So thought I would run an idea past you guys. So right now I live in a shed to save on money for schooling but I kind of want to rebuild it since the person who built this did a shit job. The wiring started a small fire and so I run an extension cord now and there are leaks everywhere I had to patch up. Also it wasn't leveled at all and was built right on the ground. Anyhow for the new shed it will be 10 x 10 x 14 ( Largest I can make it with out having to get a building permit ) and will be a flat roof shed (Will have a tiny incline for rain ). I was wondering how much support a roof like that would need if it snowed up to 2 feet before I could shovel it off. Also does anyone know a good insulation that's thin since it gets down to -40 degrees where I live in winter.

I have a big empty glass aquarium that is out of service because the edges can't hold the water pressure anymore. The size is 100 x 50 x 60 cm. Any ideas what should I do with it? I was thinking maybe a snake den, or a terrarium. I don't want anything with roaches, or anything that needs too much care. No rodents too , already have them.

Been chugging along on a new fixer-upper home built in the 50s. So these CHEAP PLASTIC TILES are falling off the shower wall by the faucet. I pried off ALL the tiles that easily come off. I filled the holes and broken rocks with joint compound. Now it's sturdier. How do I put the tiles back on? I can't just use tile adhesive, right? Shouldn't I paint it with some waterproof stuff? Please help me, /diy/ ^_^

What's the best way to prevent moisture from getting in and ruining one of these outside lamps? They're made cheap as fuck and the sensors and shit keep going out due to moisture. If it's advertised as an outdoor light, the shit should work for more than 2 - 3 years. I'm going to remedy it myself by modifying it, though, so no more money gets sent to the makers of garbage products. I was thinking maybe seal the insides and shit in a big block of epoxy or something? Would this be a fire hazard if electricity started going through the epoxy somehow?

Hey /diy/ Sorry if this is for the wrong board. I have a Pz. I tank model I want to build but it is my first time making a model. Do I build the entire model before painting? And how would I make the paint look more realistic then just one coat of paint. Thanks in advance.

Hello /diy/kes, i have an issue regarding a DIY project. So here is my problem. I made an impregnation for my canvas backpack with 2 parts beeswax and 1 part boiled linseed oil. I melted it and painted it on one of the pockets on the backpack, and then i used a heatgun to melt it into the fabric. So it melted in pretty good and i left it to dry for a few days, but it has started to stink really bad from where the mixture was applied. I tried to use some terpentine on the pocket to desolve some of the linseed oil. It seems like it did not do much to remove the smell.. Please /diy/, i cant stand the smell, do you have any idea of how i could get either the smell or the entire impregnation from the backpack. pic unrelated

So, /diy/ers, my boss has a slot car track at his house. When we race on it there is a voltage spike anytime someone gets off the power to their car, causing the other car to get a power surge which can cause it to go off the track. I was wondering if any of you might have any ideas on how to easily reduce or eliminate this slight voltage spike.

So anyway, I collect antique bottles and need a way to display my Hamiltons and cylinder bottles. At the moment, they're just held in place with Blu Tac which does the job but isn't aesthetically pleasing. The best thing I've found is these acrylic stands and I may end up getting some but I thought that I'd try and post here to see if anyone has any other practical ideas that might work. I'm open to any suggestions but bear in mind the shape of these bottles was designed so that they had to be stored on their side so they're impossible to stand erect on their own.

How hard would it be to put together a system where you could power AC off of deep cell batteries? What you would need to be able to do that for about 8 continuous hours?

First of all, this isn't my laptop. I googled this image. I need a way to keep my laptop cord in the port. It's really loose and slides out when I move the laptop, and it's killed my batteries, I've gone through a couple because of it. What's a good way to rig up a more secure connection? Other than tape that I'll have to re-apply over and over. I was thinking a hook and hoop sort of system, or maybe velcro. Throughts?

Hey /diy/. I have no experience in building stuff but I want to build a loft bed. I don't own any tools aside from a battery drill, a hammer drill and the usual bunch of screw drivers and bits. I'm sure I'll need to buy some tools accessories to get the job done, but the options are so vast. pic related is my rough sketch of the finished bed. It's just a scribble of the initial idea. I'm currently working on more sophisticated and accurate concept drawings but this will do for now. The bed is going to be 200x180 cm and I wanted to leave some room surrounding the mattresses for easier maintenance. The bed must be a rock solid construction because the walls in my apartment are shit and I am a tall and heavy dude (110 kg). Maybe you got some tips for me on this. Thanks in advance. :)

Been looking into building my first 3D printer, mainly focusing on the prusa i3, but I'm trying to investigate other options as well. Anyone who recently built a printer? What did you build? Were there any issues? What was the final cost? Thanks /diy/

Sup /diy/, This is a little odd for a topic here, but /g/ is of course useless ("not your personal tech support"), so. . . . I've been running my laptop off Knoppix from a USB flash drive. Occasionally the drive gets corrupted, which is a pain in the ass and usually requires booting from a CD and patching the two or three corrupted bytes. Tonight, however, I can't even get the computer to recognize the USB drive any more. It doesn't even show up as a device when it's plugged in, so I can't copy the data off or try to repair it. Any ideas? I'd really hate to lose the data.
