>2014 >Not making 300+USD a week on a virtual marketplace So, As many of you i want to begin making money on popular marketplaces for selling models and various content. i have used second life in the past to earn a income, but what other options are there? and what kind of models are the best option to sell?

Hello, teapots. I'm looking into using Daz3d for my purposes. What I want to do is prototype a bunch of generic humanoid animations as placeholders for a 2d game, then let artists "paint over" the frames later on. Is this a viable approach? I would also want to create some basic props with Blender and import them into Daz3d, is this possible without much hassle? I'm specifically interested in Daz/Blender because they are free and at the current point commercial software is out of the question. Opinions? Experiences? Alternatives?

Is there any scientific method for capturing realistic textures? People use HDR for sky maps, how about materials? How do you light a tree bark to actually capture it's spec properties? How do you light it to get the best, most accurate normal map? Looks like people still map contrasty photos onto equally bad geometry and then play around with the sliders. Is there some kind of scientific process for doing this - measuring reflectivity, accurate calibrated color? It seems like all variables in material properties are not based in reality at all.

This may be a shot in the dark but is there a way to turn a 2D image of a painting and turn it 3D, with the paint strokes being the surfaces? So far the best way I know is using photoshop's Find Edge filter and using it to apply displacement onto a surface, but it seems to be a cheap inaccurate way. Are there any other better methods?

Anyone have good tutorials on trees/bushes, foliage in general?; for the purposes of animation not vidya. I have a couple that mostly use plug-ins for automatic tree bases and alpha maps for leaves, but is that how most are done, or are there more refined/detailed methods? I mainly use maya, but can work things out with most tutorials.

How much do i have to pay one of you guys to make me this guy? I'll use it in unity so it needs to be able to move, to walk, be animated. The chain can be a bit longer. This artist made it smaller than i intended. >tldr: name your price to model this guy

What's up faggots, I'm an Architect and somehow someone recommended my work. I'm used to make furniture, bathrooms, sinks, houses and all that kind of stuffs. But one lady called requesting me to model a straightener and make a video something like this. I would be able to make it but i don't know how much money should I ask, because she also need a video something like the one i embedded. TL;DR How much money should you ask for make a video like this one, incluiding the straightener 3d modeling. > inb4 I model with 3ds Max and AutoCad.

Hey guys bit of a beginner here but allow me to explain my issue. Ive made this hair for my character and im actually rather pleased but its an absolute polygonal mess. I was hoping to join vertices along those lines and have nice connections at the circle. Im being ambitious as fuck but was hoping there was some hidden secret to doing this in a simple manner. Im using maya 2014 and can already sense that I'm going to have to start the hair from scratch. Any feedback appreciated, thanks in advance

Basics of realtime lighting

Basics of realtime lighting 4 posts and 0 image replies omitted. Click to view.
I might have a chance to work on a low/no budget game as a lighting artist (prolly enviroment, scenes and stuff like that). I don't expect this game to be a hit, being low/no budget and all. But it will be valuable to get some skills in the lighting department. Where would one need to go to learn the basics for that? I already have Unity installed and I already did set some lights (they look "ok"), but I'd think there is more to that. What I'm trying to learn is this: - How to set up light that looks good but is not wasting ressources - How do I decide when to bake lighting and when not to - What books are a good read on realtime lighting - I assume I also have to work with shaders an such. Any books or tutorials I should look for? Thanks :D Picture related. It's kind of sort of how I tried to fake GI.
