Old Schoolhouse for Sale

Old Schoolhouse for Sale 29 posts and 15 image replies omitted. Click to view.
I posted this over on /x/, but I figured /out/ might be interested too. I found this cool looking country schoolhouse from 1880, and I'm going to commence dumping some photos I took today. The county is going to be selling the lot (about 1/10th acre) and schoolhouse in a few weeks, and I was considering bidding on it. The starting bid is only $500, and since this is pretty rural, not many people tend to bid. I've wanted some rural land to camp/grow plants on for awhile now, but I'm just not sure what I would do with this place if I bought it. I thought /x/ might like it. There's also a spooky cemetery across the street. This is in Wisconsin, US if anyone was curious.

Just concocted a new experiment tonight in my garden. I grow everything in containers, in lots of various forms, but lately, ive started doing some outdoor hydroponics. Ive done lettuce grows before indoors, but ive never just stuck them out to the real world, away from timers and lights. (electric bill argg) i didnt get many good pics, but ill throw a few up, take one here and there as it goes. the pic here is of a cool plant, finally giving me a second offering. anyone guess what it is?

The NYC Undercity

So, fellow /out/doorsmen...is anyone familiar with the NYC undercity "mole people" - the people who live in abandoned subway stations, sewer lines, old worker housing units, etc? There is literally a city below the city, and it is huge. I want to help them. My question is what supplies and materials we might donate to them to build up this city? I figure /out/ is most knowledgeable on such subjects. They need the basics of survival outdoors, except they are underground.

Hello /out/ ShortsMan here I am going to be camping this week Haven't been camping since I was 15 I would like some tips on: How to make a proper fire (How should logs be set up?) How to cook on a fire (I'm a bad cook) Sunscreen? (I will be wearing shorts to protect my face) Can I dry my socks near the fire or do i have to get entirely new ones on? Should I consider long sleeves if I don't have good enough sun screen? Any other tips or tricks would be appreciated

Where can I go out? I live in Southern California and I want to practice bushcraft in a wooded area and I don't want to pay any camp fees. Does Big Bear have any areas designated as wilderness?

so i just moved to the east side of pa, (use to live on the west side by pittsburg...) and im looking for places to go inawoods. back in west pa i lived close to the Allegheny national forest and use to go there all the time. but up in that area it was very wild and rural. most places you could just pull over on the side of the road and set up camp, and enjoy the outdoors. where on this side of the state would be like that? >pic related, somewhere in Allegheny national forrest

I'm curious, has anyone here ever been a counselor/worked at a kids' summer camp? i'm in the middle of my second summer and i kinda just want to hear some stories from other places. i'll share a few of my own if the thread doesn't take off >be last week >lot of kids returning from last year >be popular amongst older campers because i care slightly less about rules around them >during lunch on tuesday they suddenly start chanting >TIM SMITH CANNOT BE STOPPED >the entire dining hall joins in >150 kids chanting my name >fast forward to closing campfire on friday >they have the idea to put me in a kayak and put it on their shoulders coffin-style and march me down to the fire circle >i am now a god >tim is love, tim is life

Feel so good now. Putting dirt down in my backyard so I can start planting potatoes. Cardboard put down to kill off the shitty stuff underneath, gonna put more around the area as well. My dad went to go get the plant food.

Axe thread

Gonna be getting some money for an axe soon, looking for a 18-28" handle axe, should I get a Wetterlings, Gransfors Bruks, or Fiskars? I already have a few tools from Fiskars (X27 splitter, brush axe), and I'm pretty satisfied with Fiskars' product quality, but I've heard Wetterlings and Gransfors Bruks' ish is 9/9 mighty fine too.

Berry identification

I recent went on a walk in a forest in lower New York (Croton on Hudson) and found these. I would like to get some identification if possible 3 pics incoming. The first I think are called Wineberries but they may be Raspberries... I ate some of them (other people on the trail were, but I got no real answers as to what they were) and they were sweet, but without the tang of rasperries, so I dunno.
