Been looking into building my first 3D printer, mainly focusing on the prusa i3, but I'm trying to investigate other options as well. Anyone who recently built a printer? What did you build? Were there any issues? What was the final cost? Thanks /diy/

Hey guys, what should I turn? Just got three blanks to mess around with, the two small ones are sycamore and the larger one is basswood which I don't have a lot of experience with never really been inclined to turn basswood. I need ideas for what I should make put of these blanks!

Sup /diy/, This is a little odd for a topic here, but /g/ is of course useless ("not your personal tech support"), so. . . . I've been running my laptop off Knoppix from a USB flash drive. Occasionally the drive gets corrupted, which is a pain in the ass and usually requires booting from a CD and patching the two or three corrupted bytes. Tonight, however, I can't even get the computer to recognize the USB drive any more. It doesn't even show up as a device when it's plugged in, so I can't copy the data off or try to repair it. Any ideas? I'd really hate to lose the data.

I have this problem with my trusty old TI-83 SE. Is there something I could do to fix it? I have tried changing the main batteries and reseting the calculator but the problem persists.

Sup /DIY/ I'm trying to replace my brake lights on my truck. I bought the correct light but the old one is stuck in the socket. I have pulled as hard as I can and twisted. The bulb is broke and my fingers cut. But I need this done. Is there some other way to remove the bulb or an easy way to get it unstuck. Also my front blinker is out. I have bought and replaced it with a new one. This happened before the brake light went out. Would fixing the brake light fix the front blinker? Any more details needed ask and I'll try to explain better

Handmake Notebook Cooler

Hello /diy/, i need some help on my heat up issue. I have a 17.3" gaming notebook and i want to make a cooler pad for it by cheapest way. I got some like wires, used desktop fans and bigger fans, etc. (strongest fan is the one at picture, 12x12cm) There is some problems in my mind; - The material of the pad (i dont have much material and finding materials is pain in the ass for me since i'm living at suburban district) - The connection way of desktop fan and bigger fans (since they have diffrent power inputs) - Shall i put a switch on it? - How i can add a usb port output? Or just breaking my old 15" cooler pad into pieces and working on setup of it would be best way? Note: There is not any problem about notebooks heatsink or thermal paste. It's all about warnness and all day high CPU usage. And sorry for my bad english.

DC motors

I want to get started into the use of DC motors by using an Arduino. I eventually want to create a hand like this one : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t52edTD9RA0 Wood would be pretty expensive, so I would try using bike chains as the structure for the fingers. Im getting off topic, can anyone help me get started with DC motors? Any guide, where to buy them, info, anything would be very helpful. >pic isnt mine

Mood lighting a Bed

Sup /diy/nosaurs. I am working on a small project at the moment and I have hit a snag. I am moodlighting my bed, think along the lines of the attached picture. So what I have so far is a set of LED strips that are going to go around the frame (on the inside under the mattress) and up behind the head board. They are going to be colour adjustable; think along the lines of a NZXT HUE system..perhaps even modes, such as gently fade through the colors and such. But I want to this to be sort of a night-light kinda thing. So it stays on for 5mins after we go to bed, and if I get up in the middle of the night it will gently brighten to light the room slightly. How would you go about doing this? I was thinking weight sensors under the mattress..but it seems like it would be unreliable. Thoughts?

So I have this weight distribution hitch that my mother received when she bought a new camper. We're trying to raise the height on the hitch so the camper will ride better (ie higher off the ground). The problem is that the bolts that hold the hitch together are seized tight. We have tried WD40, our air ratchet, and a few hammers. No give. Should I go buy some higher quality penetrating liquid or get professional help? Last option is buying a metal-cutting blade for the reciprocating saw. pic related

Buying Window AC for Swamp-cooled Unit

10 posts and 0 image replies omitted. Click to view.
I just moved into a unit of about 750sq. ft. and a 150 sq. ft bedroom with a swamp cooler (central valley, Ca). The best I see to be getting out of the swamp cooler is low 80s most days From what I can tell I'd need a 20k+ BTU AC to cool the whole apartment, I'm curious though, if I could get away with using a smaller AC unit if the house is already being cooled by the swamp cooler. If not, at the very least Id get a small window AC for the bedroom.

Sup guys, I have a little under 1 1/2 pounds of uranium ore and I'm wondering how I could most easily crush the single rock into a fine powder for further use, without having to invest in a mill or similar expensive equipment.
