So this morning I woke up in... 15 posts and 0 image replies omitted. Click to view.
So this morning I woke up in my apartment surrounded by this electrical gas smell that made it pretty hard to breathe and almost had a hint of citrus and garlic bread/vinegar to it. I called HVAC and they said it wasn't gas because our building doesn't have gas, and they went around the room with some kind of machine to detect gas and said there was none, and none of the breakers or outlets felt hot. They aired out the room and had no idea what could be causing the smell, but everyone who checked it out said it smelled like death, and was coming from one room in the house that wasn't connected to any kind of heating or anything (my bedroom). Does anyone have experience with this kind of smell or what causes it? Also, if I were hallucinating would I feel sick or light headed or would it be normal with just the hallucination?

Hello /diy/, I want to make some semi professional looking cds to distribute my music. I want to print an image on the cd using silk screen printing, and since it's usually only done at home for printing on cards or t-shirts, I can't find any guides on how to do it with cds. Have any of you printed on plastic before, what were the results, what would be the best set up to achieve the clearest image? Please give me any tips or advice you have.

What should I do about this? The part at the very bottom is pretty much unreachable with a toilet brush. I've heard Coke is good for cleaning toilets-- can I just dump a 2 liter in there and wait? Pic attached; many thanks in advance.

Hey /diy/ I'm looking for a good source of flat springs in various shapes and lengths. I can take or leave pre-drilled mounting holes. For the most part the local hardware stores and the usual suspects online mostly carry coil springs. I could technically fabricate and HT them, but I'll need a few dozen and that's a pain in the butt. Any recommendations?

I saw the joule thief LED... 12 posts and 5 image replies omitted. Click to view.
I saw the joule thief LED marker thread and I remembered I had an LED stripe from a broken laptop I couldn't lit, I replicated the circuit and from 2 AA batteries I get a decent glow. The stripe has 24 LEDs in 3 series of 8, at ~120mA each series and ~20V to lit them, what its about 1W of power. The toroid is my biggest worry, I have 20 windings at each side and a quite large toroid, do small toroids work better or worse? How much affect the number of turns? Any clues on how to optimize this circuit so it can work nicely with 2AA batteries? A neat way to include a potentiometer so I can regulate the light intensity? I already have a potentiometer to the base but when the value gets too low the toroid buzzes, I was thinking about 1k resistance (its optimal value) and then a potentiometer to increase the resistance and hence reduce the brightness. If I power the joule thief with a 5V 2W DC source what should I do to avoid burning the LED's, just a resistance before connecting it to the toroid? Sorry if I sound annoying, just started with electronics and I find toroids fascinating. Thanks for your time. >Pic-related it's how it glows connected to the 2AA

Hi /diy/! How do I make something like pic related? Google search only brings up how to make the dimmable(lightness) part. I would like a real-life "photoshoppable" lightbulb switch. Thanks in advance

ITT: We show the quick shit we have done lately. I made this, it's shitty, but I made it using 2 fucking needles, cutter, nylon thread, cheap leather, a hammer and a clock screwdriver broken head. My first time doing something with my leather! I will make a proper one once I find were to get cheap leather work tools! I'm so exited to remake this one with the proper tools!

Dear /diy/ I've got a question about you. I got 4 pairs of shoes (pic related) but they all 4 have broken on the same place. I really like this type of shoe, I have weird feet and this makes me feel like i'm walking on air. However: all 4 of the right ones are broken in the back of the heel on the inside. I think it happens because I drive alot. No one else has this problem, and they all break down at the same place overtime for me. So it must be this. How can I fix it? I'm poor so i'm asking here. Do I cut it open and cut the hard part out what's cutting inside my heel and put some ducttape over it? Or are there better solitions? Thanks!

Diy noob here. Setting up a new desk. As per the instructions, I hammered in a 20mm wooden dowel in its allocated hole but the hole didn't stop and the bastard's gone too far. I tried hammering in a nail to pull it out/using plyers but now its just fucked up and broken. How can I remove it?

Is there a way to tell if a bolt is coarse or fine? It's attached to something, so I can't bring it to the shop and try different nuts. Could I just buy both kinds of nuts and try at home?

Hi /diy/, I recently bought a go pro and have all but a monopod for it. Now checking in stores they are about 1000zar (~100$). So I wanted to find out if anyone here would know how I could make my own. Pic related
