I want to have a nice kit I can throw in a mid size vehicle to camp with. But there's a catch. I want to do DIY stuff in the wilderness. Primarily because I live in a populated area where hammering things annoys people. Plenty of wilderness around so I intend to make use of it. I was thinking a 8ft tall break down tent and hanging mesh to be my animal fencing, hang from tree to tree. To discourage bears and coyoties from getting funny ideas. Maybe a fun teracotta setup. Gather a load of woodland brush to make fires for the metalworking. Just a weekend out every now and then to enjoy bountiful solo time in the woods. >I will have fire safety in mind as I will make a proper fire pit each time Ideas and suggestions? Blacksmithing and general fire metalworking from bronze to steel. Mostly scrapyard material. Pic related. I may come back with a rough shape of one some day.

Would it be prohibitively expensive to make a room in your house 100% in theme? With wall mounted screens giving you a looping video view of a city scape and surround sound giving you the sounds of being tthere? i've always wanted to live in an apartment made to feel and look like it thousands of floors off the ground on coruscant or in the middle of the fields on dantooine.

So /diy, i found this on the trash the other day. The nixies look like new (Siemens ZM1332), although i haven't tested them yet. My (obvious) plan is to build a clock, but do you have any other ideas? also some ideas of what the circuit was originally for? I got lost trying to understand it.

In my country blackouts are almost a daily occurrence. Some of them can last up to 2 hours. I bought a 500W UPS for my computer and it just sits beside my computer with a 200ah battery. When I bought it I thought I would only be using it for the computer so no need to wire it, then one night during a blackout I hacked a suicide cable (pic related) to run the lights. It is inconvenient to turn off the mains every time I have to power something and after almost having an accident I think its time to throw away the cable and wire this properly. The easiest way to wire it would be to install it below the circuit breaker so my entire room is powered but this is impractical as the UPS would blow up if the blackout occurs when I was using the vacuum cleaner or if I had everything else on simultaneously (computer, speakers, fan, lights, tv). Another problem I face is that I don't want to move it away from the computer. When connected through the USB port I am given all the information on my screen (input/output voltages, battery levels/percentages). This is just too complicated for me. I called up an electrician and he was stumped after finding out that I wanted to move the battery out, leave the UPS beside my computer, have a selector switch through which 1 outlet (computer) is powered 100% of the time through the UPS while the others run through the mains but I have to have the option to turn the mains and put them on the UPS. Damn, this is too confusing :/

Need a strap wrench to accomodate aprox 8" round fitting, re: custom headlight on Motorcycle. All I can find are about 6" max. Do they make a larger one that I'm not finding online or otherwise? If not, what is the best method to make one out of old bicycle innertubes, webbing, and assorted crap? tl;dr How do I big strap wrench?

Considering buying a handheld blowtorch for small welds and other uses. Can any of you skilled metal workers advise? I like the look of the depicted butane pen torch because it's easy to maneuver and cheap, but considering you get what you pay for, is it worth spending like 50$ on those larger canister-style ones instead? And I'm curious about the running cost- INB4 "IT DEPENDS". For example, how many minutes of continuous blue flame would 10$ worth of butane or propane typically get me on these handheld torches?

Anyone else deal with this horseshit? Everytime I go into a hardware store there is always some faggot who has to push into the conversation how I am wrong about something or they know how X is better etc. >Pop into Ace needing a 240 50amp plug since Home Depot doesn't have it. >Guy bout gives a nigga heart attack by jumping out and asking what I need. >Tell him I just need a 3 prong 240v plug. Don't know NEMA code since I am not someone who works with it all day err day. >He shows me to the place. Asks me what I am trying to do with it. >Yeah I got a very old Air Compressor I need to run at a guys house while I do some work and it uses an older 3 prong plug with no neutral. I just got this one to plug into the modern outlets since he has a Dryer plug I can use. I need a cord to run the extra distance I need and also to make it so that this old three prong can get the juice from the 4 prong receptacle since the 3 prongs don't work on 4 prongs. >Uhhh.... Yeah we got what you need but uh, running no neutral can cause problems and burn the house down! 240v extension cords are against code too. >Strange room initiate. Just tell him to give me the plug. Be on my merry ass way. >Be in Loewe's. >Got a frame that needs enclosing for a tumbler and motor I need to make. Time is essential, can't order it and steel yard is 2 hours away. >Ask the dude if he has any sheet metal or expanded metal in the place. >He shows me to it. Says he has 16 gauge 20 and 24 or 26 or something. >Grab a few sheets of this expensive ass 20 gauge cold rolled. >He asks what I am trying to do with it. >Tell him I just got to weld it to a metal box style frame. >He jumps out with his words and says you can't weld no 20gauge sonny. >isthisniggaserious.png >Tell him I could probably do it with 1/16 7018 but the Tig set up would easily knock out all the welding. >He gets all flustered and says there ain't no way anybody of your age (20) can have bought a tig welder. >Leave and weld it out.

I have an arduino project I would now like to move to a circuit board and to make permanent. It's a box with a keypad that upon entering the correct code, moves the position of the motor inside the box and allows the person to open it. A security box, I guess. I was just wondering, do I need the 16Mhz crystal on the circuit board as well/any other components from the arduino itself apart from the ATMega328 or can the project be moved to the circuit board with the ATMega alone along with my components used in correspondence to the project?

>Hello DIYers, first time on this board, thought you guys might have the right expertise. Basically, I left a lamp on too close to the wall and it burned a hole (pic related). It's a rental property I'm vacating in about 2 months. How do I go about patching this? >my current plan 1. Look for some sort of filler type product (not sure the name right now but I've used it before to patch uneven spots/joints etc on plasterboard) to smooth out the burned patch. 2. Take a paint chip to the hardware store and get them to mix me 2 paints, on slightly yellower and one slightly whiter than my shade and I'll experiment to get the proper dry colour. Sound ok?

Hello /diy/, time to make some microphones. I would like to record my band using some kind of ambient microphones. I have read about boundary or PZM. sup /diy/, I have a project I need to do before the weather starts to warm up...already getting in the 80s so not much time left Last summer we got a new AC unit that is loud as a motherfucker...and is right next to my bedroom wall. It keeps me up at night. I need to figure out a way to soundproof the wall on the outside between the AC unit and the wall or on the inside in my bedroom. Huge problem is the amount of space between the wall and AC unit as well as my bedroom window right there...I assume I will have to block the window in the summer as well which is fine. Any help on solutions / materials would be greatly appreciated!
