I'm mad I picked this up instead of brief interviews. From what ive seen in the beginning, it's as dreadfully boring as the John McCain straight talk express thing. Are there any good stories in it I should check out? WOULD LOVE TO HEAR FROM MY FAVORITE TRIPFAG "????Ry6."

I finished Brideshead Revisited and have just started the "Sword of Honour" trilogy. Do any of you like Waugh, have any opinion on him? Just curious as I don't hear much about the author.

Pick a country and personal favourite work of literature thread? >Categories: Prose, play and poetry. I know a lot of these are obvious, but they really are my favourites. In the case of American plays, I'm not too well versed. I'm more familiar with British and Irish plays. >England Prose: To the Lighthouse - Virginia Woolf Play: Hamlet Poetry: Rime of the Ancient Mariner - Samuel Taylor Coleridge >Ireland Prose: At Swim-Two-Birds - Flann O'Brien Play: The Beauty Queen of Leenane - Martin McDonagh Poetry: The Second Coming - W.B. Yeats >The US Prose: Blood Meridian - Cormac McCarthy Play: Glengarry, Glenross - David Mamet Poetry: The Wasteland - T.S. Eliot

just picked up and started reading >pic related. and already have a few questions. the author calls the girl 8-14 nymphets? and he talks about how they are 'not human' is this literal, in the sense he beleives that these particular little girls aren't actually human and are really 'deamons'? or is it more of an analogy to let the reader understand how he sees these girls? I'm leaning towards the latter in what he actually believes.

Does anyone know the name of the site where you can take online courses in a variety of subjects? They'd usually be about 10 weeks long and very specific. Know what I mean?

What do you all think of Gene Wolfe and his Shadow and the Claw / Sword and the Citadel books? Honestly, it's probably my fault for believing some insane hype a friend dished out on me, but I really think they're lack luster. The main character is a shitty narrator, and the story randomly jumps around without any explanation for a few hundred pages before a character randomly info dumps what the fuck happened during the space of whatever tangent they're on this time.

How do you deal with not subscribing fully to any political philosophy, /lit/? I have a set of beliefs that takes elements from many other major political philosophies, but doesn't take any of them whole-sale. I've taken to calling myself a "Moderate Capitalist with Socialist Portions," but that doesn't really describe it and tends to start really stupid arguments. The fact that I hope the government moves to a completely dissimilar system as technology advances (to something I tentatively call "Automaton-Communism") doesn't help at all. I don't want to sound like a pretentious douchebag, but making up terms for myself makes me seem like that. I would refer to myself as a "Freethinker," but that has all sorts of connotations I do not desire. Does anybody else have this problem? How do you handle it?
