Fuck all these trainfags, let's talk about boats and various water transport modes. I personally think we should look more into ground effect flyers such as the Caspian sea monster; they're much faster than ferries and more economical than straight up small planes.

Alright /n/ I have a problem. My qt gf wants to get into riding with me, she bought one of those hipster fixies, which is fine. Now here is the problem, her right arm is approximately 6-10 inches shorter then what it should be. Imagine you had 4 inches of forearm and then you have your wrist. Along with that she is missing a thumb / shorter fingers on her right hand. All of this has made it very hard for her to ride a bike, I had to swap the breaks on the bike so she could pull the back break with her left hand which is fully developed. She is able to ride but not very well, and since she has to put 90% of her weight on her left arm to support herself which ends up hurting her wrist, or she ends up holding the bars with her undeveloped arm and leaning super far forward. I went and got her the shortest stem I possibly could, which are attached to bullhorn bars, which are actually risers. What else could I do do the bike so she can ride it better?

Women who commute on bikes

Hey /n/, I don't have a car, so I get around via bicycle a great deal. Pretty soon (sometime next month) I plan to buy a moped. I'm wondering about other women who commute, on bikes, how do you deal with it? I never wear make-up, because I end up sweating it off, but I'd like to. and Helmet hair and if I just change my clothes when I get there...changing in public bathrooms is tough as fuck Thoughts?

A cyclist crashed into my motorcycle this morning after he ran a red light, I was doing a steady 30mph and the guy claims I should have stopped for him. I saw him emerging but thought he was going to swerve behind me. Am I liable? I'm not much of an expert on bicycles but it looked like a pretty expensive road bike, the front wheel hit my exhaust guard, got ripped to shreds and the forks broke clean off where they join the frame (it looked like carbon fiber). Luckily, he just hit the road and bloodied his nose (no helmet). I have his name address and he has mine. He seemed pretty certain I was in the wrong, I didn't make the mistake of apologising or admitting liability. He also declined an ambulance, the police or a taxi (he had no phone).

O-oh, hai /n/... S-so, where do you buy your lycra? D-do you like it shiny, smooth and slidy? I-I'm quite particular with the %. I like 15% or more with nylon.

Foot retention thread

>before getting into cycling >"why do they sell bikes without pedals?" >after getting into cycling >"why do they sell bikes with pedals?" Foot retention, do you use it and what are your pedals of choice? Pic related, my choice. Standard cheap SPDs, I value being able to walk with my cycling shoes on.

Why are bicycle helmets so shitty? How is this supposed to protect me from a fall? How about the facial area? Are we stuck with the motocross like helmets?

Which one should I get, /n/? https://gainesville.craigslist.org/bik/4356330136.html https://gainesville.craigslist.org/bik/4335889929.html One is carbon fiber while the other is aluminum. There is somewhat of a price difference, but the Giant is much older than the Felt. I personally want the Felt more; its more put together, with the computer and pedals, not to mention its sexy as hell. Is this a no brainer? Should I save my money?

I very often mountain bike at my local park and it has lots of great trails with amazing scenery. But now I'm looking for a downhill biking park like the ones you see on youtube when searching for "downhill mountain biking", something that will actually test my skills and cause me to get better with practice. How and where do I find a park? I live in northern DE and there is literally nothing here. And when I say nothing, I don't just mean for biking, I mean a desert for every hobby you could imagine other than chicken farming

Im getting pissed. Some people like to feel superior to others, feeling like everyones bike and bike knowledge is inferior to theirs. Sometimes their builds look retarded yet when I say "Hey, I like 88 mm wheelsets, I think they'd look pretty badass on my commuter bike (single speed). You know, because why the fuck not?" They give me a look like " omg, r u srs? " Yet they fail to give me a valid reason why the fuck I shouldnt spend my money how I want. What I do worry about is quality. How do I know that the bike shops in my area ( all los angeles) dont just repackage china made carbon wheels and seel 'em for more than they are worth ? TL;DR Where can I buy 88 mm clincher wheelsets that is trustworthy and whats your opinion on 88 mm rimsets ? pic unrelated thats me getting hit by a service truck 2000 dollar bruise

Helmets

Helmets 23 posts and 7 image replies omitted. Click to view.
A lot of people complain about how bicycle helmets look, but rarely come up with anything that would help! I have ONE solution! Combine your favorite cycling cap with a BMX helmet, so you have less of a "Manchild who refuses to grow up" kind of look while still having a customizable functional helmet. If you don't like that suggestion, what ideas do you have to make the bike helmet look less "Have you seen by baseball?"

Considering building a bike... 6 posts and 1 image replies omitted. Click to view.
Considering building a bike for everyday use and some touring. I'm looking for a frame, steel preferable. What would be a good alternative to the Surly LHT? I've been looking at the Genesis Croix de Fer aswell, but im not sure if i want discs. I'd prefer v-brakes or cantis i think. I'm living in Europe, so shipping or a local dealer is a must. Price is more or less irrelevant, I'm just after a decent quality frame. >pic related, Surly LHT

Sponsorship general

Sponsorship general 16 posts and 1 image replies omitted. Click to view.
Have you ever been sponsored? What sort of value was your deal worth? Did you feel like what you received was in line with what you accomplished for your sponsor? Apparently there's a company out there that's interested in doing a deal with me.... ME?! They sponsor multiple World Cup winners and now they want something to do with me, who's much more akin to the kids who daydream about all the free stuff they'll get from the big brands - without any of the talent to justify it.
