Only reason why I train is for practical, functional and realistic defense and combat. Reason why I train a shit ton is fitness, fun and everything else.

Thought MMA was the measure of the best "style" unarmed one vs. one.
Sweet so I train boxing and judo and other arts that are proven 70% of the time.

>Why doesn't anyone train the hand gun?
>Why doesn't anyone train melee/knife?

Most people train for only "Self defense". Yet stick with only unarmed martial arts and never add on.

Imma just get a gun if i feel i ever can't run away or defuse a situation

Mostly because the legal battle involving a martial artist and any kind of "self defense" "injury" would go horribly for me

it'd be more convenient, legally and HP-wise, to shoot to kill in any confrontation that requires physical force.

Ergo, Self Defense should go on /k/. It's martial arts related, but this is an /alt/sports board

Why care about it anyway? Most fights i've been in i could have talked my way out of or simply avoided them entirely. The majority of fights come from bad life choices, working on those is also a core of the martial arts.

Most people worrying about self defense too much has serious victim complex problems or paranoia

They won't even encounter a street in fight in their life due to LARPing in a Krav Maga school or Aikido dojo

>Krav Maga school

You know what ticks me off?

If those people learned boxing or kyo or some shit, they'd get a teacher who could help them deal with their problems.

but instead they listen to snake oil salesmen

Because you train for a more common encounter. You're less likely to encounter a handgun or knife in an IRL fight, so why train for it? Obviously yes it will happen in 1% of fights, but the other 99%, all you need is unarmed skill.

Likewise, if you spend all your time training gun disarms and knife fighting, wotchu gonna do in a fight that doesn't have guns or knives?

checkmate krav fagarts.

Because it is delusuional to think anything will prepare you against those weapons. It's safer to have someone unprepared and scared than unprepared but confident.

I train martial arts because it's fun and I enjoy it.

I train not being a cunt for self defense.

If you are legitimately training martial arts for self defense you either 1. need to move, 2. are a cunt, 3. are paranoid.

most styles don't train in weaponry of any type simply because it was never focused on as the students were being taught. this is mostly due to the belief that new students have no idea what they're doing and thus should be kept away from dangerous implements. this had the unfortunate side effect of students never actually learning weapons use before they became instructors. such is life unfortunately.

I consider myself lucky. I found Systema. Systema is a style in which if the class is practicing with knives on the day you first walk in, you're learning how to use a knife (both offensive and defensively). if they're training how to handle multiple opponents, you're learning how to face more than one person at a time. groundwork, covered, standup, covered, handguns... also covered. every item mentioned is also a common part of training in the system. you won't be waiting until your fifth year as a triple dragon black belt to be shown which side of a knife is pointy.

Guns beat guns.
Knifes mite be able to beat guns, same way around.
Knifes vs knifes? Depends,

Unarmed vs gun ok chance if up close
Unarmed vs knife even lower chance

Yes and no. I think any good martial art would teach you to deal with one attacker, then give you strategy for if you're jumped by three or four people. But that's different from those "demonstrations" where twelve compliant victims come at a person one at a time.
