I want to travel...see the world or at least fly around the US. I've heard about churning credit cards for mileage points. How can I learn to do this? I wanna be able to work my ass off for a couple of months and then be able to fly somewhere for a couple of days.

I am going to the USA soon for 5 days and am currently filling in the Nonimmigrant Visa Application (DS-160). I stumbled upon this question and I have no idea what to type in "ARRIVAL FLIGHT" and "DEPARTURE FLIGHT". Am I supposed to type in the flight number? City I'm arriving / departuring from? The date I'm arriving / leaving? Thanks.

Hey /trv/ I just bought a one way ticket to Denver for the April 17th. My brother finishes his military contract the day before so he's driving from NM, picking me up, we're spending a day in Colorado and then driving from CO to Boston, where we live. We plan on leaving early Friday and making it back late Sunday. We want to stop in a few big cities, eat some good food, and enjoy the sights. I mapped out this route, what's /trv/'s opinion? Any places you think are a must see? Any food on the way I'd be an idiot to miss out on? Thanks!

Home from cross-country road trip

Home from cross-country road... 3 posts and 0 image replies omitted. Click to view.
Me and two buddies drove from WV to San Diego, CA. Spent some days there, drove home. It was my first big trip. Now I want more. I learned some lessons, and I wanna do it better next time. First thing I was thinking about was getting a van. Most of the cash we spent was on rooms. We took food with us, so that wasn't an issue, and the car was good on gas. A van won't be so good on gas, but it will essentially make motels and such obsolete. So my question is, what are some good vans that I can get relatively cheap, that would be good for more cross-country type journeys?

Oh Canada

So /trv/ I have a question. In the next 6-12 months I will be moving to Canada to study for the next 3 years. I have a choice of going to Toronto or Vancouver. The only things I have "properly" been able to glean from the internet are that Toronto gets cold as fuck and that Vancouver is expensive and crime-ridden. Can you tell me anything else than these "facts" to help me make up my mind?

Hello, travelers. I'll be going to Macedonia and north Greece this summer and I was wondering if there were any Greeks or Macedonians on /trv/. What's worth seeing? What's worth doing in that area? Any books you recommend reading before I go there? I was thinking this might be a good time to read the Odyssey since this is Greece and what not. Any comments are much obliged.

My parents are getting up their years, and I want to treat them to a vacation to anywhere in the world they choose, but they won't seem to budge. Any ideas how can I convince them? I made it clear in my offer to pay *all* of their expenses, and that's when my Mom was open to the idea, but my Dad still grumps at the idea of having to sit on an airplane for up to ten or more hours. Or is this more of an /adv/ question? I don't think anyone there has any experience with the situation of convincing friends and family to travel, though... it's mostly relationshit threads.

/trv/, I just accepted a job offer to work at the Kennedy Space Center this summer, starting in late may. I'd have to temporarily move to the area for 3-4 months while working there, but I know very little about the surrounding communities (Merritt island, Titusville, etc.) Any central Florida anons want to shed light on this area/housing opportunities? Things I should know? Places to avoid? Great places to eat? pic related; one of the facilities I'll be involved with
I've been hitchhiking... 22 posts and 0 image replies omitted. Click to view.
I've been hitchhiking this last week. The plan was from New Orleans to New York. I've made it as far as Jacksonville, Florida and I've decided I'm going to take busses the rest of the way. Hitchhiking is not fun. It's not romantic. It's one of the hardest things I've done in my life. Hours and hours of fear and boredom punctuated by moments of complete exhilaration. Sitting at an onramp for 4 hours before getting a 30 mile ride to another dead on ramp. Most rides are old guys wanting sex. Attitude is everything. At some point you will want to give up. You're sitting at an onramp that has had 1 car in the last 15 minutes. You're staring at miles and miles of Alabama farmland and a storm is coming in. You do everything you can not to crawl into a ball and start crying because there's nothing you can do. And as soon as you lose hope and stop putting your thumb out, you're fucked. You never even experience the places you're at. Your entire time is devoted towards getting to the edge of town and finding the magic on ramp. If you ever try to hitchhike, do it with someone else. It's both safer and 100x more fun. The only parts of this trip I've enjoyed are when I've been with other travelers. Don't do it in the South. The attitudes towards perceived vagabonds is unsurprisingly hostile. And don't expect romanticism, fun or anything good. Pic related, how I end up sleeping every night if it's not raining. If it is I sit in a Waffle House all night

make a case for SE Asia

make a case for SE Asia 22 posts and 0 image replies omitted. Click to view.
I'm in a position to visit southeast Asia right now. I'm considering making the trip out of sheer boredom right now, but I can't say I find it appealing. My impression of the region is of a big, polluted and rapidly diminishing rainforest filled with uncultured gooks, sex tourists, pill popping Aussies and 'real travelers' who just saw the movie The Beach. The cities are filthy and crowded and you can't see the beautiful nature through the mountains of garbage and swarms of tourists. Obviously I assume these are all false impressions, but can anyone give me a rough idea of what these countries are really like? Is there any reason to go there besides the cheap hookers and party scene? Pic unrelated
