I've been spending the last month reading up on adhesives and trying out different things. What I want is an adhesive that's like the one on these guys hands and feet. More specifically, permanently fastened to one surface, but pressure sensitive tack that easily stick together and pull apart. Kind of like a weak magnet? Anyone know anything about any products that achieve this or what the magic google keyword for this is?

How do I fix electrostatic discharge on laptop connected to an LED monitor via VGA? I believe it is a grounding issue. When the monitor is plugged in, I feel tiny electric at the edge of my laptop. Not if I unplug it or put my foot on an insulator (clothes). Is this something to worry about if it is connected for too long? Will my laptop fry?

Hey /diy/, I've got a pretty simple question, but I can't seem to find anything. What I want to do is build a desk using pipes (pvc, maybe galvanized) as the supports. The complication is that I would love to just run it all the way through the desk top and into some shelves. Now, I'm not sure how to actually support the wood. Are there any attachments that could be used for this? Also, will the idea even work?

DIY Tube amps

So Ive been doing a bit of research on DIY tube amp's. Im not an electronics expert, but I know enough to read a schematic and build from it, and to follow instructions. Anyway i've got a few questions: 1:From what i read, a 15watt tube amp is somehow more powerful the a 15watt solid state amp, is it false? How is this possible, why is it? 2:Whats a good tube amp DIY kit that has at least two channels, and can plug into a decent half stack/cab?(ive been looking around and the information available on thevarious kits is shitty to poor) 3:For those of you who have built DIY tube amplifiers, is it worth it, and how was the experience?

Hey guys, I need some help from anyone who knows something about prosthetic make-up. I'm looking to get into making foam latex prosthetic for fx make-up, however, I'm missing a step. I've made a plaster mold of my friend's face using alginate. And taken molding clay and designed the mask I want. In a video I watched, they said to then put another layer of plaster along with plaster dipped burlap. After that they said to remove the second layer of plaster, and, into the negative you've just made, pour whatever material you want (foam latex, liquid latex, etc.) to get the mask you want. My question is, how do I keep the second layer of plaster from merging with the first layer that is the mold of the person's face?

Anything cool I can do with this little numpad I've been saving that wouldn't be too complex? Would it be a lot of work to get input from it with a microcontroller? sorry for potato pic

Student budget gym equipment

Student budget gym equipment 13 posts and 1 image replies omitted. Click to view.
Hello! Not quite sure if this is a /diy/ or a /fit/ post, but here goes: I would be interested in making some basic gym equipment as cheaply as possible. I plan to buy a benchpress bar (seeing as that probably is about as cheap as buying a plain rod and modifying it), and cast the weight plates in concrete by bacically pouring concrete in a bucket with a plastic pipe in the center. I also plan to cast some kettlebells, probably in large flower pots. I haven't yet decided whether to use thick rope or rebar rods for the handle. Also unsure of how to do final shape touch-up. Does anyone here have experience with this? Any hindsight experiences?

Fuck this gay earth, Im putting together, or at least trying to, all the information i can about shipping container. Costs, of modifying, buying, transporting etc. Why you fucking ask? because that way we can put it in the sticky website and point people in that direction and it will be over. So far im using prices from Home Depot, for drywall, studs etc. This is implying you put drywall in all the interior of the shipping container and insulation. What other materials? raw metal with rino liner? what about the floor? i have just considered OSB. For the roof drywall and insulation too, I want to create a full chart and spreadsheet of possible materials just to see how much it really costs to make a shipping container livable. Also if anyone know about solar power kits and more ideas that people usually ask for it would be great. Protip: the biggest expenses come from moving that thing around so far.

hello /diy/ you might remember me from my wood carvings of small animals after my fiancee and I broke up, it was labeled as one of the most depressing threads in /diy/, after a lot of you posted their own stories and how they were some of the reasons you got into your hobbies. while my situation hasn't changed, I drag myself to do stuff everyday, and recently i bought a fishing rod and reel, but being the total novice i was, i lost a piece that makes my spinning reel go up and down, i presume it lays in the bottom of south america's largest lake. i had few luck searching in local fishing shops, so I thought i could make it myself, except i dont remember what it looks like or what it's called. it's the circular piece that goes inside the reel and along with the spring sistem, makes the reel go up and down and make that click noise you hear when withdrawing your line. tl;dr >lost fishing reel piece that goes inside pic related >how to make one? >what it's called?

Hello, /diy/. I recently got myself a video camera and started filming random electronics related stuff I do in my spare time (mostly repairs and random blog-style videos about various electronic gear, mostly power electronics like power amplifiers, inverters and power supplies). I humbly ask that you check it out if it sounds interesting. It would be fun to have a little bit of an audience. Sincerely, https://youtube.com/user/FFcossag

WALKING STICK/CANES 22 posts and 7 image replies omitted. Click to view.
I've been considering creating some walking canes/sticks for a hobby and small business. After working in a hospital for over 2 years I noticed that the elderly mostly use the cheap aluminium poles which are tasteless! Where has the art of cane making gone? I live in Australia and there doesn't appear to be a notable maker of quality sticks. Who here has made their own walking apparatus? I don't want to see bush hiking dog shit sticks. We need classy and witty designs for the gentlemen of the future who wish to spend a little more. My plans: - Hardwood 1 or 2 pieces - Australian designs - Old pool cue bodies with white ball or 8 ball as a spherical handle - Stone spheres, also. What walking apparatus would you like to use when you need one? I'll post some pictures from 'Canes, Pipes & Walking Sticks' by Harry Ameredes.
