Revisiting hard games

>emulate both SNES and Genesis versions >ass gets kicked in first fight >opponent spams fast punch and counters my every move Holy fuck, I don't remember this game being so difficult until Shao Kahn. I literally can't move past the first match and I feel like a scrub. Have you ever revisited a game and found it harder than you remember?

I saw Shinya Arino at a Used Game Store in Tokyo yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet the Kachou in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask for photos or anything. He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?” I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Eh?” but he kept cutting me off and going, “Eh? Eh? Eh?” and raising his arm over his head in victory. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Famicoms in his hands without paying. The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like, “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter. When she took one of the Famicoms and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually, “To prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each console and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yelling "ABUNAI!" really loudly.

Alright, I'm gonna emulate some N64 games but I only have PlayStation and Xbox 360 controllers. Are ALL four of the C-buttons required or do most games ignore them? Could I get away with mapping B and A to the 360 pad, then using X and Y as C-left and C-up respectively? I know Ocarina uses C-up to change views.

A thread for licensed games. Let's talk about which ones you liked. Good or bad. Just share your love and your experience. Picture related for me. Close second would be Konami's TMNT games.

Since the majority of us have 15-20+ years of gaming experience under our belts, I pose a challenge. Prove to me you can tell the difference between "casualized" and "streamlined", and "hardcore" and "bad game design"

Pathfinder Thread >Mission is to kill Mercenary Leader >Have hat of disguise >Long story short mercenary grunt hunting us >Use hat of disguise to change into grunt >He knocks at the door >I Answer dressed as him >"I am you, from the future. You need to kill Mercenary Leader tonight or he will cut your dick off" >Natural 20 >Grunt walks into the camp >DM rolls natural 20 on Leader >DM rules are two Natural 20's in a row = insta Kill >Rolls another 20 >Instakills the final boss of a campaign he spent 2 weeks creating. >No longer allowed a Hat is Disguise

Planescape Torment: kind of underwhelming?

So after hearing about this game a lot, I finally bought it in a GOG sale a couple of weeks ago and just now finished it. I'm not trying to shit on anyone who loves this game, but I don't really see what the hubbub is about. The combat system is pretty dull, but it seems to be the consensus that combat isn't the point of the game. As for the story/characters/dialogue, it's not BAD, but I didn't find it all that affecting or interesting. There's all this talk of these various planes that you never get to visit and the areas you do get to visit are often very small. In terms of the characters, I thought Morte's backstory was interesting but his actual character with his endless obfuscation and flirting was kind of tiresome. Fall-From-Grace was a pleasant character but I didn't feel as though there was a ton of development for her (or the other characters). You get kind of a sense of who the characters are and what drives them, but the amount of interaction you have with them, or the amount that they interact with the world, is very limited. I got the feeling at several plot points in the game that I was supposed to have a strong connection to a character or situation, but it was just kind of underdeveloped so I didn't get much out of it. Also, this is a minor note, but the fact that like half of the women in the game (not even the whores) had huge, barely covered tits seemed kind of silly and childish. It was a little funny just because it was so over-the-top, but it was never addressed in the game, just "well, this is how it is". Anyway, was anyone else underwhelmed by this game? I think I might have liked it better if I'd played it when I was like 13, but playing it now, it doesn't seem like anything special.

Can you guys recommend some good PS1 strategy games? I like grid maps and taking turns, I already beat FFTactics.

Why don't we just call them "antiques" instead of saying "Oh, it just didn't age well."

Should "GAME OVER" really mean "return to the start of the game"?

Horror adventure

Let's have a thread for oldschool horror-mystery adventure games. I just started to play Realms of the Haunting and god damn I'm loving it! The graphics, the sounds, the full motion videos, the awesomely cheesy mid 90s vibes. I got it from some indie game bundle and I had no idea what it was about. Another game with similar atmosphere is The Legacy, which is also for MsDOS.

What are some examples of shit flying past the radar in older games? I always felt like the scene in X4 where Double kills everyone was pretty damn violent for a game rated K-A. Guess no one cares if its robot blood.

Am I the only one who prefers SoR 1 over SoR 2?
