I'm applying to every farming apprenticeship I can find in British Columbia Canada. I can't believe I never heard of this before. The opportunity to live on a farm and learn about planting, harvesting and animal husbandry for fre room and board with an extra $500 per month beats the hell out of working as a cashier. Does anybody on out have any experience with this sort of a program? Ideally I'll become competent enough to travel the world as a skilled farm hand/carpenter, but maybe that's a pipe dream.

Hey sc/out/s! I live in the north Georgia mountains (US) and I'm getting excited about starting to plant for my container garden. Last year we successfully grew 6 varieties of tomatoes, okra, herbs, strawberries, lettuce, green beans, and squash. I want to double the output so we have more fresh veggies and fruits all summer/fall. What are y'all getting ready to grow? Any preferences, tips, infographs, or ideas about what to plant when? Also, general home gardening thread.

What's the most economical way/places to thru-hike? Have unlimited time and ten grand to last me as long as I can live on the trails. Share gear, advice, stories etc.

Realistically, how far can you canoe in one day? 2 paddles in the water - not wanting to kill ourselves or set speed records. No rapids - with the current - "big" river (Wisconsin) Also, general paddling/canoeing/kayaking thread.

Do you belong to a survival group? I hate the concept of a group larger than 8 but... No one person will have all the skills. For example I would want a doctor and/or trained ER paramedic in my group- not someone who read a book on it once... Someone who does it daily. Would also entertain an expert fisherman and/or forager. (Think les Stroud) Someone like a psychologist may be useful for preserving mental stability. But with the addition of every skilled member you also add alllllll there family and drama. Where is the balance?

>taking a long walk to wear in new boots >trying to start getting /out/ >walk down 4 miles of countryside paths >rustling of trees and blue skies >lay down on a bench and close eyes >WOOF WOOF WOOF >look around startled >two fucking dogs chasing a fox >dog mauls the fox by it's leg >fox is screaming loudly in pain >no owner in sight >other dog sprints past me faster than sahnik the hedgehog and joins in ripping apart this fox for fun >screaming everywhere >owner eventually fucking strolls out nonchalantly in the distance >fox screams audible a third of the way home Keep them on a leash, man. Fucking dog walkers. Leaving shit everywhere. Terrorizing wildlife. Ruining beaches and peaceful cycling routes with their 5am strolls with 20 fido's all off the leash, going nuts.

Went to Academy this morning and found Carhartt overalls, jackets at insanely reduced prices. Bought a pair of bib overalls for $20. Wolverine stuff is dirt cheap too as well as Underarmor hunting wear. Headed to Dicks in a minute to check there. Get it while you can.

So the good people of /k/ have suggested that I use deer antler for my knife handle. Problem is... I can't find a good list of where there are deer in South Wales; there are some apparently in Abergavenny but I just want to see if there is anywhere closer to home (Caerphilly). Any Welshies on here who can point me in the right direction? Will Bucks be dropping their antlers this time of year, or recently (Meaning I might find antler lying around)? Lastly, would anybody be up for a potential day-hike some time soon in South Wales (Though this would be a very big maybe).

Hey /out/, I think I need some advice from the urbexers on here. I've been trying to get into urban exploration recently, went on a few trips with a buddy of mine but I've been wanting to find some locations closer to home. So I've had my eyes on this abandoned abbatoir in my hometown and figured I'd invite my buddy over for some exploration for once. I did some scouting around tonight and ended up finding some ways in (I suspect there have been people going in there already; there were at least two fences with either a bar missing or bent bars to allow access to the premises) which seemed like everything would be off to a good start. As I scouted out the neighbouring buildings, I noticed one of the abbatoir's lights were on. I checked it out with a pair of binoculars and it looked like it was populated by what looked like a couple of squatters. Not really sure if they are though, but I'm certain they're not security. My question is: would it still be safe to go explore the abbatoir? Should I approach the squatters and ask for permission instead? Most of the stuff we've done so far was legit abandoned and I don't want to take any chances on this. Picture unrelated, didn't bring my camera.

I need some help, /out/. I broke my skis today, and was wondering if there is anything to be done about fixing them. They are a pair of Volant TiVertex. The top ski is the one that got bent. I was planning to try and bend them back into shape. Any info will be appreciated. Thanks.

Two questions /out/ 1) Best survival guide/general outdoor guide 2) Craziest animal you've seen in the wild 1, I don't know, that's why I am asking. 2, a lynx, I was out hiking and we made eye contact and we watched each other until I passed out of sight.
