Hi /out/. I don't know how often these threads crop up here, but I'd like to know if some of you would be willing to help a newfag with becoming accustomed to the /out/ lifestyle/hobby. I'm more interested in going underground, whether it be in caves or basements. Climbing radio towers or stories of abandoned buildings also peaks my interest, as opposed to hiking through forests or deserts. I have a few questions which on my mind which I'd like answered. First off, should I always go with a partner when urban exploring? I'm sort of worried that I'd get a dodgy partner off FaceBook or some shit, which would knock me out when I'm not looking, or even kill me, then steal my gear. I know no one which is interested in this. Secondly, is it neccesary to bring something like a pistol or knife for self defense if I run into some thug? I know it isn't likely, but I'd like to hear your thoughts on this. Is there a pastebin or something with detailed information? And finally, what are some books, documentaries or brands that you would recommend? I've been browsing for a couple of days now and I'm getting exited, so I have done a bit of research. Still, I'd like to hear what you have to say, since you guys seem to know a lot about this sort of thing. From the few days I've been on here, /out/ seems fairly welcoming, but I'd still like to apologize for newfagging. Thanks.

Hello /out/, I don't come here often, I'm mostly a /k/ommando. I live in Wisconsin and my friend and I are thinking about going camping this summer. I'm an Eagle Scout so I've been camping plenty of times but I haven't done it in years. We're just going to bring whatever we can carry on our backs and camp out somewhere in the forest on our own. Also I would probably bring a gun. Basically the point of this thread is to get some basics for camping out/surviving in WI/midwest since I'm a little rusty and the legality of camping wherever you want and bringing guns along for protection/shooting things.

I have $50 in amazon giftcard credit and regularly get more and am building a hiking/backpacking/camping backpack. What would be some random bits and bobs that would be better to get online rather than in a store?

Is it possible to camp underwater for 48 hours on a budget of $1,000? Maybe using something like in the pic but larger and with a floor?

Advice? Anyone else growing anything? >inb4 marijuana

Sup /out/? Going to the Grand Canyon in two weeks, I'll be coming in from Phoenix. That's basically all I have planned so far. It will be two people backpacking, we'll get there probably ~friday, we have to be back in Phoenix by 8AM monday. Suggestions for trails/campsites/apps/anything you can think of? This was kind of spur of the moment and now I'm mostly left planning this, Thanks /out/.

Looking for a good general use flashlight. Main points would battery life, unit life, compact size and of course maximum illumination. Price is somewhat of an issue. What specs should I look for? Also at what number of lumens do you get a good amount of light and what number is too much in relation to draining battery? Any other advice would be greatly appreciated.

Good morning, /out/! I'm looking to set up a rope swing in the woods this summer. Actually, I plan to set up multiple rope sings throughout the woods. I'm looking at different rope options here and I think I found the rope I want to use (pic related - Rope King USA SBN-38500 - UPC 813603010716). It's weather resistant and thick enough to safely grasp, but I can't find anything on it's safe workload limit. I see on Home Depot's website it lists a load limit, but it doesn't specify whether this is the safe workload limit or the max. tensile/breaking limit. Rope King UAS's website doesn't list either of these specs at all. Can anyone here tell me what the safe workload is for this particular rope? tl;dr - need help finding safe workload limit for Rope King USA's SBN-38500 - UPC 813603010716

Ask a guy who's been living outside in a tent during the wettest winter Ireland's had on record anything. Pic related, it is the type of tent I am using. Been out since Dec. 28th. 5 miles from city, walk there and back 6 days a week. >inb4 pics or gtfo Can't provide right now, only access is horribly out of date computer at work.
