Currently I'm just...
Anonymous 08/25/14(Mon)19:42 UTC+1 No.437867 Report

Currently I'm just modeling around for practice. Right now I'm making this cartoon palm tree, not based on any tutorial (I know the texturing is shit, I'm working on my drawing skills).

The leaves are separate elements from the stem.

What I want to do is add a bend modifier, and possibly a taper modifier, to make endless variations of the same tree.

The problem is that the stem and the leaves have different materials.

I can link the leaves to the stem so that they follow move, rotation and scale modifications, but they won't follow the bend modifier if I add one.

I can't attach the leaf elements to the stem element, as this will screw up the stem's UV mapping.

I can't add an edit poly after the Unwrap UVW modifier, and then add a bend modifier, because when I do, the leaves disappear when I try to attach them.

The program is 3DS Max 2013.

Help would be appreciated.

You may try to use ffd modifier

Btw, when you can easily attach them to each other, but select different elements and apply to them different materials. So if you'll do this you'll make two uvw channels in one object.

How is that going to work? Isn't that for kinda sculpting a model with a number of points?

But I can't select the separate elements to attach different materials after I've applied the modifiers. The selection gets sort of frozen unless I go down to edit poly again and ruin the stack and go back to start.

Figured out how to do it.

If anyone wonders, I linked a helper to a face on top of the tree with Motion -> Attachment, and linked the leaves to that.

Damn, it was actually Crash Bandicoot I was aiming for with my limited drawing skills. Thanks, man.
