I'm a 17 year old HS Junior from Chicago, Illinois. Although I live a very stable middle class existence, the big city is killing me. This summer, I'm making my way to The Lost Coast, a stretch of California Wilderness. I'm going to be camping there and doing my senior at the local school. What are your thoughts? pic related

Know your invasives

Know your invasives 4 posts and 1 image replies omitted. Click to view.
Do your part and familiarize your self with local issues concerning invasive insects. know what insects are invasive, what damage they cause, and what signs to look for. Report any significant findings to your state's pertinent authority. Also, DO NOT cross state borders with fire wood, as this can spread insects rapidly. In Maine, we have significant threats from the Emerald Ash Borer, Asian Long Horned Beetle (pictured), and Hemlock woolly adelgid. And you better bet that when I'm out this summer, I'm going to be keeping my eye out for all three, because these things have the power to destroy SIGNIFICANT amounts of timber. I would think /out/doorsmen would already know these things, but I figure it doesn't hurt to remind people

Hey /out/ How would I go about attaching my sleeping bag to the bottom of my backpack? No straps on the bottom, I guess I didn't think it through when I bought the pack.

Not sure if this is the best board for this, but I'm going to Europe this summer (Belgium and Germany specifically) and I'll be walking a lot. I'd like to get some shoes that'll be comfortable walking long distances and also waterproof. Bonus points if they look good enough to be worn casually. Any recommendations?

Read the Subject, please. Gentlemen, Today it is uncertain times and I have little pocket money. at around $30 dollars, I can pick up one of these tents a Stansport 6x6 6x3 Scout tent, pic related. My question would be, are they good? Cozy? Spacious enough? keep out the critters and sunlight? Is it made good? Any help or opinions would be appreciated greatly, and I would be truly obliged. Thanks in advance.

My friends and I live in southern Ontario, Windsor to be exact. We are planning on taking a 3-7 day camping trip this summer (hopefully repeat every year getting more towards true innawoods each time) and aside from car camping none of us have done anything like this before. Can anyone give any suggestions as to where we should go (preferably under 9 hour drive still in Canada) and what we need to bring?

Kayaking

For a school Sport Science trip I'm going Kayaking for a week. The only Kayaking I've done is in a swimming pool and on the beach for a few hours at a time. I was just wondering if anyone here has a decent knowledge or experience kayaking. Any tips, or anything you think I should take with me? Picture kinda related.

Hey /out/, is there anyone here who lives in a small town closer to nature? I live in a city California and have been wondering what its like to move and live somewhere else (maybe sierra mountains areas) If you do live in these kinds of areas what kind of work do you do? Are you able to support yourself? Would it be difficult to move and settle in with no contacts? Anything else to add? Thanks for your time.

Hello /out/, I don't come here often, I'm mostly a /k/ommando. I live in Wisconsin and my friend and I are thinking about going camping this summer. I'm an Eagle Scout so I've been camping plenty of times but I haven't done it in years. We're just going to bring whatever we can carry on our backs and camp out somewhere in the forest on our own. Also I would probably bring a gun. Basically the point of this thread is to get some basics for camping out/surviving in WI/midwest since I'm a little rusty and the legality of camping wherever you want and bringing guns along for protection/shooting things.

Surviving in the middle of the ocean is not as easy as Pi makes it look. For 38 days a family survived by undergoing makeshift enemas and eating turtles. Man vs Wild - Bear's Enema https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TtIG4TuVnvg This never gets old.

Pack light kayak

Any experiences with pack light kayaks? I want to bring this inflatable kayak ( like the one pictured) with me on a trip to Morocco this summer. I want to paddle of the Rif coast near Tangier. The kayak is about 4 lbs and can carry a load of 250lbs . It is about the size of a handbag and I want to take it and my paddle in my suitcase. Any other inflatable kayaks I should look at!
