So, I recently started playing this (with Aleph One). Never even played the later bungie games. I heard about Marathon when I was browsing the countless abandonware-pages in the 2000s and it really interested me, but I actually never got around to playing the game. So far I think it's fun, though I think it's quite different from Doom and the likes cause it really puts the emphasis on scifi/horror/tension rather than being a fast paced slaughterfest. What's the general opinion about the game?

I'm curious, did the JP classic sonic games always have slightly different sounds and music? Or does it depend on what system those games are running on? Picture Related

Does anyone know of any games that are like the original Legend of Zelda (besides other Zelda games, obviously). In a sense where you're just in this vast, vague, open, non-linear world where there's little information/interaction about the world throughout the entire game, yet still having cool things to do within it. I guess it doesn't have to be retro, but since I'm asking about a retro game, I thought I might as well post this here. It doesn't have to be the same genre necessarily either.

Quest 64

Pros: >Decent magic and combat system >Good music and bizarre dungeons >Enemy models almost never reused Cons: >Awful, awful writing >Forgettable characters >Obviously unfinished areas all over >Took only 8:30 to beat I replayed this since I could never beat it when it came out. I'm sort of disappointed in ten year old me for being so incompetent. While fun to play, I don't think I would have enjoyed it if it didn't have nostalgic value. I did like the combat system, the movement and positioning aspect reminds me of Skies of Arcadia or Chrono Trigger a bit but with the additional ability to dodge attacks by moving. It could have been a really good game if it had a bit more polish, but evens out to mediocre due to it's flaws. I'd give it a solid 6.5/10. What do you guys think?

Co-Op Bud

Hey /vr/! I'm looking for someone to play co-op games online with. I came here because it seems like the maturity's a bit higher than /v/ and I'm into tackling older games as well as new ones which you guys seem to be into. I'm a pretty normal guy so all I ask is that you're not too socially incompetent, into furry/ponies or some other extreme unhealthy fandom. I really want to play Lost Planet 2 first because I've seen a lot of accounts that the co-op is excellent, but I'm up for suggestions and I like most genres. I'm also OK with playing with your gaming group if you've got one so hit me up, e-mail's in the box. Thanks for reading!

What does /vr/ think about the King's Field series. Being a big fan of Dark Souls, I tried KF3 a bit and seemed fun.

What are some commonly overlooked arcade games? I'm not talking stuff that the average person probably doesn't know, like Space Harrier, but the really overlooked ones that someone who was sifting through every MAME rom wouldn't initially think was worthy of a try. I know I probably skipped something good when in the process of deleting the hundreds of quiz and mahjong games.

>start thread about good things, fun experiences to counter all the hate and rage on /vr/ > /vr/ being one of the slowest boards >wake up not even 6 hours later >thread gone Do you guys just hate fun? Did someone shit up the thread? I've never seen a thread just slide through the catalogue and be gone that fast. I refuse to believe you guys hate FUN.

Collecting

Is it okay to stop collecting? I started collecting only Nintendo, but now I collect sega and ps too. First goal was to only get 10 great games for each machine. Now I have it but I still have the urge to keep collecting. I started collecting castlevania games and contra games and the list goes on. I'm considering getting 10 controllers only for playing saturn bomberman(I got 5 so far). Even though the urge is still there, I often go into periods thinking "why do I keep collecting this shit. I will never Finish half of these games so what's the point? I only play the multiplayer games when buds be over, and that's only 15+ games. What about the 300 other games?" Please share me your views anons.

Cleaning General

>seller lists new >Buy It Now >receive it >grime in between buttons, in seams >brown scuffmarks on the back >cord smells like old cigarette smoke, yet has a sweet aroma beneath it >clean it >take it apart, use isopropyl alcohol 91% >controller lots better >seller doesn't respond to case What do? What else should I do to clean my controller? Is there a solution I should dunk the two halves in after taking it apart?

First of all, Pyra is one sassy elf mage who I'd totally explore her labyrinth. Second of all, anyone like this game? Been playing it for the first time and it does have a fuckton of grinding.

Does the cart or system dictate clock speed? Or both? Will a PAL Mega Drive game run at 50 or 60hz on a NTSC Genesis? I'm filling holes in my Genesis/Master System collections, and I'm looking at the import stuff now, is it worth buying a new system [japanese MS/MD] and will PAL exclusives run any better on an NTSC machine? I don't mind if the PAL exclusives all run at 50hz or if I can get japanese versions that are better or something. I'm just trying to build a definitive collection. I want a big library, but I don't want to pick up inferior versions. Any thoughts /vr/? I mean besides emulation? Because whilst that will probably be easier I have that mental disorder that means I like to collect things.

Nintendo or Sega?

Sega Saturn

I recently got my hands on a Sega Saturn. Good price, too. Sadly the place I got it from have an outright laughable Library of games for the system. So I ask you, fabulous folk of /vr/, what games should I get? Besides that of the few Sonics, NiGHTS, Clockwork Knight, and Fighting Vipers.

State of the PSIO project

Anyone heard anything about the PSIO project? I didn't hear about donors getting their prototypes or anything. Has the project died? For those who don't know about PSIO (ripped from their website): "PSIO is a cartridge that plug's into the back of your PlayStation 1 console, which will let you play your backed up PlayStation 1 games from an SD card. It will also allow you to boot and run code you have programmed from an SD card on the actual PlayStation 1 console itself, making it a must have tool for homebrewers, developers and most importantly, gamers."
