What did I do wrong? My first model. 08/30/14(Sat)20:48 UTC+1 No.438662 Report

Just finished my first real model, apart from the shitty renders what are the models flaws?

there should be a place for your thumb on the first valve slide to kick it out for tuning and the leadpipe closest to the bell should be more round and less square

Mouth piece should be silver, not gold.

there are gold mouth pieces but I think it would look more distinct if it were silver.

OP consider the trim on the valves silver as well.

Looks good but the mouthpiece is really off. It looks like the mouthpiece of another brass instrument. Look up pictures of trumpet mouthpieces.

At the end of the bell there is a thicker ring.

mouth piece needs to be longer.

fixed mouthpiece and made lower caps on valves more edgy(i guess). Gotta work on those renders tho.

Did you mean for that curve below the mouthpiece to be all weird? Are trumpets really shaped like that? My eye wants it to be a smooth, circular curve, but that might be my ignorance of trumpetmaking.
>>
Anonymous 08/31/14(Sun)22:42 UTC+1 No.438807 Report

>>438804
The curve is not only up but also away from the valves. Maybe that's why it appears weird to you. But yeah maybe it's just my shitty moddeling.

no I'm talking about this curve

nah It's definitely not a perfect circular shape.

Well it is in this picture: >>438761
Maybe you just need to buy a less shit trumpet to use as a reference

>HDR back ground
>Don't use any of that ray tracing shit for stills
It will look at least 50% better.

And you didn't tell him the most important rule.
Work on a good metal shader.

If he isn't that good with rendering I would assume he isn't that good with shader work.

I simple glossy shader with very little roughness should be suffice, right?

>I simple glossy shader with very little roughness should be suffice, right?

No, the most important part in getting a good final result is working on shaders.

Mental ray, cycles, vray etc.
For metal he needs to tweak fresneling, and at least add a texture for micro surface reflections in the glossy shader.

Remember to play with the different color shades of brass.
