Hey /trv/ I'm traveling to Europe in august through till, whenever I want to come home and this will be my first trip alone. Now while I'm over there should I do contiki's between my solo travels? I like my freedom and would rather be able to pack up and move countries whenever I like so I ruled out the longer contiki's, but I feel as if the smaller ones would still be alright to join in on. So anyone had any experience with these or would you suggest just do the entire trip solo? Link is one of the ones I've been looking into. http://www.contiki.com/destinations/europe/tours/241-scandinavia-end-stockholm

Going on my first international flight with a layover in a third country. The only other international flights I have been on were from china and to the US direct (and vice versa) and on those flights you had to pick up luggage as soon as you landed and then check it through to your final stop. So my question is: >JFK>ROM >layover in Moscow >will my bags be checked from moscow to rome, or will I need to go get them and check them myself? Picture is Grozny during one of the Chechen wars if anyone is curious.

should I book accommodation ahead for cambodia, vietnam etc. when travelling in July/August if I want good double rooms with A/C etc. for a decent price, say under £10 pp? I'd rather have the freedom of booking only a couple of days in advance but I'm concerned that if I'm picky like that nothing will be available.

I keep reading about the gypsy golden ring scam in Paris, about how you must look out for unusually beautiful females hitting on you in Prague and about how there is a blacklist of bars in Riga by the UK embassy. What about the States? Are there any more or less common scams I should be aware of before traveling anywhere there?

Why do chinese people travel,... 19 posts and 1 image replies omitted. Click to view.
Why do chinese people travel, especially in western europe? What do they get out of it, beyond just proving their nouveau rich status to other chinese people in their homeland? >actively seek out chinese restaurants and refuse to eat regional food >only speak chinese and limited english and make no effort to learn other languages >have no shared culture with europe and it is certainly not a part of their heritage like it is for americans/canadians/australians >never dtf and are only interested in hanging out with other chinese at hostels >only interested in visiting most touristed destinations and are happy to snap one picture in front of mona lisa then get the fuck out of wherever they are >loud and generally disrespectful of local culture Also inb4 sjws, who say i'm racist because i'm not. Also I'm obviously not talking about chinese people that have been westernized and grew up in western nations, I'm talking about chinese people who flew straight out of beijing or whatever other shit city they come from.

How many of you live in the country you were born in? Do you plan to move elsewhere? I've lived in England all my life and am seriously thinking about moving abroad. I'm 28, single and a Mechanical Engineer. In 18 months I'll have saved around £25k which is enough either to emigrate with change or get a mortgage on a house.

Alright can some Eurobros help me out here? I need to know what kind of money I'm going to need to get to Paris, France. I'm currently in Orlando, Florida. I need to know the cheapest flight plans as well as accommodations for a few days. I will be going to Paris and staying for maybe a couple of days, then going to Aubagne in southern France. This is a one-way trip by the way.

After reading the entire "worst hostel experience" thread >>819824 I thought I'd post my thoughts. What the fuck? After hyping myself up to finally travel after I graduate from college this semester, after planning out a 7 month trip beginning this December by busing through southern states, backpacking around Europe, visiting Asia, hitting Australia & New Zealand & saving a shit ton of money by staying at hostels, I'm somewhat discouraged from my former plans. Are hostels really that bad? I always had the impression that, yeah, while they are shitty, at least you get to meet a ton of cool, younger people from around the world that you can connect with and party with for however many days you plan on staying in the city. Or am I just a naive amerifag who is ignorant to the true inconveniences of traveling & staying at hostels, where most of the people are dicks (apparently especially if they are french), most people want to be left alone & the beds really do smell like piss? I mean, shit, to those of you who have traveled & stayed at hostels, did you have an overall good experience? Were there any good memories of staying at hostels? Did you guys meet any interesting people at these hostels?

Three friends and I are planning a road trip from Salinas down to San Diego along the Pacific Coast. What are some of your favorite stops along the way? Not too interested in tourist trappy things. We're pretty broke so free stuff is preferred. Things like natural landmarks and architectural landmarks as well as some cheap spots are what we're looking for.

I'm planning to do ESL in China next year (I'm graduating from college with a minor in Chinese, so I figure I may as well put it to use. I'd like to work as a translator eventually, so I figure that a few years of actually picking up linguistic nuances will be good for that). I've been researching how to get jobs, and a lot of the contract stuff looks kind of sketchy. Unfortunately it seems that there's no equivalent to Japan's JET program, and you kind of have to hook yourself up. I keep seeing that you can hire an agent to help you, but apparently that can be sketchy? Does anyone here have any experience with mainland China? Any advice on what city to live in? Obviously I'm researching through a variety of sources, but /trv/ tends to have a few folks who know a a thing or two.

Hello my friends I have a question What's the best way of dealing with midges/mosquitos in the Scottish highlands while trekking & camping? I've backpacked through Wales & the Lake District last year and I had a lot of trouble with these annoying little pests, and I heard it's even worse in Scotland. Any tips?

When did this become a normal... 1 posts and 0 image replies omitted. Click to view.
When did this become a normal thing? I haven't flown out of the country in 4 years and suddenly booking feels a lot different. Less price differentials, and a lot more of this "book the flight before you know what quality you're getting to get a 50$ cheaper fare." And it seems like no travel website ever does the "If the price drops we'll refund the difference and rebook your ticket." Back then I remember being able to get a good 200$ chunk off from Travelocity because of tickets to Japan diving in price. Is there some secret new or better way to find better airfare deals now?
