I want to travel to the USA... 19 posts and 1 image replies omitted. Click to view.
I want to travel to the USA and experience the real America. Things like eating competitions, red necks and hill billies with goldmines (are hill billies and rednecks the same thing or different?), trailer parks, gun nuts (the sort that take anti tank missiles to hunt rabbits, not the 'murder everybody in sight for a bullshit reason" type) etc. I want to see people so fat, they have to get around on electric scooters singing the national anthem on street corner. Diners where you get served by a 50 year old waitress called "Pearl" or "Selma" who looks like she is in her 80s. I want to see Barbershop quartets, Klansmen in full regalia parading down streets too and other typically American scenes. Where are the best places to go to see these sorts of things and more like them, rather than the sanitised and fake show they put on for tourists in LA or new york?

What are some resorts and cruises that are targeted for young adults in their twenties who wanna get drunk and fuck women? Somewhere in or close to the U.S. is preferred.

So next summer or about 1 year from now I am planning to pretty much Vagabond from the US down south through central America then through South America. I am then planning on going to the South Pole then basically return via an opposite route or opposite side of South America back to the US. This will be for both the experience and a personal pilgrimage of sorts. I need some help though. >Male, will be 19 when I depart. >I expect to spend about 1-2 year(s) doing this. >Will have around 3-7K total so will spend a lot of nights outside/inside a Church. >I don't know which route to take/which is safest. >What gear I should bring. >I have a car but should I sell it? Any advice in general that some of you more advanced travelers can give is needed. Also just as a note, Im not really looking for the sex tourism or any drugs like some others have made threads about.

First time poster on /trv/ I'm going to start learning Persian tomorrow so I can eventually go to Iran. I'm already trying to get a feel for my travel route and what I should do. I've read in /int/ that I need to stay away from the South Eastern part of the country. Has anyone on /trv/ been to Iran and know where to go? I'm interested in the history mainly of this country, as well as the geography. From what I've read on /trv/ today, it seems that people in different countries are nice to foreigners. Can anyone that's been to Iran vouch for this?

What are some cool American cities? I'm from Texas and would like to find more cities like Austin. -Can ride your bike anywhere in town without too much effort. -Very easy to swim in the summer; near a river, ocean, or lake. -Active and modern population; lots going on. I've only heard of Portland being like this, but idk about the swimming since it's above the 38th parallel, it must be cold all the time right?

Sup, /trv/? American whose been living on the continent for a few years here. I'm visiting london for the first time soon and I'm trying to get a full English breakfast so I can break out of the cycle of pastries and cigarettes and shit for breakfast. Is the full english breakfast something that actually exists? and how do i get a "good" one without being ripped off, eating next to a bunch of german tourists or something?

Haven't had any motivation for the past 6 months to continue studying engineering so I'm going leaving Montreal in April. I've been feeling strange/lost lately, everything feels fake. I guess I need something new, the plan is to backpack from Dublin to Japan. I don't want to tour, I guess I want to explore the world. Anyone see that episode of Louis C.K.'s show where he goes to China? Anyway, long time lurker, but I've got a few questions. -What's the cheapest way to fly in to Europe from North America (Montreal)? -How far in advance would you recommend booking your hostel? -I've got 6000$ saved up, expecting to pay around 1200$ for my plane ticket there and back, so how long can I stay in Europe with 4800$? I really don't want to spend much money visiting museums, I just want to visit towns and meet people. -Anyone do a similar trip? How did you prepare for it and what advice would you give someone about to go on this journey? -I speak french and english fluently, which languages would you recommend learning the basics of? Thanks /trv/

So this summer I want to take a month off work a cycle the entire southern coast of the UK. But I'm kind of lost figuring out the details. I know the route I will follow. I planned to carry a decent 1 man tent to sleep in. And as for food/water I was going to save up some money so I could eat and drink from shops as I passed through towns. I would also have an emergency fund incase of really bad weather so I could stay in a hotel or something. Does that sound like it could work? Never planned anything big like this before. And the details I cant work out. Washing? Power for phone/ipod? Other little things that are probably completely out of my mind? Seems finding info on this kind of stuff is really hard. Ideally I'd like to blog the entire thing with a handheld camera, maybe see if I can raise some money for charity doing it.

I've got 109215 QANTAS frequent flyer miles. Fiancee said I could use them for myself in the store if I want. https://store.qantas.com/Catalogue.a2?ProductCategoryId=14459 Having a look at the 'experiences'. Anything here anyone would recommend? I skydive frequently so anything other than that to be honest. Not afraid of heights or anything I can't see anything that is a no-go. Anyone recommend any of these? I'm on the Gold Coast in Australia (QLD) but will be visiting Melbourne, Sydney, London, Vienna and Dubai in the next 12-18 months. >also, I can do things valued up to about 150-160k points if I pay the difference, prices are extortionate but I have lots of money

I want out of where I live. I need perspective, simply put, is it my environment, or is it me? What better way than getting far away from everyone you've ever known? I plan on taking a flight from Ohio to either Arizona or California. The problems I'm facing right now - >money. how much will i need? should I look for a part time job out there? I plan on staying at least a month or three. >booking flights I know fuck all about flying. What's going to be a good deal for me? >places to stay I'd imagine hotel hopping for a couple months is a pretty shitty thing to do financially. and many more that I can't think of right now. any help would be much appreciated. captcha >isagrim very

Why are ESL teachers so despised? Work abroad as a businessman or engineer? Cool, nobody cares. Work abroad as an English teacher? OMFG YOU LOSER YOU ARE JUST THERE FOR PUSSY I KNOW IT CANT YOU GET LAID AT HOME U GOT YELLOW FEVER KILL YOURSELF ANIME LOVING FAGGOT The fact that people get so emotional over it, indicates butthurt. Does it come from envy? I guess I can understand. These guys are coming out college, easily picking up an ESL jobs in Asia. They're getting decent money, getting laid, having good social lives, and living a dream without really having to work for it. All while their peers are "settling down" and working cubicle jobs back home. Within the ESL community there are haters too, teachers looking to place themselves above the rest "I"m not a loser but everyone else is" or "I'm a good teacher but the rest suck". Anyway, haters gonna hate.

I'm a canadian college student who's interested in importing nootropics for personal use, and sometimes packages are seized but in general things go by smoothly since the substance I want has no DIN and is technically ok to import. I usually cross the US border and those of a couple other countries once a year as well. If one of my orders is seized by customs does anyone know if an agent would see that when I'm trying to enter the US or another country?

Chile and Argentina

I've been traveling for the past month in Chile and Argentina. So far I've hit up Tierra del Fuego, Torres del Paine, and Monte Fitz Roy. I have about a month and a half left, and I'm thinking about going to the Lakes District (Nahuel Hupai on the Argentine side and some hot springs on the Chilean side), then the Atacama desert, Easter Island, and Iguazu Falls. Has anybody else traveled for a while in the region? Do you know of any better places to go?
