What's it like if you're a firearms enthusiast in the military? Sure you have your issued weapons and have to qualify with them but what's life like if you want to be a collector? I've heard you have to store your firearms in the armory. How much time/money is there to spare for range time? Can you use your own weapons? Do you have to comply with shitty state laws like if you end up with commiefornia or a duty station overseas? What's the firearms community like in your service?

sup /k/, For purely scientific reasons, could one safely (safe for the passengers at least) mount 105mm artillery as door guns for a Chinook? Also, general helicopter thread.

Why did nobody tell me about this? I've always considered the 55X rifles to be the best in class but I wasn't going to dare spend money on the US made 556 abominations. So much Swiss made goodness, ready for SBR. Is $3000 too much? I hear that that's about how much they cost in Switzerland anyways.

Swissfag here. Never used ARs or handled one, so I'm quite curious about something. As far as I understand this is a modular rifle where EVERYTHING can be quickly changed and replaced by parts from various manufacturers. There are a shit ton of equipment for these rifles and you can basically buy a cheaper AR15 and then keep upgrading it over the years. Am I correct? How would a 1k AR15 perform compared to a Stgw 90? >Pic related, one I made a while ago.

/k/, can you explain to me why today's conventional forces don't just focus primarily on artillery and drones? I can understand in WWII that troops movement became too fluid and unpredictable for artillery; but that was 70 years ago. Today, artillery is more accurate, faster to get on target, and we can use drones - both on land and in the air (plus real-time satellite data) to detect enemy forces for bombardment. I think in the next major conventional war, that humans - if they are used at all - will be relegated to hyper-mobile infantry (perhaps in exoskeletons or [And I know you'll froth at the mouth at this] mechs.) who act as nothing more than mobile light mortar and force recce platforms with 99% of the killing accomplished by artillery.

Marine veteran here to vent for a second. I won't vent about the usual you see on Facebook about silkies or tattoos but rather my anger with the way our government has treated this war. weather it's Al-Qaeda or isis this is a multiple headed beast that will never die until we fully fuck it in the butt with the same intensity the green weenie has fucked us for years. When we went into Fallujah the only voice we had was the Gulf war veterans who suffered from being there but not doing anything about it for the most part and their voice was the Vietnam vets. These two wars between Al-Qaeda and Isis are sooo close that I wanted to tell all of you no matter what branch you are in to slay bodies and fuck bitches. Give these shit bags the same love with no remorse like we did for 10 plus years and make their women wet for you. Fight them like a true warrior and always remember your fallen. We are always here for you unlike the V.A. was there for us and we'll never abandon you. Take everything we have taught you and wipe this bullshit from the face of the earth.

Hey /k/ool guys. I made a thread last night asking for help with a sheath design for my new kabar. I whipped this up today and just finished. I opted for no belt loop because I'm not a knife wearing kind of guy. This is my first time making a sheath and I think it turned out all right.

Yo /k/, for serious, what should I get for my first gun. Just got my own real house and I want something fun to at a range, but good for home defense. Rifle, shotgun, or handguns are all fine.
