I want to install a sensor to my door, which when opened, will signal the pc and at the pc-side a macro will minimize/swap the foreground application. I have some programming ability but how would I signal the pc and make the pc identify it as a particular signal?

Hello /diy/ I want to make a device that can intercept signals (from radio, to walkie talkies, etc), I searched on google but im not sure if the projects I found are the ones I found. My idea was doing something with an Arduino or a Raspberry Pi. Any of you have a guide on how to make that or some sort of tips? And, if it is illegal, what are the chances of getting caught?

Could someone potentially build a house out of almonds? I've recently come into a lot of almonds, I can't eat them all and I feel there could be money made here.

I need to make a fibreglass battery box for my ebike. I have read that after fibreglass application some kind of filler is applied to smooth the surface. what is this filler called? I will be buying the fibreglass from a shop staffed by people whos only understanding of fibreglass is shittily patching smashed ricer body kits.

Blaupunkt

Hey guys, first time here on /diy/. I could use a help with my problem. I have radio pic related, specifically it's Blaupunkt Symphony skzaz9d (from Skoda Fabia car) and I want to connect mp3 player to it. I found that there exists a cable Blaupunkt 7 607 897 093 for it. I'd like to somehow make it without buying it. More info in next post with another pic.

I'm building a twin bed frame that is split into three parts. I'm building it in three parts because I'm taking it to college and want to be able to easily move it into my apartment. I can also take each individual part and make little benches/couches with them later if I wanted too. Here's a design of the two outer parts. I haven't modeled the inner part since the only difference is instead of larger the long 2x6, I use a 2x4 so its at level with the other edges. Thoughts/opinions? I already have some of it set up and will be working on it all tomorrow.

i've got a 4 ft x 2 ft piece of 3/8 thick steel plate with a ~1/4" bow in the middle. i want to flatten it so i can turn it into a welding table. i've already tried parking a car on it, which does straighten it out but not permanently. could i gouge out a ~3/16" deep channel with an angle grinder across the width and try parking the car over it again?

Hey, /diy/! I'm trying to make a tail that would move a bit and for that I need some kind of piece of machinery that would work on batteries and make half-circle motions, if you understand what I mean. Anyone know where I can get such a thing or something like that? I know I could go the Arduino route, but that stuff is too complicated for me. I also made an image of the tail but I don't expect anyone to understand it.

Hey /diy/ check out what i bought. I needed a trimmer for work, and being the contrary, gadget loving fool I am, I bought this Dewalt 900 Watt plunge router/trimmer combo thing instead of the half cost Makita laminate trimmer. >Pros: Powerful for a trimmer Versatile >Cons 6mm Collet only Probably a little heavy in trimmer mode May turn out to be a bit underpowered on hardwoods in router mode Did I fuck up? Its definitely cool, but I'll probably get laughed at at work for not going with the tried and tested Makita workhorse. >New Tool Thread Whats your most recent purchase, new or second hand, whatever.

DIY concrete lamp?

How would someone go about DIYing something like this? It's a concrete lamp. I saw another similar one that appeared to be some kind of fabric impregnated with concrete. Can I just soak some canvas in regular concrete and let it set? Does it need to be a special kind of fabric/concrete? I figured I could just get a lamp socket, make the shade, and that's about it, sounds simple.

Fix a crack

Fix a crack 32 posts and 0 image replies omitted. Click to view.
Got a ~100lb anvil recently, old as balls but with a steel plate so its better than cast ASOs. Problem s it has this crack running around the heel and I was wondering how to fix it or at least strengthen it. Local fabricators didn't know how to weld wrought iron and the traditional forge welding isn't a possibility on this scale. Anyone got ideas more outside the box?

Hello /diy/ I'm from the magical place of /k/ and I'm not sure if this belongs here and google brings up unsatisfying results. I've recently used 150 grit sandpaper softly to remove engraving on my revolver and now it obviously has scratch marks from this. It's stainless steel and I was curious, how do I smooth and polish it back to a near-mirror finish? I would post a picture of the areas in question but my cameras are shitty as fuck and all you'll see is the vague outline of a pistol

So, I collect records and my turntable doesn't have any kind of automatic tonearm lift, so I was thinking about making my own, because it seems like my only other option is a $60 product that only works when the tonearm reaches the end of a side. I was looking into using an Arduino with a wireless transmitter/receiver to create a kind of remote, with one Arduino used to send the signal from a simple button and another to receive it and have a small servo raise/lower the tonearm (I plan on having a curved bar near the beginning of the tonearm so I can lift it up at any point). I have some questions before I go about trying to make something though, because I don't have much experience with Arduino. What kind of Arduino board would I need? Would there be a better, simpler alternative? Would I need to use a breadboard (I don't want it to take up much space on my turntable)? It would be nice if I'm able to switch it off when I'm done to conserve power since I want it to run off batteries. Anyways, thanks in advance, let me know if you have any other advice or guides
