Casual bikers come in here!... 7 posts and 0 image replies omitted. Click to view.
Casual bikers come in here! I'm looking for something for the spring. Casual riding only. I have a Fuji mtb that I keep up at camp, that I love but would much rather have a road bike for these purposes. I live in an urban/suburban area with several small hills and would realistically only be putting putting 20-30 miles on a week. Now I figured I'd go with another Fuji much like pic related for around 550. I have a group of friends that think I'd be crazy to spend more than 300 for a bike to suit my purposes. Critical Cycles and State were some brands were brought up. They are single speeds but I guess I could get used to that... Any thoughts, input?

So I want to put drop bars on my mountain bike. I use my bike for a lot of moderately long rides and rarely for mountain biking. Any tips? Im primarily concerned with the shifters. I want to be able to switch from both handlebars but Im not sure If I would have to readjust the derailleur each time I switch.

Hello /n/, I figured this would be the best place to start asking: A friend of mine and me want to make a bike trip to Riga next summer, to visit another friend. My questions are now What kind of bike would I need for this? I have already looked around online, but most suggestions are 1200€+, I know quality has its price, but I'd rather buy a medium-price-range bike or assemble one myself. What are good luggage solutions for a bike trip, we plan to go very minimal, as the countries we pass through are pretty cheap and widely populated. Has anyone done something similar? If so, can you share any tips? We both are into sports and pretty fit, and also often ride bikes, so what is a realistic amount of km to achieve daily? Thanks in advance!

Hey there, /n/. First visit here. Anyone here own a moped from the late 60s to mid 80s? Here's my ride, a 1980 Honda Express. Got it last summer as a gift and got it running. Needs some electrical work and a new set of tires but it runs. I'll probably continue work in spring (Wisconsinbro here) and ride it this summer.

Rock salt to be delivered to NJ held up because ship is not flying U.S. flag, report says

http://www.nj.com/news/index.ssf/2014/02/rock_salt_shipment_held_up_because_ship_is_not_flying_us_flag_report_sayd.html large shipment of rock salt is not allowed to enter the Port of Newark because the ship does not fly an American flag, according to a report on NJ1015.com. The 40,000 ton shipment is in Maine and won't be permitted to be unloaded in New Jersey unless a waiver to the Merchant Marine Act of 1920 is obtained, the website reported. If a waiver from the federal government isn't provided, the rock salt would have to be moved onto slower-moving barges. The ship with the rock salt, on the other hand, could reach the Port of Newark in two days. "The maritime industry is working to ensure that the state has the resources it needs to meet its seasonal demand,” Thomas A. Allegretti, Chairman of the American Maritime Partnership said in a statement. “Despite short notice by transportation officials, maritime operators are moving to accelerate a request for additional salt and will deliver a new shipment to New Jersey before it is needed again.” The nearest available ship that flies the U.S. flag in accordance with the regulation would take weeks to arrive, NorthJersey.com said. U.S. Sens. Cory Booker and Bob Menendez told NorthJersey.com their offices have contacted the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Transportation to try to work something out. The Jones Act, as it is also known, requires that ships with goods traveling between two U.S. ports be delivered on U.S. flag ships. Meanwhile, Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop tweeted this morning that a different shipment of 500 tons of salt is arriving today. He told WCBS 880the city uses about 800 tons during a typical storm.
