When I try to import an fbx into unity i see the correct object in preview icon, but not in the scene when I drag it in. Im using modo to export. Can anyone shed a light on how to get it in the scene correctly? or what I might be missing?

I'm new to 3D modelling and related. I mean I have a decent skills in Blender and I've made some basic meshes before, but nothing advanced. I've decided I want to make a game, So I'm currently making a mesh for a character who I will add details too. I'd say this is pretty good for my first big creation in blender, and first time using the sculpting tools. I have one half of the body now, so is there a way to flip at and merge all the vertices without having to do them each by hand? Pic related.

i keep getting this stupid error and idk why, its starting to piss me off because i cant figure out why... anyone help?

why is there a gap between these? it's a plane with a cloth modifier with a silk preset, the skull model was downloaded from somewhere. my aim is to have the cloth slap onto the skull and have most of it's features show through the cloth

Ignore the shittiness of the model here, but how would I go about rigging the front wheels to be able to turn left and right AND continue rotating locally? The 2 front tires are currently parented to a single bone in the middle of the axle for revolutions, I was wondering if can add one to each tire for Z axis rotatations, but can an object have 2 parents?

Just finished this low poly sword as practice. How is it? what can I do to make it better/prettier? is the texturing and topology ok? I was going for a somewhat realistic look, I'll have a render of it up shortly.

Worst 3d communities and why >1.) polycount - just terrible >2.) cgtalk - pure shit >3.) foundry forums - casual city Best >1.)/3/ - the one and only >1.) zbrush central - stuff gets made here xD

You show what program you use and state like this: .Program: Autodesk Maya .Pros.: .relatively easy to learn .relatively easy for animation .Cons.: .Modeling sucks sometimes (several tools are still unstable) .animating more advanced things does need its extended training .Impossible to use for realistic modeling and rendering .opinion: it's the program to use for caricaturistic animation, anything else than that isn't recommended

I'm a bit new to 3d. If I wanted to render pic related, what would be the best way of going about it? The image was produced sometime around the late 90's, so I assume it would be a lot easier to reproduce in this day and age?

I'm curious on /3/'s thoughts on the best programs for creating photorealistic hair. Specifically in terms styling, physics, and rendering. Hair farm seems to be the easiest to model and style but the physics are lackluster (plus 3dsmax only). In fact with physics it seems there hasn't been anything new for years outside of technical papers and Pixar's proprietary dark magic. In terms of rendering Maxwell has impressive results through sheer brute force, but there has to be something faster.

so, whats a smart way of setting your mes up to generate a normal map in 3ds max, is it better to create a rough low poly mesh first, clone/hide it than add details to the clone, or go all in make everything than clone it and optimize it? this shit still confuses me

Real quick Blender question (Google didn't give any answers) So I made the breasts on the opposite side of the mirror, is there some kind of modifier or trick I can use to flip which side of the mirror they're on?

Does anyone know how this type of look is made? Can it be achieved without Vray and/or GI? What settings should I use in my materials? http://www.behance.net/gallery/14482563/Nickelodeon-Popcorn http://www.behance.net/gallery/11208847/September-Update

What is the Phrase for non polygon based computer models? I remember an article or interview by LucasArts saying that today's computer processors are now strong enough that we no longer need to use polygons to construct models. Does anyone remember what that form of processing is called and better yet what article/interview that was in? I think it was either in context with the Force Unleashed series or Star Wars Episode III. Thank you for reading!

I have a challenge for you /3/. Let's say I was to make a few models of people's heads in 3d, would there be a way, script, or any very automated way of simply cutting the face (only) and stick it on a cube? I've always used blender but don't mind looking into other programs if it's worth it.

I've looked for a solution to this but can't find one, so I thought I'll ask here just using this as an example. I'm using Maya. Is there a way that I can move a vertex along the highlighted axis and get it to snap to the opposite edge, so that the plane is completely flat?

Hey, hoping someone could help me out, I'm trying to re-create the Atom Bomb testing house from the 1950's and I can't get the exploding particles to go in only one direction, could someone point me in the direction of a tutorial or a decent free script? Thanks

/3/, I am looking for a good source from which to learn, so that I can improve my skill in CG. I have looked at digital tutors, and they have a literal ton of stuff, but it seems like they never contain their tutorials to one tool. Why do they do that? I get that in the industry, people hop from tool to tool as assets enter different stages of production, but teaching someone in that manner seems counterproductive for fully learning each tool. Am I just looking at it wrong? Are there any other sources that you'd recommend for me, that hop from tool to tool less in the course of teaching? I am currently working on developing a strong base set of skills in Maya, and would like to do what the sticky says (get fully proficient with my generalist software before wandering off to another program to work on specific aspects of CG). Thanks in advance for any help you can offer. >pic is a project I did at Uni, and illustrates about where I am in terms of modelling.
