So, I got a camera for my last birthday and I haven't really used it much since. But I decided to take it out today and take some photos. I did Photography in school so I know the bare-bones basics and stuff but I'd like to hear your guys opinions, these are all photos taken from my room window. http://imgur.com/a/nDQwd#0 [EXIF data available. Hey /p/. I just found my sisters "old" photography equipment. Because she quit after getting her camera and lens broken (classical airport story), I can claim the loot. I got some lens hoods, a light bag, straps, a few shitty books, some cleaning stuff etc. I also got a nikkor 55-200mm and a d40. I own better equipment in both cases, but would still like to repair them. (because like repairing shit and can maybe sell them later) The lens was totally useless, but after removing the A/M focus switch and replacing it (it was actually just putting a hook in the right place) manual focus started to work. Autofocus tries to work, but mostly goes back and forth. Zooming mostly works but sometimes gets stuck. According to google this is relatively common for nikon lenses. Do you think it is something I can repair on my own? As for the d40, I can not test it because the battery is empty and I can not charge it. The adapter has + - and S. When I mess the voltage between + and -, it is 0, +S and -S are both 4V. (On the adapter stands 8V) WTF is S? When I place the battery, the charging light is no lid and after waiting for some time, there is no voltage in the battery. What could be a way of testing what does and does not work? TLDR: OP found some broken gear and tries to repair it.

Hey /p/ I'm a total newbie when it comes to photography. I'm taking photojournalism next year and I want to know some of your tips for those just getting into photography. Also if you have any guides or videos I could watch/read those are also welcome. Pic is related, I took it early last month. [EXIF data available. ITT: portrait/wedding photography I'm just a hobbyist and some family members commission me for portraits every once in a while. I don't think I'm that great at it but they're all kind of creatively challenged anyway, so it's good practice. What is your process from start to finish with a portrait session? I've found that posing is a lot harder than previously thought, does anyone have tips or resources they would like to share? I'm still learning the in's n out's of PS, and I'm trying to develop a consistent style. Also, if you're doing a shoot for someone and they are wearing something unflattering for photos or it clashes with your aesthetic, how do you deal with that? Pic related, we had talked about no busy prints beforehand -_- speaking of pic related, c&c? Is the post processing too much? I edit on my old sony laptop and it's annoyingly difficult because the screen calibration is so wonky. [EXIF data available. Fuck Facebook photographers. I was at a Roddy Piper comedy gig (yes the wrestler) and there was a guy snapping away non fucking stop all night. I just found the facebook album and it's a shitshow. 240 pictures, all HDR, all of the exact same fucking thing (someone standing on stage with a microphone), massive watermark AND massive photo credit. As if anyone would want to steal these.

Doing a roadtrip in southwestern USA and currently facing dillema on what lenses to take. Will photograph mostly landscapes (tripod) and street stuff. In an ideal world I would take all of my lenses. But it's damn hot and I want to pack light. Choices (canon): 16-35L, 24-70L, 50 1.8 prime (low weight but not L glass quality) and 35 2.0 prime (same as 50). Do i need the 16mm for landscapes? I'm kinda going towards no. 24-70 is good for allround, no chaging but it weighs a lot. The primes are light and ideal for hiking but the quality will lack. Any thoughts? [EXIF data available. I've posted this triptych here before. If you like it, you should know that I'm giving one 13"x19" print of it away for free. I'm currently trying to sell a limited run of ten signed, numbered prints on Saatchi Art: http://www.saatchiart.com/art/Photography-Triptych-No-1/717808/2079196/view For promotional purposes, I'm giving away one of the ten for free. All you need to do is retweet this to enter: https://twitter.com/Manifestists/status/489537991145046016 In two weeks, I'm going to pick a random person who retweeted that status and mail the print to them at no cost.
