I'm using zbrush and making a mesh with a hinge joint. I don't need to sketch with spheres or anything, and the object only requires one joint to move on a hinge-how do I do this? Is there a way to add a joint to an already existing mesh? Pic related, essentially the function of the joint I need.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FDdNn0x7Y0Y Hi sorry for the noob post but I'd like to know how this video was made, I am a long time minor fan of Chris Cunningham's work (fist known about through Aphex Twin) it looks to me like it should be doable with a (few) good adobe after effects or premier plugin(s) but the only thing I've heard so far is that Maya was used so I thought I'd ask here, any info at all would be helpful. anything like: what tools could be used, who does this kind of work, what skills are required etc. even an easy method to make a low quality but quick concept piece would be awesome. I figure a middle of the road graphics workstation or gaming rig should be enough to produce something like this in 2014?

Just want to make sure I have this down right. So now that I have this done I can retop it. But I need to keep the poly count as low as possible since I will be porting it into Pepakura (a 3D program that 'unfolds' objs so you can origami them from paper) so I can keep the amount of work to a minimum. So do I append a zsphere to each tool as I'm doing this since it's still pretty much the same workflow? Save that I'm going to have it really low poly? I also have an obj that shows essentially how the end product should be since someone was nice enough to make a low-poly for me, but it's not exactly what I wanted and wanted a more accurate design.

Hey /3/ I'm using after effects, and I'm wondering,is it possible to show the elements of a composition in another composition. e.g. I have the 'background' image in a composition, and developing a character in a different composition. Is it possible to 'view' the background element from comp 1 in comp 2 so I can see it while I edit the character in comp 2. Thanks.

I'm new to 3D modelling and related. I mean I have a decent skills in Blender and I've made some basic meshes before, but nothing advanced. I've decided I want to make a game, So I'm currently making a mesh for a character who I will add details too. I'd say this is pretty good for my first big creation in blender, and first time using the sculpting tools. I have one half of the body now, so is there a way to flip at and merge all the vertices without having to do them each by hand? Pic related.

Hello, I'm trying to make a character with a simple peacoat but for some reason I'm having some huge difficulties shaping the collar. How would you guys suggest I make it in Maya? Start with a pipe and extrude the shapes out, use the make polygon tool...what? The rest of the model will be easy but I'm totally stuck here, and since I'm going to be animating said character the coat will need to deform well. Here's a screenshot of what I've got so far. I want to keep the character very low-poly, geometric and simple. Do you guys think it would just be better to make the line that separates the collar in half a texture rather than actual geometry?
