For all around defense, SHTF, recreation, and spending money on accessories you don't need, the AR platform is excellent all around. However, what else is a good option, especially on a budget? AK's and similar can be had quite a bit cheaper than most AR's, but can fall short in accuracy. FAL's and the like are cool, but are expensive and have variance in quality. M1A's aren't bad, but expensive. I'm sure there are lots of oddballs (and even not so oddballs) that I'm missing, so let's talk about this shit. So.. >5.56 vs bigger >Importance of accuracy >Price >Availability Picture possibly related.

Haven't seen an innawoods creepypasta thread in a while. Starting off with one that's related to some shit that went down at work today. >Now have a job, working in the U.S. Forest service in Oregon. >Be out today, basically getting to know the lay of the land. >Out looking for a spring that didn't get put on any of the newer maps because no one wanted to go survey the fucker and rebuild the springbox in the 80s. >With three others. We've driven up what is more or less a cow trail (marked as a road on the map, also the older maps show the spring at the end of the road) as far as the 4x4 can take us. >now hiking up what is now classified as a deer trail. >reach an old landing from a logging operation a few years ago. >I step off behind a tree to go take a piss. >other three go one without me. >can hear them for a while, then fucking silence except for birds. >Well...fuck. >start hiking up the trail figure they can't be too far ahead of me. >Find split in the trail, start up the more well worn path figuring they'd gone that way. >can now hear knocking, kinda like someone tapping a wooden cowbell. Stop and look around, it's slow and methodical, kinda calming. >Can still hear the birds, figure it's two deer fighting or something. >keep going down this trail, knocking still happening, birds still chirping. Then all of a sudden silence, wind dies and the rain comes to a complete stop. >The knocking is rather rapid. >Clouds cover up the sun, and this area of the forest just gets spooky dark and something just feels wrong. >Take a couple steps forward knocking picks up tempo and is as fast as a wicked drum solo. >I back off, and away warily looking around back to the old landing. >knocking has returned to its calmer slower tapping. >Birds chirp, rain falls, wind picks up. Can hear the other foresters again coming back. >Apparently the springs were along the deertrail and not the cowtrail I'd gone down. [c]

Ameritards comfirmed for absolutely fucking stupid. The US military recieved a T6 Texan Trainer that server during WW2 and they scrapped it on the spot. Fuck you, whoever decided to do this shit, with a fucking cactus covered in acid and salt.

Well, /k/. I did it. I bought a ring for my girlfriend, soon to be fiance. We've been together three years now, and I've got her hooked on collecting and shooting firearms. Anyway, back on topic- I'm asking for a single action revolver for an engagement present- what's a good one in the ~$700 range? I'm thinking of pic related a convertible Ruger Blackhawk in .357 mag with the 9mm cylinder. 6.5 inch barrel of course. What do you guys think?

Has anyone given any thought to hiding themselves from thermals/electronic jammers? I realize we can easily get too sci-fi here, but I'm not bringing up clothing that essentially acts as active-camo (in its infancy) a la Ghost in the Shell. Realistic/inexpensive ideas that go behind patterns on clothing ITT.

Take a moment to educate yourselves about ISIS

Take a moment to educate... 347 posts and 0 image replies omitted. Click to view.
What is ISIS: Islamic State in Iraq and Sham (Greater Syria/Levant) defines its ultimate aim in its name - Iraq and Sham. In its eyes, there's one territory which includes Iraq, Kuwait, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan and Israel, but doesn't include Sinai and ?skenderun because those areas belong to other Al Qaeda/Al Qaeda offshoot organizations (Like Al Qaeda in Northern Africa). General information: ISIS has 10,000-15,000 core fighters, and it is currently the RICHEST terrorist group in the world. The International Business Times says ISIS is now worth $2 billion ($200,000 for each fighter on average), making it wealthier than small countries such as Tonga, Kiribati, the Marshall Islands or the Falkland Islands. Their idea is to erase the "Western borders" (which were drawn 100 years ago by Britain and France) and restore the single Sunni state (Caliphate with Sharia laws in its most extreme form). This means the current Arab nationalism will be undone. Up to this point, one border is already gone - the one between Syria and Iraq. ISIS, along with other Sunni tribes, controls an area as big as Alabama which stretches from Baghdad (almost) to the Golan heights and the Turkish border. Militia can move freely from Syria and fight in Iraq and vice versa. They captured American weapons and vehicles, including dozens of Humvees, tanks, helicopters, MANPADs and anti tank missles. They started working with Al-Qaeda in the past, but quit after they didn't follow its strategic orders. ISIS is responsible for HUNDREDS of attacks in the last few years in Iraq and Syria.

Shotguns: Velcro Cards vs. Side Saddles

Shotguns: Velcro Cards vs.... 17 posts and 1 image replies omitted. Click to view.
What's /k/'s preferred method of carrying extra shells on the side of their shotgun? I know Velcro backed cards are getting popular, but I've seen a lot of complaints that the elastic wears out quickly and the shells fall out while shooting. But, slapping a new card on the side is a lot faster than putting new shells in a polymer saddle. Also, cards seem to fit perfectly in AR pouches making storing extra shots much easier than simply dumping loose rounds in a pocket or something. Which do you guys prefer?

Good evening /k/. Today, near Paris, France, I went to the Eurosatory, a very large trade show mainly about defense/military hardware. You can get in if you're part of a military force (regular/PMC), if you're part of the french (or other) government, or if you work in this sector. I'll upload pics as fast as I can. 1/?
