Hey /ck/, I was making cakes, but I pulled them out too early and they weren't done in the center. How can I fix this, if possible? They are a boxed cake mix cake, think betty crocker. They are fully cooled by the way.

Brown Rice Residue

I started using this Asian brand brown rice instead of the supermarket stuff. It's nicer and comes in bigger bags at a better price, but it always leaves a sticky residue around the sides of whatever pot I use to cook it in. This stuff is REALLY hard to get off, I tried soaking it in soapy water overnight which did nothing. The only easy way is to use an abrasive, which I don't want to because I cooked it in a non-stick saucepan (yes, it even sticks to the non-stick). So, has anyone else had experience with this nasty-ass brown rice residue, and how did they deal with it? Any magic tricks that lift it right off?

Novice cook here in need of a little help to present a decent meal. I'm planning to cook for my aunt and uncle on Monday, and I try to make something a little fancy. So far I've planned grilled lamb steak and chops, boiled potatoes, cucumber-tomato salad with mint, and homemade Zaziki for the main course. As dessert I planned custard pudding (or sauce?) with mango cubes. I have a few question for /ck/: What starter could I make? I got bones, so I'm gonna make beef stock tomorrow, maybe I can use that? Does a dry Dornfelder fit with the lamb? If not, what wine should I buy? What other drinks/aperitif can I offer that fit the meal? How does what I planned out so far fit together? Can I garnish the custard with mint leaves, or what else? And most importantly, how do I grill lamb properly and not fuck it up? I got a thermapen, and I will try beforehand, but some pointers would be nice, as I never cooked lamb before. Thanks for all help, I really appreciate it!

Guys, I've got my hands on a whole chicken, (somewhat small, about 2-3 kgs) and a fuck tonne of strawberries which I want to make a dessert with. Since the folks are coming over, I wanted to do something a little fancier than spicy dry rub the whole thing or making chilled strawberries with whipped cream. Any neat ideas that I can whip up for this evening? >pic unrelated, well, its not a chicken at any rate.

>ask /ck/ for a good beginner cookbook >recommend me this mark bittman crap filled with 'cups', 'fahrenheit' etc and little influence from the patrician cuisines (Mediterranean, Japanese) Why does this board have no consensus on a good starter book?

Hi guys, I'm trying to eat healthier lately, toying with going vegetarian. So since rice is loaded with carbs, anyone have any suggestions what a vegetarian substitute for rice would be?

How can you deep fry stuff at home? In my country, you can't really buy any kind of deep fried chicken or any deep fried food at all really (only in chinese resturants). I lived in the UK for a couple of years, and you could get it there at places like KFC and some other more high-end places. How can I make this at home? I only have a regular stove, nothing fancy. Pic related, an example of what I'm talking about.

I live in a small apartment and I don't have a place to grill outside. Is an indoor electric grill actually good? can I cook steaks and shit on them and have them not suck? I would buy a good one like zojirushi or whatever that weeaboo brand with the elephant is.

Anne Hathaway invites you over for a dinner date. This is your one chance to get into her pants. What would you cook her? Keep in mind she's vegan.
