So, Croatia.Anyone been there?... 0 posts and 0 image replies omitted. Click to view.
So, Croatia. Anyone been there? If I were to travel to only one European country, would Croatia be a good choice? How well could I get around using only English? I also know some Bulgarian and could use that as a foundation to start building off of, but I'd like a backup just in case my speech is awful. Any other advice for someone who's never left the US before and would likely be traveling alone?

Is $247 cheap for roundtrip flight from Florida to Texas? I don't often fly and I found a ticket for a major airline at this price.

Hey /trv/. Is it worth going to a city like LA or New york alone, tickets to both places are 315 to 400 bucks. One airline is spirit for LA and the other is united for New York. I'm 18 so it would be by myself and I don't know anyone in those two cities, both cost the same to get there and I would be there for a week. Is it worth it to go alone or should I convince a friend to join in or should I just stay in Minneapolis(city I'm flying out of)? Also which place is better for tourism, Los Angeles or New York City? I also have the option of flying into Tampa on United for 334 dollars and I have a place to stay at an old friends house. Which one is the best?

Sup /trv/, I am sick and fucking tired of Obama, gun control, socialism, and the fact the US economy is imploding faster than an atom bomb going critical. Drives me mental just waking up and thinking about it. I'm thinkin of throwing my shit into a dufflebag, driving my truck out somewhere rural, and just living out in the woods. How can I get off the grid in this day and age? What do I gotta worry about? Any tips? About me >be 18 >Canadian >good outdoor knowledge, camping etc

Another TESL thread about China

Another TESL thread about... 3 posts and 0 image replies omitted. Click to view.
Hello /trv/, time for another fucking TESL thread. Uninterested parties moved on? Good. I have a couple of questions: -Has anyone ever done TESL in China and what are the experiences like? -Did you do it through a recruiting company or did you contact schools yourself? I've looked into TESL recruitment and have been offered jobs in China but I'm wary about the prospect since it's through an agency, a legit looking agency and I've been contacted by a few of their reps regarding work. They're already thinking of placing me but I need to ask; Does it sound too good to be true or am I just going to be scammed and left on the street?

Hello /trv/. I'm considering traveling for an indefinite period. I have no prior experience with traveling or foreign languages and am looking for advice, tips and any useful information that might help me out. I should be starting out with around £5000 and will mainly be remaining in Europe, although I'm not ruling out the possibility of visiting Asia or the Americas. Thanks in advance. :)

I'm planning to do ESL in China next year (I'm graduating from college with a minor in Chinese, so I figure I may as well put it to use. I'd like to work as a translator eventually, so I figure that a few years of actually picking up linguistic nuances will be good for that). I've been researching how to get jobs, and a lot of the contract stuff looks kind of sketchy. Unfortunately it seems that there's no equivalent to Japan's JET program, and you kind of have to hook yourself up. I keep seeing that you can hire an agent to help you, but apparently that can be sketchy? Does anyone here have any experience with mainland China? Any advice on what city to live in? Obviously I'm researching through a variety of sources, but /trv/ tends to have a few folks who know a a thing or two.

Hello my friends I have a question What's the best way of dealing with midges/mosquitos in the Scottish highlands while trekking & camping? I've backpacked through Wales & the Lake District last year and I had a lot of trouble with these annoying little pests, and I heard it's even worse in Scotland. Any tips?
When did this become a normal... 1 posts and 0 image replies omitted. Click to view.
When did this become a normal thing? I haven't flown out of the country in 4 years and suddenly booking feels a lot different. Less price differentials, and a lot more of this "book the flight before you know what quality you're getting to get a 50$ cheaper fare." And it seems like no travel website ever does the "If the price drops we'll refund the difference and rebook your ticket." Back then I remember being able to get a good 200$ chunk off from Travelocity because of tickets to Japan diving in price. Is there some secret new or better way to find better airfare deals now?

Not sure if this is better suited for here or /int/ but whatever I'm planning to spend a few days in Prague this coming week. I'm not sure if there is any turmoil or risk of happenings while I'm in the Czech Republic (I don't pay attention much to the news). Is there anything I should know? Should I plan to travel somewhere else (wanted to hit Prague since I'll be coming in from Berlin)?

What do you usually learn when planning to travel for a long while in one country? Do you try to learn the full language in advance, some standard phrases or do you just try to communicate mostly in broken English? I want to travel around in China, but Chinese seems so daunting I'm not sure studying will even help me. I fear I will have a hard time getting by.

Hello /trv/ I am visiting LA at the end of March for a week with a few friends. We are from Switzerland, and none of us have previously visited. The only time I have been in America was NYC when I was a young kid. So I am wondering what are the highlight events there are to do in the city, or anywhere close by because we will rent a car. We like shopping, and nightlife, but please recommend anywhere of value to visit during the day. Any city landmarks, or must do activities. We want to go surfing, but don't have previous experience, is it difficult to rent a board and try without lessons? Many thanks.

"Lad" holidays

"Lad" holidays 4 posts and 0 image replies omitted. Click to view.
A bit low-brow for a board like this, but have you ever been on one? Went to Magaluf with my friends last year, we figured if we were going on a "lad" holiday, we might as well jump in the deep end. Ended up really enjoying the wanton debauchery of it all, it's certainly not culturally enriching, but there's something about being drunk for a straight week I'm looking forward to doing again.

This is a shot in the dark, but what is a good, exotic, beautiful and CHEAP place to travel to? Preferably in a warm climate I'm an ameriburger, if that matters.

Hey /trv/. I'm pretty much set on eventually traveling to North Korea some day (hopefully soon). However, I am an American citizen, and it seems that at this point (according to the DPRK website), American passports are not being accepted. Is that the case, or has the website not been updated recently? I ask only because I've seen so many youtube videos of Americans from 2012-2013 in N. Korea. Now, I also have an Egyptian passport, but I speak no Arabic, and I'm as white as I can possibly be (my grandparents are turkish egyptian, but my irish heritage completely out ways that when it comes to skin color). Furthermore, one of my grandfathers fought in the Korean war...I feel like using the second passport would be seen as a spy attempt. What do you think? Anywho, thanks for the responses.
