Hello /n/, I figured this would be the best place to start asking: A friend of mine and me want to make a bike trip to Riga next summer, to visit another friend. My questions are now What kind of bike would I need for this? I have already looked around online, but most suggestions are 1200€+, I know quality has its price, but I'd rather buy a medium-price-range bike or assemble one myself. What are good luggage solutions for a bike trip, we plan to go very minimal, as the countries we pass through are pretty cheap and widely populated. Has anyone done something similar? If so, can you share any tips? We both are into sports and pretty fit, and also often ride bikes, so what is a realistic amount of km to achieve daily? Thanks in advance!

socializing and cycling

anyone here experience any social weirdness after taking up cycling? ever since I started commuting with a bicycle, I've noticed a certain distance between me and other people. Cycling is a solitary activity by definition, so I have noticed that I always have to go my separate way and break up from the group early; as cyclist, my bicycle is parked right outside whether its work, a night out in a bar, a coffee shop. The others typically walk and wait for public transport, and I'm no longer part of that because my transportation mode is so efficient and convenient. I no longer partake in the public transport thing and others cant partake in my cycling home thing because they don't cycle, so I feel like there is this gap between me and other people. Have any of you experienced this thing, this artificial sequestration towards other cyclists and away from other people?

Hey /n/, I used to be big into cycling when I was younger but I stopped riding after a car accident in high school and I've gained quite of bit of weight over the years. My doctor says I'm what is classified as 'morbidly obese' and I need to start diet and exercise asap. Well, I'm definitely making improvements in the diet area, but exercise is a tough one. I've been walking, about 1 mile everyday. At first it was tough but I've been at it for about 3 months and it has become easy. I'd really like to do something higher intensity but jogging is out of the question. I'd probably bust my ankle if I tried. So I want to get back into cycling but I'm scared because I'm such a fat ass. Any tips for how to deal with rude drivers or mean kids in the neighbourhood?

Zomg, I've never seen an adult bike with such small wheels before. This takes the portability factor to a whole other level. Does anybody have any idea who makes this bike? I'd ride it. Would you?

So, /n/. I live in Ohio, and am currently looking for employment in the railroad industry, but I'm unsure which company to go for. I'd like to work for NS or CSX, but CSX's organization is shit, and I've heard NS doesn't treat their employees too well. I want to try and work for a regional like Ohio Central or Wheeling + Lake Erie, but I'm unsure what railroad to go for. Any information you guys have on treatment and wages would be nice to know.
