i once asked that if i better move to 3ds max but they told me it was ok maya, also, in the carreer i'm planning to study they use maya sooo it's kind of a pickup but i'm worried no since i don't look at LDA as i did in the past, i made a thread asking if LDA is a good idea and they told me that any carreer is a fuckup these days

I learn't Lightwave in classes. From that I jumped straight into Maya.

Hands on with a person to teach you tricks and to tell you what you are doing wrong will give a better result.

Quit your job and put a year aside to do a class.

imo

10$ per hour via paypal, the first lesson is free so you can decide if it's worth it.

Don't let this guy fug you OP.

Don't start learning maya from a tutor or whatever until you know what you're doing or else you're going to wind up wasting your money.

Learn from youtube, there is a wealth of knowledge on there.

Yes, it is possible to learn alone, of course. This is true for most subjects.
Anyway, some people prefer to be followed by an instructor who can solve their doubts right away and set learning priorities in a way that makes sense.
It comes down to personal preference I guess.

Ehhhh i don't know how i'm gonna do it anyways, guess that i might not get to do something "orgasmic" in it until i enter the carreer (that is if i actually go for LDA), for now i'll try books, i borrowed this one, don''t know if it values the pain counting that it covered maya 2009 but guess it's better than nothing

depends what you want to do? I learnt the basics at school and found tricks and stuff on youtube.
I think it's pretty easy to find the basics on youtube as well.

There have been 5 new versions of Maya since 2009... You would be hampering yourself a lot learning with that. Make a damn CGPeers account and download some more recent Maya tutorials. Watch tutorials on how to make characters and stuff and it will teach you the skill you need along the way.

Semi related.
Is the cgcookie 'mastering modeling in blender' workshop good?
Current experience is less then a week, it looks like it would give a solid foundation.
Thought u would ask around before I drop money on it.
