Hi /clg/, I've never posted on here before. I had a question with no idea what board to go to, so I posted it on /fa/, who directed me here. My friends enjoy doing short films in our free time. They've come along well, but for our next project, we require blood, scar, and bullet wounds. I'm not quite sure where to look to buy something like this (online or otherwise). All my searches have come up with the cheap, easy "Halloween stuff." I realize that even getting a decent kit won't turn us into great makeup artists, but we just need a starting off point. Thanks in advance.

Lord Il Palazzo Cosplay

So, I'm considering putting together a cosplay of Lord Il Palazzo from Excel Saga for a convention that's coming up later this year (more specifically, November; I should have plenty of time), and I have a question. The undersuit part of the costume shouldn't be too hard to put together (though proper suits may be a bit expensive), and a decent wig and circular-lens shades should be easy enough to find. But how should I go about making the shoulder-pads and cloak? I was thinking of using a cardboard framework covered with layers of papier-maché as the base, and attaching the cloak fabric to the internal rim of that. But is there anything (that's reasonably affordable) that would look smoother and more rigid than such a cardboard/papier-maché arrangement? I tried making a HEV suit chestpiece a year or so ago with the above-described cardboard-based technique, but it looked pretty rough, uneven and kind of shitty (ended up scrapping the cosplay completely and just went to the con as Naked Snake instead). Also, regarding size. Lord Il Palazzo's shoulder pads are significantly broader than his actual body width. But by how much? Watching the anime, I figure it's about twice as wide. Though maybe they're wider? But on the other hand, if I make them too wide, it'll make it impossible for me to move through crowded areas without bonking people in the face. What do you fellows think?

The problems in the cosplay community are quite numinous right now, but what if the problems could be traces back to some common thing. Seagulls I have a theory, be it not the main problem in most cases, /cgl/ has either been the main reason or a major amplifer to the problems and is the common factor of the state of the cosplay community. Though?

Hey /cgl/, just wanted your opinion on something. I'm going to be cosplaying Aomine Daiki from Kuroko no Basuke at a con this year I'm still debating on whether to get a wig or not for the cosplay (I have really dark hair already). Do you think that with hair that's pretty much black I'd be able to pull it off, or should I get the wig? I realize his hair is navy blue, but i don't necessarily have the finances for a wig right now to go along with this.

Hey /cgl/, how you all doing today? I'm going to be making the cosplay on the left, and I've run into a bit of a sticking point with the hands, so I thought I'd get you guys' opinions on it. The character has four fingers with claws on the ends, and I wanted to replicate this effect without making big snuggly cat-paw looking things. Can anyone recommend a semi-realistic way to make these hands as gloves? I was thinking I'd put snaps on them that would allow them to attach at the wrist to the inside of the jacket sleeve to eliminate any gaps, but I'm not quite sure what to make them out of in the first place.

I was browsing and came across this picture. It got me thinking, remember when cosplay was almost all about fun? It seems that 10 or so years ago people were just happy cosplaying whatever they wanted, without regard for the catty comments that might ensue. It didn't matter if their costume wasn't that great or if they didn't have model looks, people just gathered and were just happy to express their fandom. There wasn't as much stress on construction or looks, and the convention scene seemed more accepting. Just look at this HAPPY-ASS MOTHERFUCKING CHOCOBO. Can we go back to this simpler time? When we were all just dorks in costume?
