WHERE IS PIPEBOMB?
this poll is invalid
Doesn't matter what you train, doesn't matter how many moves you know, or how big or strong you are. Doesn't matter how big or expensive that gun or knife. Nothing beats a well placed pipebomb.

Judoka here. I didn't vote, but I would choose parkour if the list had it.

And MMA doesn't contain "all the martial arts".

It combines a multitude of them, but not "all".

And as soon as you hear someone say they train MMA, you can assume it's going to be "UFC style" fighting. Not wing chun mixed with chin-na.

If an MMA fighter learned and became proficient in Chin Na and used in fighting it would still be MMA.

Yes technically he would be fighting "mixed martial arts", but when you hear someone say "i train MMA" you think of the way UFC fighters fight. Cautious in case they get taken down, not just running in and throwing haymakers like standard boxing/kickboxing fights.

Cautious, smart, intelligent. Not just full boar into the match*

>*inb4 you say there are MMArtists that go full boar in the cage right on the bell. But my point is that most of them fight intelligently and strategically. It's like human chess. You need strategy to win MMA because it's basically no holds barred (to an extent, no groin, eye gouge shots etc.) You have to be smart and use your oponents' weak points against them.

OP here, by MMA i obviously meant someone who just trains at an MMA gym. he could have any style of fighting but remember that he would probably know much more how to fight 1 on 1 than multiple opponents.
on the plus side, he would probably know a good balance for striking and grappling so he is prepared for both wild haymakers and wild schoolyard headlocking(seriously folks, never do a schoolyard headlock, it only puts you in a worse position)

what style is at all effective at fighting multiple opponents? this seems like the most bizarre criticism of MMA and the various styles that it's composed of.

Nobody is "proficient" at dealing with multiple opponents, OP.

That weaboo tripfriend said something before which I find to be very true. "The best defense against multiple opponents is to have multiple friends,"

most probably boxing https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fj2NPRhbY3c

not kicking with your legs gives you more time to back pedal and circle around to put your opponents in a line.
striking lets you not get tangled up with one opponent for more than a second

in boxing all your training is against one opponent as well though. who's to say a heavy striker like silva couldn't do the same thing? not to mention that's a blue moon of a street fight. a whole pack of glass jawed idiots coming in to get decked one at a time.

not to say it isn't impressive.

You can learn Sambo without knowing Russian. If you can't memorize the names, no beef; nobody will care about what you call a brosok, long as you can do the brosok in the first place.

I used to train with a guy from Ukraine who just translated all the names of the techniques from russian to ukrainian even when he was talking in russian or serbian. Bugged me the fuck out; but we laughed about it because a throw's a throw regardless of what you call it, and you're not gonna go and learn how to speak Japanese so you can do Judo any more than you'll learn Thailandese to do Muay Thai or Russian to do Sambo.

As for how long it'd take to learn it; it depends. If you know greek, russian has a few roots in it so you can get a fairly decent at it fairly quickly. If you don't have any roots, however, it can be much more complicated to learn -- depends on your adaptability to new languages, basically.

OP never mention 'self defense', boxing is sweet for hitting people unawares. There are neat statistics on hit and run deaths, same could be applied with any style against unreacting people but a jab is very fast.

has anyone ever been mugged by kravmaga?

Because when you're skilled at MMA and Chin Na, it's still preferable to fight MMA. If an MMA fighter was skilled in both MMA and Kung Fu and decided not to fight with boxing, wrestling and BJJ anymore and instead take a horse stance, he wouldn't be fighting "MMA" in the colloquial sense. He'd be fighting Kung Fu (and he'd also be fighting and losing to common sense)

I think the main problem is that the only places you're likely to receive good Sambo instruction are thoroughly slavic and aren't likely to speak decent English.

That's my problem anyway. I'm sure a few decent gyms exist in the US but they sure as shit don't in southern california.
