Was quoted an extra 100+ dollars extra for 8mm glass compared to 6mm, for an aquarium. The overall dimensions of it are 1200x500x450 which will hold about 270 liters (71 gallons) of water. This site: http://www.theaquatools.com/building-your-aquarium says it'll be ok but i want to check with other people.
I want to modify my guitar... 9 posts and 0 image replies omitted. Click to view.
I want to modify my guitar amplifier combo. Here's what I am trying to do: > disconnect amplifier from speaker > solder audio jack (male) to amplifier output > solder audio jack (male) to speaker input > make box with 4 female audio jacks like in pic related What it's supposed to do: > plug amp into one jack > plug speaker into opposite end (amp on top, speaker on bottom or vice versa) > resistor dissipates ~ 2/3rds of the power the amp outputs > speaker is now quieter > do the above but with the other two jacks shorted > resistor is bridged, full amp power goes to speaker Why I am doing this is because I want to be able to use this combo's speaker with other amps, and I want to be able to connect different speakers (and / or load resistors) to the amp. Will what I sketched out work and not burn down my house? I tried to calculate roughly how big the enclosure should be, but I am shit at thermodynamics.

Teaching myself to work with Arduinos. Anyone have any tips or links to good tutorials? Maybe a vocabulary reference? I understand the concept of the global statements and the void loops and whatnot, but the massive amount of terms are killing me. I've never really done coding, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Does /diy/ know of any good software for designing rooms with 2D and 3D viewing modes? All I need is to be able to specify measurements and move furniture around, but all of the ten applications I've already tried either makes you choose furniture out a manufacturers catalog, or the 3D mode looks and controls like it's from the early nineties.

Looking for a decent hobbyish hvlp gun. Just something for general painting of projects. Maybe even trying my hand at painting a few old beaters down the track just to see how it goes. Has to be a brand that would be easily purchasable outside the US (I'm in Aus). Already Googled some reviews, but would be interested to hear any personal experiences /diy/ has to offer. Looking at spending $100. May be able to stretch that to $200, but it would be stretching it thin and would need to be a pretty justifiable jump. Current compressor pushes out 15 cfm with a 50L tank and I have a water trap and regulator on it. Pic related is unfortunately out of my price range.
What magazines does /diy/ like... 17 posts and 0 image replies omitted. Click to view.
What magazines does /diy/ like to subscribe to? The only subscription I currently have is pic related, but sometimes the hipster nonsense is too much for me to take. Most of the articles they put in this publication have little to do with technology aside from phones and other over-priced electronics, although sometimes they do run a decent article every now and then. Does anyone have suggestions for magazines that are a better source of tech news than this magazine? I also love working with electronics and microcontrollers, so what are some good periodicals and other resources for stuff like that? I want something that will give me good information and ideas for projects, not some dumbed-down, disturbingly hipster, Arduino / RaspberrPi -based abomination that posts on twitter and calls your mom every time someone pulls a Pabst out of your vintage refrigerator. I'd also like suggestions for any DIY related magazines. As I become more experienced with electronics and programming microcontrollers I find myself wanting to create much bigger projects. Some more DIY experience will always be helpful with that. Thanks, /diy/, I love you

Hi all, I have a marble bath vanity which I managed to scratch up. I was looking into ways to make it look new and want to avoid the very expensive diamond polish pads if I can. Has anyone had luck or experience with using Rottenstone or some other cheaper method?

Couldn't find a thread to post in so i guess I'll start my own. I'm working on the electronics for a prop and I want to build it so i don't have to remove the battery to charge it. I was thinking of wiring a tamiya connector for charging, but i was wondering if I could wire like my pic. That way I could just plug it in to charge and just pull out and go when ready. Can this work or do I need to disconnect lights first? switch will be off.

I have a camera that has an internal 3.7V LiPo battery. The problem is the runtime is too short. I want to hack off the battery and replace it with AA's. Would it be as simple as hooking up 3 1.2V NiMH AA's in place of the LiPo? What considerations might also be needed for 3 1.5V alkalines? Charging would be done elsewhere, so I'm not concerned with charging through the camera.

I don't know where else to ask this, but has anyone here had experience in real estate? I know that the best I can afford is probably a mobile/manufactured house. What are your recommends for/against this? Are they really that much shittier than a normal house? Is it worth the money, or should I just buy a condo?
