Acrylite Panel Holder

Hi /diy/ I'm making a hanging LED sign and using an acrylite panel with a laser etched design on the front as the illuminated bit. I plan on side illuminating it with an LED strip or some of the standalone LEDs I have laying around. My problem is I can't find a good bracket / mount for it anywhere. The dude who I got the idea for implied that he got his from a specific manufacturer but they are in Belgium and do not ship to America. This is the diagram he sent me, it is pretty simple. Anyone know where I can get something like this?

Sup /diy/, so here's the deal: I just got this broken Beats Pill from a friend because she said she has no idea what's wrong with it so I figured I'd take a look and if I fix it I get a free 200 dollar sound system for whatever the cost of fixing it is, but here's the catch, after disassembling it I found it to be in perfect condition, except for one thing, the Daughter PCB that has the micro USB port on it is fucking trashed, like, to high hell, I guess whoever had it before didnt care for actually trying to fix whatever their problem was, regardless, since I aint no circuit board vet I honestly dont know if there is anything I can do to fix it, Id hate to throw away potential here, any ideas? images attached are it This thread is a clone of the one I made in /g/, because I was told to come here

Hey /diy , This is my first post here. Longtime lurker, first time poster. I rent and the place came with a kitchen fridge. I don't have the cash right now to throw away on a new one (the landlord doesn't care about the appliances) but I figure maybe I can modify this one. Here is my problem. The fridge only goes down to about 36-39 degrees F. I want things on the top shelf to literally freeze. I have another fridge in the garage that goes down to 32 and is great. But I wish the one upstairs would get as cold. Is there anything I can do to modify the fridge to get it colder? It's an older model Amana fridge with freezer on the bottom. Probably 10 years old. Pic related.
I'm making a few prop... 26 posts and 1 image replies omitted. Click to view.
I'm making a few prop axes for a play and I can't for the life of me figure out the best way to cut the dowel haft to slot the blade. The director would like the axe head to slot into the dowel, but we don't have access to a proper shop, so my tools are basically a power drill, a dremel tool and whatever bits I can slot into these. I need to cut a half inch slot all the way through the dowel that goes in from one end about 8 inches. Has anyone here done something like this before? Google wasn't of much help.

Hey /diy/, So I just blocked out the sun from my room using a layer of printer paper(so that people don't think I'm doing something super sketchy in here) then a layer of foil. I'm hoping it will keep my room at least a bit cooler than it is and if not well I work a night shift anyway so my room will be black out during the day. Question: Am at at any risk for the paper to catch on fire? I'd rather not burn the place down cause I'm an idiot. See pic for a visualization. BTW the sun doesn't ever directly shine on the window except for the last couple hours of the day.

Question about a cracked screen and a water damaged screen. So ended up spilling some soda on my phone and now the touch screen doesnt work. Im also in possession of the same phone with a cracked screen but the touch screen still works. So Im wondering who I can cannibalize the phones to get a working one. As far as the phone I spilled soda on. Is it a circuited board issue or is the digitizer no longer usual? As far as the cracked screen. Since the touch screen still works does this mean that just the outerglass is cracked and if so could I just replace the outer glass?

Hey guys (I posted this on /g/ as well), My brother just bought a new laptop (y50)and asked if he could use one of my ssd's. I cloned his hdd for him using the enclosure I brought with me. He said he would install it himself while I went to go run some errands and ended up stripping one of the screw heads on the case of the laptop even though the screwdriver he used worked with the other ones. I have tried the rubber band trick, but it didn't work. Do you guys have any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Is there any legitimate way to earn money online? I'm sick of being broke and I need to buy new things. I've tried looking for a job in my area but it seems that nowhere is hiring at the moment.

I want to get into learning about electricity and wiring stuff and whatnot. I really like cool flashy looking lights and would like to line my room with them as opposed to using the normal white lights. I also think it would be good to learn as I would like to do some pyrotechnician work involving fireworks and I've been told this is a crucial skill to have. Any good books on the subject? I have a hardware store near me so I think I'm good on materials.

Transformer

Hey /diy/, I'm not familiar with transformers, and found this. I was wondering what this type of transformer could be used for... It also had a tag of h3240 on the chip.

X-acto and Olfa

Because this seems like the most likely place to get an answer. How compatible are Olfa and X-acto blades and handles? As in, can you fit an Olfa blade in an X-acto handle?

Here is more of the guys work, I have yet to get a response from him. Its a controller for ps3/360; however, I'm more concerned about the physical construction. Would I design in CAD and go to a plexiglass cutter? anybody tackled a similar type project? (i.e. plexiglass boxes, jewelry boxes, etc) Can I D.I.Y. it?

Power Supply Design

30 posts and 0 image replies omitted. Click to view.
Hey I need to design a 120vac to 9vdc power supply and I'm really just looking for any advice I could get. I know how to make one from a transformer and a bridge but I'm much more interested in transformerless designs. I've played with SMPS's before but honestly if i was going to build my own I wouldn't know what chip to buy. I need it to supply 9vdc at 50mA continuously. I'm probably going to have a 7809 and some caps at the output, so my main concern is stepping down that 120vac. I know this is pretty trivial considering its only gonna supply half a watt, but I'm a little inexperienced and I want it to last a long time. Any advice or directions on where to look would be greatly appreciated.

Flux Compression Generator

I wonder would it be possible for an individual to build their own one of these babies. I don't have some diabolical plot to EMP anyone, i'm just interested in being able to produce a massive amount of current at one time, Perhaps to drive a laser or a rail gun. I saw it works by physically destroying the coils, so i'm wondering if it works like a step-down transformer, and if this is the case could the effects be replicated using some form of semi-conductive transformer. So my questions are. How does it work? How could one build one? Could one build a reusable one? also sorry for being an idiot. i am sooo sorry.

This should be easy

Building a linear outdoor gas fireplace. Structure made of wood. Sheet metal between area where lava rock and gas pipes are and wood. Does this pose a significant problem? Scorching?
