Recreational Boating

I was out at the lake the other day with some friends, and I zoned out of whatever conversation was going on and start looking at the lake. Holy shit, it's a lot bigger than I thought it was. After watching an angry duck scream with incoherent rage at nothing at all for a while, I noticed the people with little kayaks and canoes and whatever on the lake. That shit looked a lot more fun than standing around on the shore like an asshole with nothing to do. So, I reckon I stop buying other stupid shit all winter long, and come spring or early summer I buy me a little kayak or canoe or whatever. Paddle out there on the lake and laugh at the dumb assholes on the shore. Probably get some good exercise too. Does anybody here do this, and do they have any thoughts for a potential beginner?

Anyone wanna help me identify this weird plant? My first guess when was 'mutant dandelion,' but that was when it was a single stalk. It's now about 30 inches tall.

Hello, /out/. I live in the Hudson Valley of NY. There are deer fucking everywhere. I'm talking like 30+ of the fuckers stampeding through my property a day, eating fucking everything, and dropping ticks and deer shit all over the goddamn place, spooking my dog, and being general nuisances. Is it legal to shoot them with a crossbow? How much does a permit cost to hunt them when crossbow season rolls around? I have zero experience with hunting permits and that sort of shit, please help me with this. I need to thin their numbers, badly. They've never been anywhere near this bad before.

I don't plan on trying backpacking for awhile and I already have a good tent so I don't wana spend money on a hammock, so what are you guys' thoughts on cots for car camping? Anything I may have overlooked? Or am I just that much of a wuss?
Kind of an /out question about... 90 posts and 1 image replies omitted. Click to view.
Kind of an /out question about dogs in my local park. Let me start with a slight amount of back story. I grew up taking care of a dog I loved very much until it died when I was about 15. One of my first memories of my life was getting that dog, I cried when she died. I love dogs. That being said, I'm seriously about to shank some god damn dogs that attack me in the park. I frequently go running/biking at my local park which is within walking distance of my house, lots of trails. Despite the LEASH LAW requiring all dogs to be leashed, everyone walks them with no leash, and 90% of the time, the second a dog sees me, it runs up to me with extreme aggression barking and usually trying to bite. I'm fucking sick of it. I have martial arts training, and the first 2-3 times this happened, I got bit and did nothing back, brushed it off and said "it's ok" when the owner apologized. Since then I have taken to kicking the dogs in the face. Sometimes it works, sometimes I have to fight more. I shouldn't have to stop working out in my local park because assholes don't want to obey the law. I guess my basic question is, Would I be a total asshole if I started bringing a knife with me and shanking these dogs? I refuse to stop going, and I also no longer feel safe without a weapon. Also I have training with knives, and I know I could take one down.

Hunting Hiking Trip

Hunting Hiking Trip 0 posts and 0 image replies omitted. Click to view.
Hello /out/doorsmen. In a few weeks, I'll be heading up north for a 5-night/6-day hunting trip. We will be hiking and camping on ~25k acres. Fortunately, we have someone meeting us about half way through so we can resupply. My only concern is this: What firearms to bring? Do I sacrifice defense power (from people to black bear) on my long gun to bring a .22? Do I carry 2 long guns (i.e. pack a small .22 rifle)? Might be more suitable to /k/, but I figured I'd try here first. Oh, obviously weight is an issue. My "pack" is a modular frankenstein built around an enhanced load bearing vest. Currently weighs 18 lbs. without water. Thanks in advance! pic unrelated

Make your own natural world

Of all the games out there, none embraces nature quite like Super Mario! With the provided Level Editor you could make your very own outdoor wonderworld with all the grass, bush, tree, stone, lava, and water tiles you can imagine, then put any reptile, plant, fish, moles, etc. sprites in. Springboards and vines can help you reach new heights while pipes warp Mario any place else. Your imagination is the limit. > Main site: http://www.pouetpu-games.com/index.php?section=2&game_id=2&w=640&h=480 > Medium size version: http://www.pouetpu-games.com/index.php?section=2&game_id=2&w=480&h=360 Select 2000 x 2000 for maximum space. Yes, another knife thread. I've carried a stockman style knife for years, and they were always my main tool, receiving tons of abuse. Recently, however, I picked up a Leatherman Super Tool for functionality and a Gerber EAB for cutting uses. As such, my stockman (after a thorough cleaning and sharpening) was relegated to food duty. However, I'm really curious about Opinel options, and after comparing lenghts (Buck stockmans are 3 7/8" ~ 98mm) and checking up on Opinel sizing (No. 9 is 90mm and No. 10 is 100mm) it really looks like the Opinels are fuckhueg by comparison. Anyone have any experience with EDC pocket carry of Opinel knives? I'm really looking for something that'll fit nicely in the hip pocket.

Okay /out/ so I've done about 5 20km hikes by now, so I'm starting to get into, I recently purchased a new pair of hiking boots. But now I want to go hiking/camping overnight, I go camping all the time in my 4WD but I have no idea what hiking camping will be like. How much food should I pack? What food even? Do I bring just a sleeping bag? How do I fit the sleeping bag and tent onto my pack? What kind of pack do I need for an overnight stay? Basically I have no idea how to camp without a car to store heaps and heaps of shit, need help with the bare essentials kind of deal.
