Anyone have any tips on getting a job in photography? I was thinking of applying at a Motophoto,( it's a chain), but I'm not sure what they might need from me. Should I try to setup a portfolio and is there anything else you think they might need?Do I need a degree for something like that?

Hello /p/, I'm wondering if we can have a thread about experiences with stock photography. Today I was contacted by Getty Images via email. Not the stupid Getty Images Flickr thing, but directly from Getty and to my business email that would only be found on my website. They pasted several of my images in the email to show what they were interested in and said they would like me to be a part of their "moment" collection, which was in quotes like that. Anyway, I've always strayed away from these opportunities because they seem to be tied in with Flickr, 500px or be part of a company I've never heard of. The main thing is that I shoot (locally successful) fine art landscape photographs and sell prints of high quality that aren't mass produced. I don't want this to damage my main desires with my business, but at the same point I'm reaching a point where I have a strong need for new sources of income to stay afloat and keep doing what I love. Has anyone had any experience with working directly with Getty? Can it be a profitable and reasonable venture or is Getty mostly interested in fucking people? Is it worth submitting similar photos to the ones I make prints of that aren't the same, to keep from reducing perceived value of my prints? Do people even actually license landscape photos? What say you, /p/? Of course I've been using Google, without many clear answers, so I want to ask my favorite photo community in the world.

Hi /p/ about office space photography.. An interior design company wants me to photograph their furniture and styling made in office environments at two different companies. Im expected to spend a couple of hours at each of the companys office and take images of different rooms, both spacious working areas and the small conference type, showing their furniture, tables, mats etc. Images are expected to look clean, sharp and bright like the usual real estate photography being seen. This is my first real interior photography job and i really got the pressure on me that it turns out good looking so... Do you have any essential advice or some basic routines/tips before such a shoot? Im guessing its important to fill the rooms with lights and make it look big with a wide angle lens and have straight lines in the composition etc.. But how to really do that and make it look great? Im bringing ... And would you consider this as an ok setup? Canon 7D Wide Angle lens Canon 20mm 2.8 (renting this cuz have none myself but 24-105 and thats not going to cut it, but is 20mm the right choice for wide angle?) Manfrotto tripod, couple of memory cards and extra batteries And now.. 430 ex ii flash onto camera pointing up and/or if i bring my elinchrome flash as extra (1 or 2 units) pointing up.. Bouncing the light to make it look soft in the rooms What do you think of all this? Pic related: a quick snapshot, just for documentation purpose, when i visited a couple of days ago to get familiar with one of the offices surroundings for the upcoming shoot [EXIF data available. Gear Thread! Don't know what to buy? Did you buy a new thing and want to show it off? Unable to find the answer to a question? Post in here! If anyone makes their own thread about gear, politely redirect them here so they don't clutter the board or get trolled. Remember that people will try to troll you, if anyone says "pro" "better" or "equivalent" they are trolling. [EXIF data available. So i know shutter speed affects saturation and aperture affects DoF and i think contrast, but what are some more of the more "advanced" relationships of caps camera settings that don't often get talked about?
