Hello /adv/,

I need some advice about whether to declare bankruptcy in the near future. Basically, long story short, I am 9k in debt. Ever since I was laid off when my company shut down in July 2013, I have only been employed sporadically with seasonal work. I was forced to move back home and have been dipping into my savings. Things aren't looking very good for jobs despite applying for many different positions and having some interviews. I have about 5 months worth of savings left. If things don't look up soon, should I declare bankruptcy? I realize that it has a negative effect for up to 7 years, but I am gonna be fucked by year's end or early next year even if I get some temporary work.

$9k is not a massive, crippling amount of debt, OP. Bankruptcy sticks with you for life. Just stick it out.

You wouldn't be able to meet the standard that stipulates that you have no reasonable expectation of being able to to pay the debt in the future. You'd fail, if paying it off is the be all end all, just get a shit job managing a fast food place for a year and knock it out.

Hell, I'm 30k in student loan debt, and I'm working for a year and paying it off then. You can do this.

Problem is, with how things are going, it's a matter of time before I cannot even make minimum payments. Then I will be well and truly fucked. I have applied to hundreds of jobs, but its just been a couple 3 month seasonal jobs. Any job seeking benefits ran out months ago. Temp work will provide me a few hundred bucks for a few months before there aren't jobs avaliable for months. I know because I have done it before. Another issue is that I only qualify for unskilled work, so it doesn't even pay well and to boot, there are hundreds of other people ahead of me for work.

I should add, I would work a shitty fast food job, if someone would fucking call me back.
