That's it /gd/, My first book diagramation. 150 text pages + images. I want to apply grid and golden ratio. But I need some tips. First of all, I don't know how to pick a page size. Definitely not A4, but I don't know any other aspects that would fit a good grid.

Hi /gd/ so I got my first design job and I'm already frustrated. How do you deal with very limited room for creativity and a terrible boss? I've been doing projects already and all of it turns into really generic crap. I'm ashamed of it and wouldn't even put on a portfolio but my boss has been happy with it. Now I'm in a position at my company to create a corporate identity. It's a smaller company of about 60-70 people with 1 person on marketing and now me as the primary designer. The problem is the CEO does not want to change anything and is very cheap. He wants consistency, which I agree with but past material has been very inconsistent. So basically he wants me to choose a new font for all the company material, which has to be a free one such as Arial (a lot of material uses this) or some other god awful free font. Did I mention he's very cheap? All I am provided is PS. Pretty sure purchasing a typeface is out of the question. He's also very very bad at communicating what he wants due to poor english. All the previous material is a cluster fuck of random things done in Word or poorly designed in PS, which was created by my soon to be supervisor. I feel grateful for having the opportunity but also depressed that I will be churning out more garbage just to appease the CEO. He loves to micromanage and acts like a tyrant. How would you deal with this?
Alright so you need a degree... 1 posts and 1 image replies omitted. Click to view.
Alright so you need a degree to work for most companies yet you can learn everything you need to know on YouTube. Therefore I propose that some organization introduce a nationally recognized graphic design qualification that you can study for in your own time. University is just a complete waste of money with all the wealth of information available at your fingertips today. In the space of a few weeks I have gone from knowing fuck all about 3D design to being able to make basic edits and additions on Autodesk Meshmixer all with YouTube and other internet resources. Even if you think I'm jumping the gun here Even a guy I know who has a degree in something graphic design related says it was a waste of money because everything he learned he already knew from YouTube.

TouchDraw - export issues

TouchDraw - export issues 4 posts and 2 image replies omitted. Click to view.
I have a big problem with TouchDraw for Android. Whenever i try to export something to .SVG, i get a corrupted/useless file. It is very annoying issue, because i must save it in SVG in order to edit in another software, since t2d is only compatible with TouchDraw. Here are examples of drawing in both formats: -Native T2D http://pastebin.com/UmN1RjMW -Exported SVG http://pastebin.com/X1NbjFcd Pic related shows correct PNG render Any suggestions, /gd/?

I've been thinking. Is there any site that let's you watch livestreams for designers? Kinda like Twitch, Twitch is a really great site but it's gamers only. I can probably learn a lot from watching designers work. Does anyone know of any streams?

So I've been trying to build out a site for a friend, and they want this type of gallery layout with the dimensional ratios from pic related. I've tried several approaches, but just can't seem to get it to work correctly. I always end up with ragged bottom alignment, or other problems. Any web guys have some recommendations?

I have a trial version of Adobe Illustrator, and recently I watched this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OyPRYoQbtp8 Around 1:20 he starts...blending? I don't know the term, but he makes the shading more of a gradient using the brush tool. I don't know how to do that, and no one in the comments section even responded, so I'm asking here. What did he do in AI to do that to the shadows?
Hey /gd/ this is my first post... 3 posts and 0 image replies omitted. Click to view.
Hey /gd/ this is my first post on this board, I usually spend my time on /wg/, but I am starting my graphic design courses next August and was wondering what to expect. So is it cool if I ask a few questions? 1. I understand graphic design is used for logos and shit like that, which, by looking around on this board is mostly vector based. But is it "acceptable" to do art with other mediums? Pic related: It's a wallpaper I had made in blender. Would it be weird to use 3d art in the terms of graphic design? 2. As part of the curriculum for my school, I need to take a few drawing courses. For those of you who went to school, do these actually help you in your process or style? 3. I am planning on learning some coding as well, probably java. Obviously learning to code is a good way to help get a job in the field, so is there any particular languages that can I can learn that will be beneficial to design? I guess that's it for now, I don't want to add a whole bunch of questions. Thanks in advance.
