Next week I'm going to get the opportunity to hang out at a fashion photoshoot. Without getting in the way I can bring a simple setup and shoot. I was thinking it would be fun to shoot film and I was thinking maybe I could go for the Terry R look with a simple set up of small flash and sync cord. I could use some input or ideas of setups for this situation. [EXIF data available. hi /p/, I'm not a photographer at all, but I really want to be better. Maybe they're awful because I don't practice a lot (no free time in this time of the year). What I did wrong? dumping less-awful shots from this morning, thanks in advance for the criticism 1/3 [EXIF data available. More power to her. But in another sense all she is creating is just ephemeral, vulgar marketing trash. Is this the best that photographers should aspire to nowadays?

Flash etiquette

Flash etiquette 30 posts and 0 image replies omitted. Click to view.
Hey /p/ as a soon to be photojournalist (self taught, from a more fine art background), what's the etiquette on when flashes are allowed to be used? Does anybody have advice or anecdotes? I'm assuming lectures/ news conferences are OK? Dimly lit concerts?

Basic question on lens specifications here. For example if I see 2.8/35 The 2.8 in this case is the fstop while the 35 is for 35mm? Is this correct?

So /p/. Three weeks ago I had all my camera-gear crushed by an intern at an airport. Cried a little, luckily my insurance covers. So I have been messing around with my DSLR for a while now. I find myself taking mostly indoor shots within my apartment of my dog, people, food, etc. I am having trouble getting really detailed shots. I am having to use the widest aperture with high ISO to avoid using flash (built-in flash makes ugly shadows). Is an external flash the solution to all my problems? If so, what's a good and cheap one for Nikon DX? Also any indoor photography tips would be appreciated. Sry that pic is from my phone. I am at work with only my phone. Still the kind of photography I like.
