Using Zentyal as Gateway

3 posts and 0 image replies omitted. Click to view.
I'm trying to set up a server running zentyal as a central base for my home network, but I'm running into a few problems. My network topology is as follows: [Netcomm modem/router]--[Zentyal box]--[Dlink wireless router] I followed this guide to help set it up (sans backup external connection): http://www.howtoforge.com/zentyal-as-a-gateway-the-perfect-setup I can't get access to the internet from any machine at all, I know it's probably some basic networking error but I can't figure it out, how do I get this to work? The connection itself is fine, plugging the cable from the netcomm in gives internet connection, and Zentyal is assigning addresses through the dlink (my android phone can connect but can't access internet) but I can't access the internet from the phone or the server itself. Any ideas on what's going wrong?

Help a poor n00b, /g/. I'm sick of Windows. I just installed Fedora to a usb stick, and I ran it. I like the look and feel of the OS and am heavily considering installing it to my hard drive. The problem is, when I boot Fedora, I don't have internet connection and my broadband connection doesn't even show up in the Networks menu. Any ideas?

Quick Python Question lets have two dictionaries both have the same two keys which correspond to arrays of strings dick = {z:['a','b','c'], w:['o','p','r']} pric = {z:['k','l','m'], w:['h','g','f']} how do I merge this in to single dict? result = {z:['a','b','c','k','l','m'], w:['o','p','r','h','g','f']} do I just iterate over one and ad values to relevant keys? or is there some build in method for this?

I'm a student in the UK about to go to university (next year... I'm 18) and would like to know what the best course for me would be. I have been looking at CE and CS but am not sure which I should go for. A bit of what I have done and do: >Learning how to build a CPU with TTL (FPGA will be next) >Building software with C and ASM x86 (learn't on my own) >Managing a personal *NIX server running my own software >Building a game with SDL (someone asked me to help them, ended up enjoying it) >Have used Arduino, RPi, Beaglebone with Arduino being the most enjoyable >Have used Ubuntu, Linux Mint, ArchLinux, Gentoo, MikeOS, Debian, OpenBSD (in order... currently using OpenBSD) >Learning how to use bash and zsh (even if I mostly use CLi) >Learning Calculus on my own I'm also looking for a laptop with the following: >portable >mate screen >no mouse pad >x86, MIPS, or ARM >6h+ battery >OpenBSD compatible (if GNU/Linux works OpenBSD will) >Good keyboard (like the thinkpad or C29 toughbook... I will be using it a lot) And books would be nice... what I currently have: >C programming a modern approach - K.N King >Assembly language step by step - Jeff Duntemann >Understanding and using C pointers - O,Reilly >PC assembly language - Paul A Carter >Understanding digital computers - Forrest Mims >Understanding computer electronics - Albert Paul Malvino Please ask if you would like more information. btw what happened to the guy who was developing his own CPU?

Linux Mint 17 Footprint

Which Linux Mint installation (Cinnamon, MATE, KDE, etc) has the smallest footprint in RAM? I have a Dell Latitude D620 that I'm moving off of WinXP and onto Linux and I need a stable, reliable release for someone who is not technologically adept. I won't have the laptop until tomorrow so I'm not sure how much RAM it has installed but 1GB seems to have been the default option so I'll assume that. The Cinnamon desktop takes ~268MB according to a review I just read, so I'll assume that's the heaviest footprint of the lot.

So I've never built a PC before, but I'm planning on building one that do everything decently (plenty of storage for media, some light editing, casual vidya when I have the time) I'm aware that I should be looking at mid range i5's and something like a GTX 760, but I've also learned that there's new stuff being released this September. I can wait, but unless current components go down in price there's really not a reason to. What do you guys think?
