Considering building a 1911

Not trying to build a super-custom safe queen, just a .45 to use as a range loaner. I occasionally take people to a local range to try out my guns, and I've been spreading my collection wide across various types of firearms, and now I wanted to go a bit deeper, getting multiple calibers of firearms for each type. Just showing people that not everything is a wrist-breaking hand cannon. Anywho, I just wanted to start with a frame, so I would be "forced" to finish it, rather than letting a bunch of miscellaneous parts wind up sitting in a box for years. Any recommendations on where to start, if not the site where this image had come from? None of the reviews of this Rock Island frame stated that the resulting pistols had been run through the wringer, and I know shittier frames have fitting and cracking issues. Thanks much, and I know that an alcoholiday morning is not the best time to ask.

Which branch?

Hey /k/, I know these threads happen a lot, but I wanted to turn to those of you with military experience for advice. I am currently in college, and was intending on going officer when I get out, but I am unsure of which branch. I have talked to all the recruiters, read up on the different branches, and want a push toward one branch over the other. Here are my specifics. >International Studies Major with German/Spanish >Got a 98 on my ASVAB >128 on DLAB >Good grades/fast learner >6'4" - 200lbs - average shape >I tried the USMC before, but broke my legs in boot If I got to pick an MOS it would go 1) Pilot 2) Armorer 3) Foreign Area Officer 4) Infantry

Does anyone else see gun dealers who sell certain guns to "law enforcement only" (in ban states, new yorker here) as shills profiting off of slapping civilian gun owners in the face? I saw whole tables of ar's and ak'S and other salty rifles with a sign that said that and it triggered my civilian privilege pretty badly

So should I buy a $180 mosin or a $220 yugo Mauser? Poorfag looking to expand my collection and have a cheap plinking/rifle to kill Durr with. I'd use my savage as a cheap plinking rifle, but yesterday was the first day I've seen .22lr since fucking thanksgiving $7.50 after tax for a 50 round brick of CCI stingers) and it was $25 for a brick of federal. Otherwise for a shotgun I'm looking at a Maverick 88 or a used Mossberg. 28" barrel 12 gauge models for killin' birds and shit.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/asia/northkorea/10808719/China-plans-for-North-Korean-regime-collapse-leaked.html It's over. China has drawn up detailed contingency plans for the collapse of the North Korean government, suggesting that Beijing has little faith in the longevity of Kim Jong-un’s regime. Documents drawn up by planners from China’s People’s Liberation Army that were leaked to Japanese media include proposals for detaining key North Korean leaders and the creation of refugee camps on the Chinese side of the frontier in the event of an outbreak of civil unrest in the secretive state. The report calls for stepping up monitoring of China’s 879-mile border with North Korea. Any senior North Korean military or political leaders who could be the target of either rival factions or another “military power,” thought to be a reference to the United States, should be given protection, the documents state. According to Kyodo News, the Chinese report says key North Korean leaders should be detained in special camps where they can be monitored, but also prevented from directing further military operations or taking part in actions that could be damaging to China’s national interest.

Anyone have any experience with the Haley Strategic D3? How do ya like it? One thing I am particularly curious about is how handguns fit in it. Am I to understand that there is a holster that fits directly into that pouch in which the Glock is riding in in pic related? Because personally I can't stand the thought of handguns just riding in any old pouch on a chest rig; you do see it occasionally and I always gag internally. Also is Haley doing his own thing or designing for G-Code? Or both? I am planning on getting an AR and chest rig in the next month, I want good quality shit. For a Chest Rig I am looking at the Blue Force Splitminus (currently first choice), UW Gear Bandoleer or Minuteman, the Haley D3, the BCM 03 rig, and a few other ones. Right now the Blue Force Splitminus interests me the most but I do like the all-in-one nature of the D3 and it does seem to have everything you need as it was designed by a guy who has been carrying gear for a large percentage of his life so it look like he knows what he is doing and what is smart to carry and how. I like how it seems to seamlessly integrate a handgun and two spare mags into the relatively small chest rig where to get a handgun and two mags on another chest rig would add some bulk, seemingly relatively more than how the D3 accomplishes it. I don;t know what I mean here, basically adding a handgun and two mags to another chest rig makes it look really bulky and unbalanced while with the D3 it looks like it was really designed for it (because, well, it was..derrrrr). Also tac gear general. Anything goes as long as it get us gear queers all hot and bothered.

Has anyone gone through the trouble of getting an SBR, suppressor, or assembling a two stamp rifle only to decide it really wasn't worth the extra money, wait, paper work, and legal restrictions in the long run? I really would love an SBR and a suppressor but I don't have a ton of interest to go through the effort of getting them. I don't want my local police to think I am a gun nut nor do I want to write and ask the ATF for permission if I want to take my rifle 20 minutes away from my house that just happens to cross a state line. I think of why I want these things and yeah, less noise and a more handy rifle seems awesome but that is a shit load of effort just for those two features. Is it worth it? There of course is the cool factor but...still I don't know. What do you guys think? How much more sick is a two stamp AR than just a regular 16" midlegnth with an A2 flashider?

With 5.54x39 in jeopardy now ,what will be the conversation rate for said round. I've invested deeply in 7.62x39 /223/ 7.62x54r/ 7.62x51 yet if I find a load of fives I might be inclined to nab some even with no ak74. Maybe I can trade for a meat pie.

Hey /k/, Broke ass high school senior here (inb4 underageb&) I'm paying my own way through college and am considering listening to the school recruiter and joining the reserves as an MP. It sounds like a half-deent deal for the pay, but I was wondering if anyone here took a similar career path or had any advice/ experience. (Pic Unrelated)
