Anyone here into snowboarding? or more specifically snowboardcross? Everyone circle jerks over slopestyle but SBX is clearly more badass. Related - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pW_tSqMGxZ4

How the fuck was he 98kg/215lbs? He was only 180cm/5'11 tall. Yeah he was pretty buff, but 98kg? Seriously?

Only reason why I train is for practical, functional and realistic defense and combat. Reason why I train a shit ton is fitness, fun and everything else. Thought MMA was the measure of the best "style" unarmed one vs. one. Sweet so I train boxing and judo and other arts that are proven 70% of the time. >Why doesn't anyone train the hand gun? >Why doesn't anyone train melee/knife? Most people train for only "Self defense". Yet stick with only unarmed martial arts and never add on.

Calling all CMAists What is Chen style taijiquan? What is push hand sparring? What would a judoka and ammy MMA guy (me) stand to gain from it? http://uiowa.orgsync.com/org/univeristyofiowachinesemartialartsclub66323 Does this look like a good school? Can anyone tell me if the name of the instructor is anything? I'm trying to be open minded and scientific here. I have a mixed TMA (koryu JuJutsu) semi TMA (judo) and MMA backgroundso I'm not ruling it out but I'm skeptical.

1. You can only train one MA for the next five years. Which is it? 2. You can only train one MA for self defense for the next 5 years. Which is it? Just wanna see what you guys pick and if it makes a difference if self defense is an issue.

So there's 2 types of martial arts: 1. Those that work. 2. Those that don't. In the 'those that work' category we have >BJJ, judo, boxing, muay Thai, wrestling, sambo In the 'those that don't work' category we have: >All Chinese martial arts, all Korean martial arts, aikido, Japanese ju jitsu, everything else. Karate goes in the maybe pile. Chinese and Korean martial arts are exciting to watch but are completely ineffective against a trained fighter. They'd probably be very effective against a peasant farmer in rural China that has no education or electricity and thinks if he has a fire on a full moon he will be lucky this year.

How long did you took to start sparring with your trainers? Ive been doing kickboxing for about 5 months and I feel that 2 trainings per week isn't just enough for me. I always try to find sparring partners before class but they just don't seem that motivated. Today I had to spar with a new guy who couldn't throw a punch and I couldn't punch him too hard, just barely hit him. I want to feel like I'm inside a real fight, I want to feel the adrenaline in my veins, how do I get this feeling? I dont want to have to go to the streets to prove myself.

Why is it absolutely necessary to learn a martial art if you live in a "ethnically diverse" neighborhood? Whenever I ask my friends who grew up in somewhat dangerous communities, they all say they took up fighting at some point in their lives.

I've lurked on this board a bit and this is my first time posting here, I have a question for you guys. How do you define an "alternative" sport? Is it just a sport that not a lot of people play? One that doesn't get much media attention? Is there a very specific category of sports that are /asp/-tier or is that up for debate? I play mostly sports that are considered "rich man's sports" (which is hilarious because I'm a poorfag who just knows where all the cheap clubs/cheap gear is): sailing, fencing, tennis, and rugby. Which of these would be considered /asp/-tier and more importantly, why? I rarely enjoy getting into arguments about semantics but in this case I'm genuinely curious.

Yongmudo

I've been thinking of taking up a martial art for fun/self defense through my university. It seems like the best options are Judo, WTF Tae Kwon do, and Yongmudo (which is apparently a modified form of Hapkido). Does anyone know anything about Yongmudo? I haven't been able to find out too much about it. Also which of the three would be the best choice?
