Long distance (100km or 60mi), short time (24h). What food/drinks would you put in your backpack? >At the drinks: yes, I know about so called "water". Well maybe there is some other wunderdrink you'd reccomend >I'm assuming there is no point of taking any other camping equipment as it always weighs something. Let's discuss because who knows? Maybe the shared knowledge could come in handy for you too...

Weird stuff

Weirdest/creepiest things you've found while camping/hiking Once I found 2 very well built huts in the middle of no where in the woods. They were made out of GIANT boulders and huge logs that weighed more than anyone could ever carry. No one was inside and I really wish I had brought a camera.

Not sure if this is the right place but I'm interested in buying and maintaining a bonsai tree indoors. Does anyone have any tips or links to where I can not fuck it up?

Next week I'll be heading up to Canada to a place called Churchill to help some researchers with data collection. I've never really been /out/ for more than a couple days (and thus don't post very much here), and this expedition is going to last a couple weeks. I guess I technically won't be /out/ the whole time, as I'll be staying in some barracks at night. Anyways, was hoping I could get some advice on what to pack and how to deal with bugs. So far I've got >rain jacket and pants >warm nylon gloves >a few pairs of thermal underwear >a few pairs of cargo pants >a nifty fishing-style hat >a beanie >four pairs of hiking socks >a few pairs of wool socks >underwear >t-shirts >cotton socks >jeans >pf flyers hi top boots >bug jacket and head net >40% deet bug spray >bug spray for skin >first aid kit >dr. bronner's soap >'nocs >insect bite relief >sunscreen >head lamp >gopro 3 >x100s >basic toiletries >waterbottle with filter >medium backpack missing anything?

Mil-surp. camping

Total noob question, but why the hell don't military sleeping bags roll down/ compress into anything remotely compact?? You'd think they were designed to be carried, but mine is the size of a 5gal. bucket at best and weighs quite a bit. Come on, real sleeping bags are expensive! TL;DR I'm cheap and picky Pic kinda related.

Would these be any good for hiking in the summer? I'll be going for a 12km hike (6km up and 6km down) this weekend and i don't have the money to buy gud boots right now. I wore these kappas last winter, in the city. Thanks

Little nuggets of outdoor lore that others may or may not know. >The moss that grows off trees makes great tinder >Carry a lighter. Making fire like a caveman may be cool, but fire on demand may save your life >When hunting, avoid walking over hills. Even animals that aren't terribly visual will notice you >Birds are basically solar powered, if you want to catch them, climbing the tree at night is your best bet >Pretty fucking obvious, but learn the area you will be staying in. Poisonous animals, edible plants, seasonal hazards, predators and how to avoid them.

Walkie Talkie or 2way radio thread

A friend and I are convoying to Vegas from Dallas soon. Throughout most of West Texas, East New Mexico and West Arizona we have little to no cell reception, yet require a reliable way to communicate with each other through our drive. I feel as though a short wave/2-way radio would be the best bet for us, but neither of us have any idea what we're looking for. The max range doesn't need to be anything insane, just a handful of miles. Also, CB radios aren't an option as we don't travel often enough to mount one. Any recommendation and advice is much appreciated.

Best Survival Show

I want to know what are the best survival shows according to you, I don't mind about camera angles, not fluided speech or shit like that, I just want to learn (I know the best method is going /out/ and I already go) No shitty shows where the main idea is to get viewers, I want educational ones. Somebody had to do this thread, because you guys discuss about this almost every week. Thank you all.
