I've been thinking. Is there any site that let's you watch livestreams for designers? Kinda like Twitch, Twitch is a really great site but it's gamers only. I can probably learn a lot from watching designers work. Does anyone know of any streams?

I have a trial version of Adobe Illustrator, and recently I watched this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OyPRYoQbtp8 Around 1:20 he starts...blending? I don't know the term, but he makes the shading more of a gradient using the brush tool. I don't know how to do that, and no one in the comments section even responded, so I'm asking here. What did he do in AI to do that to the shadows?

Hey /gd/ this is my first post on this board, I usually spend my time on /wg/, but I am starting my graphic design courses next August and was wondering what to expect. So is it cool if I ask a few questions? 1. I understand graphic design is used for logos and shit like that, which, by looking around on this board is mostly vector based. But is it "acceptable" to do art with other mediums? Pic related: It's a wallpaper I had made in blender. Would it be weird to use 3d art in the terms of graphic design? 2. As part of the curriculum for my school, I need to take a few drawing courses. For those of you who went to school, do these actually help you in your process or style? 3. I am planning on learning some coding as well, probably java. Obviously learning to code is a good way to help get a job in the field, so is there any particular languages that can I can learn that will be beneficial to design? I guess that's it for now, I don't want to add a whole bunch of questions. Thanks in advance.

App Icon

Hey /gd/, I'm working on a calculator app similar to Soulver (if you've seen that). I need an app icon. I've come up with this. I'm basically trying to avoid having it look like every other calculator app, which all have either a calculator, four buttons, or a square root of something. I feel this still gets the message across whilst being slightly different. Thoughts?

I'm making some fake currency for a friend's game. Circled in green on the picture, what is that style of linework called? And does anyone know the most effective, cleanest, and most efficient way to imitate that style? (tutorials, actions, or brushes)

Hello my name is Luc Nagel and I am very famous graphic designer from the Netherlands. I'll post some of my work here and I'll be answering all your questions and feel free to post your own work so I can give advice. DJ'ing is just a hobby of mine, although I am pretty solid.

Precise Vectors in PS

My problem is as follows: I need to do some vectorized templates, which have to be as accurate as possible and be printed without size distortions. I know Corel Draw or Illustratior would be better for this, but I only have access to PS at the moment. Are there any best practices or tips you guys have to share? Because I don't really think I'll be able to get this as clean as I have to with PS. I'm also more used to working with pixels, i.e. painting stuff instead of working with vectorized graphics so maybe it's just due to my ignorance, but PS seem to be really awkward for working with vectors.

from marketing team + CEO, at 4:30pm. "HEY, make a map with 20 bars in (City goes here) that we can print on A4 with a description of each place and on the back tons of bullshit about our company for the world cup, because the world cup is starting tomorrow! Have it ready for print tomorrow EOB!" me - "I need your copy, the map (vector would be nice), the names and descriptions of the places" Marketing & CEO - "OH YEAH LOL WE DON'T HAVE THAT YET" me - "I'll start laying out with dummy text" this is my day job, and I have a folder structure for print projects like this where my team can dump in all their copy and images. me - "ok guys the project folder is set up under (folder name here). Waiting for your stuff! :)" CEO sends me copy as a jpg. Marketing sends me a google doc They have no map.

When you are sending your PDF to a company - how big is too big? Dont want to annoy anyone with excessively big file, but then again lower weight means more compression for artwork. Under 10 mb? Under 5? Whats the standard?
