Hiking in South Korea. Within the next year, I'll be stationed in South Korea (U.S. Army). Does anyone have any experience being innawoods there?

Graffiti counts as an outdoor activity, right? This was my first attempt at rendering anything with spray paint. Was a bit light headed afterwards, not sure if the sensation came from the fumes or the heat. Suppose I should probably get new filters on the respirator I salvaged. >Graffiti general? >y'all have any pieces? >tips? >stories? Let's make it happen, /out/ >inb4 vandal I've never defaced anything not already soiled by some other arse with a rustoleum

Total noob question, but why the hell don't military sleeping bags roll down/ compress into anything remotely compact?? You'd think they were designed to be carried, but mine is the size of a 5gal. bucket at best and weighs quite a bit. Come on, real sleeping bags are expensive! TL;DR I'm cheap and picky Pic kinda related.

Little nuggets of outdoor lore that others may or may not know. >The moss that grows off trees makes great tinder >Carry a lighter. Making fire like a caveman may be cool, but fire on demand may save your life >When hunting, avoid walking over hills. Even animals that aren't terribly visual will notice you >Birds are basically solar powered, if you want to catch them, climbing the tree at night is your best bet >Pretty fucking obvious, but learn the area you will be staying in. Poisonous animals, edible plants, seasonal hazards, predators and how to avoid them.

Weird stuff

Weirdest/creepiest things you've found while camping/hiking Once I found 2 very well built huts in the middle of no where in the woods. They were made out of GIANT boulders and huge logs that weighed more than anyone could ever carry. No one was inside and I really wish I had brought a camera.

I'm just thinking about muh food an sheeit. I have a big bag of Quaker Old Fashioned oatmeal just sitting around. I think that it would be a good food to take with me on a hike. But I was wondering, what if I blend it up a bit in the blender, into some sort of powder? You know, to increase the surface area of the oats and reduce the cooking time (and fuel usage). I think I can deal with the resultant gruel-like texture. Is my logic sound? Does it in any way, shape or form affect the nutritive value of the food?

Hey /out/, tell me what are some good books about (preferably written by) XIX-early XX century explorers/geographers/hunters! Livingstone, Stanley, Strzelecki, Patterson, the lot. I would really love to read about their adventures, discoveries, and how they coped with problems they encountered.

So I spent the weekend running up and down rhyolitic volcanos and scrabmling up obsidian boulders out near Mono Lake, CA. Thought I'd share some pics from that. If you haven't been and can make it there, it's fucking amazing....

Do the more expensive lithium disposable batteries last longer for LED flashlights? And, are name-brand alkalines like Duracell and Energizer worth the premium over budget alkalines? Thanks. I love you.
