A week ago my laptop's screen started flickering like this. I havent dropped it, it just started happening half way through a movie I was watching for no clear reason. I was able to connect it to a monitor I have at work without any issue. So I replaced the vcd cable, which had no effect what so ever. Is the problem the laptop screen itself? Im hesitant to drop $50 on a new one, when I dont think damaged the old one in anyway

Hey there /diy/ Just to be sure, i'm installing a dishwasher I just bought and I connected the black wwire(hot) from the electric board to the small blade of the type a outlet. Am I correct? As a eurofag I'm not used to these outlets so I'm afraid i'll fry my newly bought appliance. Thank you

If you could send a small care package to a god forsaken orphanage, what would you send? whatever you send would need to enhance their lives in some way. My thoughts are on providing tools for children to learn a semi-skilled industry trade or some level of education they otherwise wouldn't receive. I was thinking along the lines of sending craft tools like jewlery pliers for converting wire and beads into jewlery that could be sold at market and bartered for goods. what would /diy/ send?

What should I do about this? The part at the very bottom is pretty much unreachable with a toilet brush. I've heard Coke is good for cleaning toilets-- can I just dump a 2 liter in there and wait? Pic attached; many thanks in advance.

Is it time for a brewer... 3 posts and 0 image replies omitted. Click to view.
Is it time for a brewer thread? I think so! So I've made my 15 gallons of mash, and now I need to distil, I would be using my pressure cooker, but my friend said using rubber will destroy the taste, make it so that you can't even flavor over it! Is this true at all? >Pic related, it's the rubber I'm worried about for taste.

Hey /diy/ I'm trying to do the old make your own beer bottle thing with this limited edition beer from my favorite brewery. Problem is i'm a perfectionist and I was wondering if you had any reccomendations on the following: >Strings I've been told yarn soaks up acetone/nail polisher best but I'm looking for a string thats thin enough to handle the base of the bottle neck without alot of slipping >Sandpaper Based upon alot of videos I'm gauging that I'll need 220 grit sandpaper at the least but what would you use? Any other tips would be greatly appreciated pic related, the general bottle shape I'll be using

Hello there /diy/, I hail from /biz/! I come to you with a quest for all mankind. What other beverages will serve well out of a water cooler? Obviously 5 gallon jugs will just be refilled with whatever drink that you may choose. I briefly looked into it, and people say that you cannot leave drinks in there long because mold will start to grow. I mean, flushing it out with hot water and or a cleaning solvent every once in awhile wouldn't be bad; but I don't want to have to keep doing that every few days... So, I suppose the drinks would have to contain low sugar to prevent mold growth? Long shelf life drinks would be a good idea... Btw, please don't suggest any sugar free alternatives like aspartame. I won't touch the stuff. however natural sugars like stevia are a-okay. So, do you have the answer that mankind has been longing for? Tl:dr 5 Gallon Jug + what drink = instant amazing cold drink. wat do?

3d modelling general, basic, and tips

3d modelling general, basic,... 111 posts and 6 image replies omitted. Click to view.
So do any of you model your parts here? if so what do you use? I just started learning both autoCAD and solidworks, and i've got to say, i like autoCAD waaaaayyyyyy more than solidworks. but according to "industry" solidworks is the way to go. which makes me sad :c, luckily solidworks can import autoCAD drawings so I might just do that. Is solidworks used more in industry? what is better out of the two? is there a way to show a grid like autocad has when you're drawing? anyway, what do you guys use, experiences, preferences, tips, etc. 3d modeling general. I know i could've taken this to /3/ but this is more in the engineering sense rather than the model/artistic sense. pic related, a bunch of shit i made in autocad.

Is there a way to tell if a bolt is coarse or fine? It's attached to something, so I can't bring it to the shop and try different nuts. Could I just buy both kinds of nuts and try at home?
