Getting around to doing some car interior DIY This is my knob I have to twist to open the sun/moonroof. The thing is after folding out, you should be able to push it up and it should stick, unfortunately it doesn't do that. After taking it out I see that there is a bolt that broke on one end (pictured) the other side is one of those heads with no screw or anything, just flat. What are these called? I want to get another one of these, pull this one out and pop in another, I've never actually dealt with bolts that have no tool slot

/diy/, I recently purchased a 9' x 6' wallpaper mural of this image, I am very excited to hang it on my wall. The issue is that I live in an apartment and I definitely cannot wallpaper my walls, so I would like to hang it up temporarily. This particular wallpaper set comes 'pre-pasted', which makes me hesitant to just tack it directly to the wall (humidity might activate the glue?), so I'm thinking of mounting each panel (there are three 3'x3' panels) on a foamboard and hanging it up. This would enable me to transport the mural around, which would be ideal as I'm likely moving when my lease is up in 6 months. Now that you have the back story, I would appreciate suggestions on how to hang this sumbitch up without messing up the walls.
I am building a helium balloon... 12 posts and 0 image replies omitted. Click to view.
I am building a helium balloon to send up to the edge of space and obviously I want to film it. However, I will be sending it up in the arctic circle, and based on my calculations for a 6 hour flight and the median weather that time of year it would land 60miles away, which would be inaccessible to me. I don't mind losing my camera, and I was wondering if any technology exists that can allow me to stream the ascent from a go pro or Sony action cam to a computer, given the high altitude. Ive tried to look around but I don't really know where to start. I have a feeling its impossible at a consumer level, but if anybody knows a way or could point me in the right direction. Thanks

Would anyone here be interested in a toolkit, which consists of small boxes, these boxes consist of sensors (like light sensors, temperature sensors etc) and you can build your own technical things for your home? for example turning the light off automatically when you leave a room, or get a tweet when your washing machine is done it will be an easy-to-build boxsystem, and you plug in your desktop to tell the device what it has to do, without programming

So here's the deal /diy/, so I'm scraping by every month. I'm 21 years old, so I have a lot of time to make things better, and I'll be dammed if I sit back and waste my life. So I'm going to trade school to learn the plumbing trade in about 1 year and in that year I want to learn as much about plumbing as I can on my own. I don't know anything as of right now and I don't want to get blind sighted going in. I was wondering if I could get some help from you guys. If you know of any books, videos, diagrams anything that could help I'd be super grateful. I'm hugely motivated, so don't be afraid of overloading me, that's sort of what I want right now.

I want to have a nice kit I can throw in a mid size vehicle to camp with. But there's a catch. I want to do DIY stuff in the wilderness. Primarily because I live in a populated area where hammering things annoys people. Plenty of wilderness around so I intend to make use of it. I was thinking a 8ft tall break down tent and hanging mesh to be my animal fencing, hang from tree to tree. To discourage bears and coyoties from getting funny ideas. Maybe a fun teracotta setup. Gather a load of woodland brush to make fires for the metalworking. Just a weekend out every now and then to enjoy bountiful solo time in the woods. >I will have fire safety in mind as I will make a proper fire pit each time Ideas and suggestions? Blacksmithing and general fire metalworking from bronze to steel. Mostly scrapyard material. Pic related. I may come back with a rough shape of one some day.

I recently moved to a beach community and have been finding lumps of coal on the beach but haven't figured what to do with it. one thing i thought might be fun to try is fusing sand in a mold. I've been looking around on youtube and google but cant find anything specific so I thought i'd ask here. pic related. anyone think it could work? or not? specifically could an open plaster mold surrounded by coal transfer heat to the sand sufficiently to fuse?

Would it be prohibitively expensive to make a room in your house 100% in theme? With wall mounted screens giving you a looping video view of a city scape and surround sound giving you the sounds of being tthere? i've always wanted to live in an apartment made to feel and look like it thousands of floors off the ground on coruscant or in the middle of the fields on dantooine.

Dumb DIY projects you want to try some day. I want to make a real submarine that can only dive with the effort of the fans pulling it down. Knowing if I fuck up it'll float to the surface and if it leaks I ditch it. I'm a lost cause. Lets hear your wishful thinking DIY.
