Anybody got some opinions on this bike? A used bike store is selling it for $395 and I'm a cheap bastard right now but I want something that will be decent for commute/trails and actually be fun to ride. I've kinda read a couple of things about it being heavy and I'd like a light bike. Any suggestions? Can I improve any of the bad qualities of this bike for a decent price?

/n/ I need some help, I recently came up on a old salsa stem, one of the recalled ones, it looks and feels fine I'm not doing any mountain biking with it, I'm using it on my fixed gear and it seems fine I weigh around 130-140 pounds should I be worried of it snapping? I'm assuming its not too bad considering I'm not mountain biking.

Rock salt to be delivered to NJ held up because ship is not flying U.S. flag, report says

http://www.nj.com/news/index.ssf/2014/02/rock_salt_shipment_held_up_because_ship_is_not_flying_us_flag_report_sayd.html large shipment of rock salt is not allowed to enter the Port of Newark because the ship does not fly an American flag, according to a report on NJ1015.com. The 40,000 ton shipment is in Maine and won't be permitted to be unloaded in New Jersey unless a waiver to the Merchant Marine Act of 1920 is obtained, the website reported. If a waiver from the federal government isn't provided, the rock salt would have to be moved onto slower-moving barges. The ship with the rock salt, on the other hand, could reach the Port of Newark in two days. "The maritime industry is working to ensure that the state has the resources it needs to meet its seasonal demand,” Thomas A. Allegretti, Chairman of the American Maritime Partnership said in a statement. “Despite short notice by transportation officials, maritime operators are moving to accelerate a request for additional salt and will deliver a new shipment to New Jersey before it is needed again.” The nearest available ship that flies the U.S. flag in accordance with the regulation would take weeks to arrive, NorthJersey.com said. U.S. Sens. Cory Booker and Bob Menendez told NorthJersey.com their offices have contacted the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Transportation to try to work something out. The Jones Act, as it is also known, requires that ships with goods traveling between two U.S. ports be delivered on U.S. flag ships. Meanwhile, Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop tweeted this morning that a different shipment of 500 tons of salt is arriving today. He told WCBS 880the city uses about 800 tons during a typical storm.
Does anyone use this saddle?... 4 posts and 0 image replies omitted. Click to view.
Does anyone use this saddle? Got one a while ago since it seems to be very popular amongst many cyclicsts. It feels good and everything but after using it on only about 4-5 rides the leather is already starting to kinda "rub off" at the spots where my legs and ass move around and leaving dull, grey patches in those areas. Did I just get a chinese knock off or something l or is this normal? Even my 20$ Ritchey saddle from five years ago doesn't show that kind of wear and I rode the shit out of that. What the fuck Selle Italia, I thought this is supposed to be a tough, timeless classic.

How do I fix this broken handlebar? I can't take out the whole gab because of the thing at the top, it woudln't fit through the bycicle frame. Can I buy something that lets me put a new handle bar on there? I've found this bike a couple years ago and made it good to go again, i know it's old and everything but really like to ride it. It's also cool to always have a 2nd or 3rd bike. Any ideas?

Why do older highways, like the New Jersey/Pennsylvania/Ohio Turnpikes and the Illinois Tollway system have elaborate rest stops with restaurants and gas stations and such, while most of the newer (post 1958 mostly) have a parking lot with at most some vending machines, if anything?
