Are there any apps/programs with an interface similar to Ubuntu for Android? I'm looking for something that lets you dock your phone to a computer and be able to use the apps on your phone through the computer's OS, but with a different interface. I've seen AirDroid, but I don't think it lets you connect through USB. Main reason is having a bigger screen with mouse and keyboard control for office apps and the ability to use the phone's data for web browsing without digging into the tethering data. Social Media General

IT'S THAT TIME AGAIN! I thought I would wait a day before I made my general again. Here in this shitty thread we talk about the do's and don'ts of Social media. Sure Social media has been around for a few years but still, it's not like we don't use it at this point. If you want more followers or something, go ahead and post this time. Implying /g/'s thoughts: >Facebook has too many rules for the site, they don't care about what you think and only care about their money. If they did care they would allow you to almost anything that was legal on the internet. Too many teenagers on there making pages and thinking they are funny. They don't. I don't care about how many pictures someone takes. someone should only take a picture when something is important. >Twitter was fun, but when you follow 40 people at once, you get annoyed by random retweets by people you follow and next thing you know, you are following 50+ people you know nothing about and can't catch up on anything going on. It's cool to see what some celebrity's are doing but it's too stupid and over populated with idiots. >Tumblr is good for a few things; Teenage girls, a diary, porn, and sometimes all 3! It got old fast because I do not see the point in letting everyone know what I'm doing at the same time. Just like Facebook and tumblr. >I have friends. They know how to get a hold of me. I have a steam, a gmail/email and other small chatting things I talk to them. They need me, they can text me or call me. Why else do I have a cell phone/tablet for? Other than that, I am fine with out having friends on social media. I honestly like being alone and not having to deal with everyone elses shit all the time and getting made and raging all over a status about Obama and shit. I don't care and I don't need the mental strain. >Implying TL;DR Why do you no like social media? (anymore. don't like you used Myspace.)

I've just read an article about write amplification. So i wonder if those 0.1 tb used could be actually 10x more. Will my SSD last for more 2 years?

Do you use any form of social media? Facebook here because norms use it. I do not like it and im sure you don't. Anyway, I was thinking of making a site a bit like 4chan so each friend would be a board, things people post would be deleted auto like 4chan, stickys could be events etc. What would you like out of a social media website? >friends

WTF HAPPENED TO TECHNOLOGY WEBSITES?

They used to have cool technology articles but nowadays it's a bunch of capitalist propaganda and cheerleading wars and shit. They used to have articles like this: http://www.engadget.com/2005/11/15/how-to-build-a-wifi-biquad-dish-antenna/

Just how bad do AMD chips lag behind Intel these days? I'm in the planning stages of a $700-$800 gaming build that I'll be throwing together a few months from now and was considering the FX-8320, but should I just save up a little more and get an Intel chip or are the differences not that significant? Even though this is a mid tier build I don't want to regret getting anything too underpowered in comparison.

Qubes OS

What makes Qubes more secure than, say, VirtualBox or some VM? I mean secure as in the ability for good malware to jump to the host machine or other VM compartments, etc. Also, Qubes general.

Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection is dead but there are unofficial servers on the works. For this purpose, I'm looking for a relatively cheap Wi-Fi dongle that's good since the DS is limited to WEP. I already own a flashcart so patching ROMs and/or generating Action Replay cheat codes to bypass HTTPS in RAM is not an issue for me. Any suggestions, /g/?

Why are people still so hung up on being able to have massive amounts of local storage? These days, it's feasible to have a relatively inexpensive home server box on your LAN. Home servers are more than just an alternative, they're an improvement. It's simply a better idea, for many reasons, including: 1. Stability. Instead of relying on a Windows install to hold up and allow you to access files, you can install whatever Linux distro you want on your home server, to manage your files. You can still play all the Windows games you want, and still have all your files stored on an ext4 filesystem. 2. Compatibility. Windows only likes to play nice with other Windows machines. A Linux (or even a FreeNAS, really) install plays nice with just about everything. 3. You can turn off your desktop PC. You don't have to depend on your desktop PC to be on in order to access your files anymore, nor do you have to leave your desktop PC on to seed torrents. Instead, you can have a low-wattage Linux-based server handling those things (and much more, at your discretion) for you. 4. It opens up a whole slew of new computing options for you. It doesn't matter whether you're using an all-in-one, a nettop, or a tablet. You still have access to the same amount of storage capacity when you're at home. 5. Noise. You'll naturally experience drastically less hard drive and fan noise when all of your hard drives are in a closet down the hall. 6. Scalability. When you fill the six SATA ports in your desktop, you either shell out for an expensive and/or dodgy SATA card, or buy unsightly external drives, or you're done expanding. When you fill the six SATA ports in your home server, you simply set up a second server box and stack it on top of the first one. Home servers are the elegant file storage solution of the 21st century. Rest in peace, local storage. Pic related: It's the Fractal Node 304, a Mini-ITX case that can hold six 3.5" drives. ~24 TB, the size of a large toaster.
