How to avoid animal attacks? Would would one of those 130 decible rape alarms be loud enough to make animals go away?

I need a good Felling axe. I prefer a wood handle too. I would also like it to be a decent spliting axe as well.

Does /out/ have any experience being homeless, specifically in the California area? Slab City also being of interest. I ask this for obvious reasons. I have a bit of experience with living in the field from past occupations but I'm curious as to what the people here can tell me from their own experience.

I need your help /out/. I'm currently in a position where I can no longer live around anyone else. I'm not going to explain why, because that's none of your business. But I need help figuring out what to take on my journey into the woods. I'm going to be gone for a long duration of time, hopefully 5 years. What should I take? I gotta go light. I'm in a hurry. I have a tool shed that I can dip into and take what I need, but what do I need?

I'm applying to every farming apprenticeship I can find in British Columbia Canada. I can't believe I never heard of this before. The opportunity to live on a farm and learn about planting, harvesting and animal husbandry for fre room and board with an extra $500 per month beats the hell out of working as a cashier. Does anybody on out have any experience with this sort of a program? Ideally I'll become competent enough to travel the world as a skilled farm hand/carpenter, but maybe that's a pipe dream.

hey /out/ I want to get into back country/remote/buttfuck no where camping here in Colorado but i don't know how to go about doing that. I have the supplies, and i'm very comfortable with the outdoors here in Colorado. I've gone camping and hiking all over the state my whole life but usually just in populated area's. I want to start camping out where there is no one around for miles (probably asking to much here but you get the point) Anyone know where i can do this? What do i need to do this?

The Art of Flight is visually one of the best /out/ looking films I've ever seen. They seriously fucking nailed this movie. Some of the best landscapes.

Treasure Hunting

Tried this on /trv/, they said it was cool but that you guys might appreciate it more. ITT: >where you live >good treasure hunting places or any treasure hunting places you've travelled to >things you've found That could be rocks, arrowheads, coins, artifacts, civil war stuff, even rare plants. I'll start: I live in Georgia, south of Atlanta. I've been to Graves Mountain when it's open to the public (it is twice a year, next time coming up in April, I think.) The mountain has been stripped over the years, the surface exposed. There you can find beautiful pyrite, quartz, amethyst and most importantly, beautiful red-black glassy crystals of rutile, the best of anywhere in the world. If you want to travel there beforehand, you can always call up the owner and pay around $20 or something, as he needs to afford upkeep of his mountain. I can speak personally, this is an awesome place to go, better than any seeded gem hunt in Dahlonega. Also, we have a bunch of abandoned paper mills around here: Bennetts Mill had some ten different factories and mills and a self-sustained town by the 1870s, and by the early 1900s it had its own electric power. Now it's a zip-lining course, but I'd try metal detecting along the banks. Also check out Cochran's Mill Nature Center, a private park where they won't stop you from metal detecting. Don't get discouraged: You'll want to look for work tokens: Currency that had value only to workers and in the small town built around the factory. When they were done they would often throw them out of the back door. Any other places where you live? Any cool finds? Try to keep it legal, it's hard to find places to detect legally in GA.

hey out, what do you guys think is the most well rounded pack. e.g camping for up to a week, or just for 2days, general overseas travel. Pic related USMC Corpsman Pack

I didn't want to make a thread just for this but it doesn't look like there's an appropriate thread at the moment. I got a Zippo lighter for tripping and I'm kind of disappointed. This thing leaks like mad and is unreliable as a result. I tried ranger bands but they didn't do much. Any advice? Should I use an alternative? Just stick with matches?
