Virtue of intelligence

If with the right inherent intelligence (or more relatable, savantism) and the right circumstances (lucky chances), training or schooling (a kg savant can't accomplish anything), and, is there really such a thing as hard work? Inventions are easy if you are Einstien, i.e. Why hero worship someone who is smart? It's like worshipping Hulk for undergoing a radiation failure. Not to sound like this is a tangible point, but advice me before I lose my faith from this rote schooling. I can't compete against these dipshits who seem magically focused with no conscious thought or wilfulness.

Hello all, I am starting college in the fall and with the high price of textbooks I though I would come here to see if anyone could offer some help of obtaining a pdf or ebook of Six Ideas That Shaped Physics (unit N and R) I have looked on other sites however I can't find the two units I need. Any help?

Is economics (or any branch of it) a science? Why or why not?

If I was to take a snapshot of the whole universe right now, how much storage would I need? (Is it ineffective to use Bytes?) Could that much of information be saved in our universe? And what if I was to start emulating one? Would that require a finite amount of processing power? Sorry for this very unrelated pic.

what jobs can someone with a masters in physics do that doesn't involve sitting at a desk 24/7?

I often see articles in yellow about "scientists", usually british and american, who just discovered that lack of sleep temporarily makes your memory worse or that women love rich men. And I am 100% sure, that gender studies and woman's orgasm studies are made by the same imbeciles. My question is, WHO THE FUCK IS FINANCING THESE IDIOTS? Really, the world could be much better if these money were spended for something useful, like scholarships and grants for normal scientists.

Is the anthropic principle bullshit? What is the current scientific consensus on multiple universes/string theory?

What is the purpose of question marks. In most cases, at least in all languages using interrogative pronouns, it's very clear from the syntax that an expression is meant to be a question. Also, the fact that a question mark is at the end of the sentence makes it pretty useless anyway. An interrogative meaning would need to be indicated at the very start, this is by interrogative pronouns. What do you think. Is it necessary.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monad_%28functional_programming%29#Monads_in_other_languages Is there a good just justification for implementing monadic design pattern in languages without static typing? Even in strongly typed languages, it appears the only real merit is that you get rid of repetitive code in a single function (you store everything the endofunctor does in some module called 'bind'), but since this function has a weird type (confusing enough so that there isn't as single good monad tutorial around), I don't see why it would make anything easier without types.

number of tangents of a triangle

Am I mistaken, or would a triangle have 6 tangents. Three for each point, and three aligning to the the edges?

I was glancing this guy's paper on the abc conjecture and I feel like complete shit for not understanding a single fuck. Does this mean I'm stupid? EE here.

I'm planning a series of alcohol related activities this summer for me and my friends. It's open invite so I'm expecting up to 30 people. To divide teams, I wanted to do something creative. I wanted to have the teams decide by throwing a ball of chemicals into the campfire, and let the color decide teams. TL;DR - How to make colored fire in portable packages

FAO : Someone smarter than me Been staring at this for a while, anyone clever on /sci/ atm ? For probability distributions which have a density function the latter equals the derivative of the distribution function. One could try to estimate the density function by computing the derivative of the empirical distribution function. This could e.g. be done by computing finite difference quotients, combined with the assumption that the derivative is constant between any two given sample points. What sort of density estimator would emerge from that procedure?

Debate

Sup nerds. Whatcha think of debate? Yay or nay? There's a club in my uni and they regularly debate and compete in tournaments. Should I join up? Also: is there anyplace online where people and come debate via skype or google hang outs? It'll be a cheap way to practice speaking and in front of strangers and could get us good quick.

>This is actually a thing http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microwave_auditory_effect >The microwave auditory effect, also known as the microwave hearing effect or the Frey effect, consists of audible clicks (or, with speech modulation, spoken words) induced by pulsed/modulated microwave frequencies. The clicks are generated directly inside the human head without the need of any receiving electronic device. OK, /sci/, how do I build one and use it to fuck with people?
