey guys, I'm really sorry to ask you for help. I am actually a programmer and just want to make this model work. I'm trying to export this to an .fbx so I can use it in Unreal 4, my problem is with the bones and making it one full mesh. so, I tried to things. 1. joining everything together by selecting it with "A", and then ctrl + j this makes the bones actually not work at all, the wheels don't turn, and UE4 has a hard time with the shape of the wheels to make the collisions. 2. joining everything except the wheels, but then when I do that, UE4 imports everything as different meshes (it skips 3 wheels also for some reason) and then I can't make it work either because the wheels are not in the same skeletal mesh. I don't really know what to do, and I tried asking in the UE forums but it's kind of new so there is not much support.

Ignore the shittiness of the model here, but how would I go about rigging the front wheels to be able to turn left and right AND continue rotating locally? The 2 front tires are currently parented to a single bone in the middle of the axle for revolutions, I was wondering if can add one to each tire for Z axis rotatations, but can an object have 2 parents?

Any NX users about? I was trained up on NX but my company sent me to university recently, which use solidworks for most modules. I just can't get my head around solidworks. I mean I get how it works and I can use it but everything just seems so backward and hard. when it comes to concepting/designing ID stuff like planes, vehicles and hard-surface props for games and movie previz, is there really any point in working 2d? isnt 3d much faster, smoother, accurate, presentable, and turntable-able? im having a hard time trying to justify shit like pic related. what are your thoughts on this /3/ ?

This is a film we filmed nearly two years ago that we never made the ending to, I never finished editing, and will more than likely never be finished. So I figured why the hell not just post it on the internet. I got five scenes edited, and this is the first of them. More was filmed, and who knows, I may just cobble the footage into a movie just for giggles this summer. But the sad fact is that an ending was simply never made. So I figure these may be of some interest to someone. More to come.

Hey guys, I'm new to 3D modelling, using blender. Any idea what is causing these Wolverine claws when I view my model in Object mode but not edit mode? I made the hand by modeling the shovel shape of the palm, modeling the fingers, then attaching the fingers vertex by vertex. I thought it might go away when I finished closing off all the faces, but it's still there. I don't have any modifiers on either, as far as I can tell.

What is the Phrase for non polygon based computer models? I remember an article or interview by LucasArts saying that today's computer processors are now strong enough that we no longer need to use polygons to construct models. Does anyone remember what that form of processing is called and better yet what article/interview that was in? I think it was either in context with the Force Unleashed series or Star Wars Episode III. Thank you for reading!

I have a challenge for you /3/. Let's say I was to make a few models of people's heads in 3d, would there be a way, script, or any very automated way of simply cutting the face (only) and stick it on a cube? I've always used blender but don't mind looking into other programs if it's worth it.
