Hi I'd like to bus it... 7 posts and 0 image replies omitted. Click to view.
Hi I'd like to bus it down from Los Angeles to possibly Panama as my last stop. I'd stop in a few countries for a few days then move on by bus. Which countries should I definitely see? Which should I skip. If I were to spend 3 days in each of those countries what kind of budget would I probably need including bus fare. Is Tica bus and the other big names my only options? I searched online and the price is ridiculously high, 130 dollars to cross two countries. I had a short trip last year and a bus trip from San Juan del Sur Nicarauga to San Jose, Costa Rica was only 8 dollars. I don't remember the name but it wasn't a chicken bus. Any advice or things I should know really appreciated but right now i'm mostly wondering out what my budget should be. also debating if I should fly back or bus since I'll be in a lot of buses

So im a disabled vet. I spend a majority of my time at home. I am not able to travel alot or really leave much. I hate where Im currently living (Oklahoma). Im looking to move somewhere new. My annual income is $45,600. I have no debt. I have a house I am paying on currently but can refinance and rent it to get it out from my VA loan. I have a car and pay about $450 a month for it. The rest of my income is free. Im looking for a place where I can live next to a lake or a river. I love a water view and find it calming. Id like to have access to nature for hiking and I enjoy your basic outdoorsy activities. Id also like it to be fairly close to a social area. I dont want to live in a huge bussling busy city that takes an hour to get somewhere interesting, or take trains all over the place. But I dont mind driving 15-20 mins to get to good entertainment. An active social life... a beach, clubs, groups, social activites, ect. So just touching on this info, does a location jump out at any of you? Any ideas on places I could check into living? Im 33, and not wanting to hang with retired folks, and too old to tolerate the hippie college kids in boulder or something (it was on my list to check into, homes start at $500k). Any input or advice from seasoned travelers would be most welcome, and thank you ahead of time.

Claiming travel insurance on theft

Can anyone advise me how to get my insurance to pay for something I left in a public place? My policy says I'm not covered for theft of unattended items. I had a $300 sleeping bag snatched from the bunk room of a Dept of Conservation hut in New Zealand. That counts as a public place, right? Anything I should say in my statement that would make it sound less like my fault?

Hi /trvlers, I'm currently planning a trip to go to Scotland, probably going by boat (from Holland) to take my car. I've been looking around the web, but noone knows a place better than the people who've been there. Therefor my question to you is: What should I, by all means, NOT forget to do while I'm there. (obvious answers welcome) Will be going around july/aug this year, with 3 friends.

I'm considering vacationing to Nepal next summer, see the mountains and the temples. I'm on a site that's pretty much a mixer for people from different countries to talk, like a less douche-bag facebook. Tldr; I'm getting offers from people to stay with them when I come. I know that some foreigners are genuinely nice and a lot more generous than most westerners, but there are some who will scam and steal. What do you guys think?

What are some U.S. cities that aren't pussified? New York (sans a few boroughs) is a remnant of what it was in the 80's. Los Angeles was never that bad but it's turned into a hipster paradise since the early 90's. What are some cities that are rough and tumble? Like New York was in the 70's/80's? You know, Scorese's New York.

Hi, a friend and I have gotten into some circumstances where we'll both be in Albuquerque for two weeks. End of July to early August. I don't know much about the city and I was wondering what some must-do things are and some general fun stuff to do to pass the time. Any advice?

Hi /trv/, I have the opportunity to go to Japan in a few weeks time and I was wondering if you had any recommendations for where to go. An anon from /vp/ recommended Miyajima island off the coast from Hiroshima as somewhere that's nice. I'm more looking towards the classical architecture side, like tatami rooms and shinto temples and those fancy dragon gates, rather than the more touristy areas, if that's at all possible. Are there any places you'd recommend? If possible, they could be Pokemon themed, as I'm a huge fan.

So, my boyfriend and I (from Australia) are travelling to the UK and various other places at the end of August and we're thinking about eloping and getting married in Scotland. Does anyone have any recommendations on where to get married in Scotland? We're just thinking of going to a registry office and signing the papers - nothing special - and getting two randoms to be our witnesses.

I am off to NYC in August - is there anything people would recommend I do that may not be the ordinary touristy type of stuff? I will still do all of that too, I'm just looking for something different. Also, any recommendations on hotels that are from £700-950 for 6 days with great access to the city would be great.

In the States, how do I get to the city I need by train? Suppose I needed to get to Annapolis from New Orleans. I can only get as close as DC or Baltimore by the Amtrack station. What do I do for the 30 miles left over?

What does /trv/ think of 4chan itself? Would you browse /trv/ or a 4chan safeboard in a hostel openly? Would you mention advice you got from "the travel board on 4chan" or meet up with someone from /trv/ and then tell others?

Hey /trv/, I'm going backpacking around central and northern Europe for a month and a half. This is my first time traveling with only a backpack, what are some essentials I should pack? Any advice for a first time backpacker? I've searched around and I'll list some basics I've picked up. I'd love to hear what some seasoned travelers have to say. -don't bring jeans, they're heavy and take a while to dry -in general, synthetics are preferable to wear as they're lighter, durable, and dry quickly. -carry a lightweight jacket or sweater -bring gallon sized plastic bags for storing food, dirty clothes, and anything that needs cleaning. I see a lot of sites that swear by money belts, but it seems to me that they're so popular that any thief worth his salt would check for them. I'm more inclined to just keep my spare cash under the soles in my shoes, or sewn in to a jacket. Some information about the trip: Traveling with one other person. We will be staying in hostels the entire trip, and don't intend to eat out at restaurants often, if at all. We will be taking the eurorail to move around the continent. I leave in a few days, so I don't really have time to ship anything.
