Fake Eyelid Trick
Fake Eyelid Trick Anonymous 08/31/14(Sun)21:31 UTC+1 No.7791199 Report

A lot of Asian cosplayers do the fake eyelid trick, either because the fake eyelashes hide their real eyelid, or because they have single eyelids.

I think when it's subtle, it's nice. I don't like it when it's drawn on with liquid eyeliner though. Looks too fake. What are your thoughts on it? Do you use this trick?

I draw it on because I have nonolids which are really stubborn. I've used various typed if double lidded tape and none of them hold long enough for
cons or shoots. So I have to draw them on.

Generally I do a bit of editing on photos to get them looking not as fake but drawn on will always look drawn on. Better to have the real thing when you can

I draw on fake eyelid creases even though I already have double lids because mine tend to disappear with a bit of eyeliner and in high-angle shots.

I personally think the most natural looking ones are creases drawn as an extension of one's natural eyelid crease (lines drawn on either side of natural crease to make it longer), and I'd do this myself if I had better luck with eyelid tape/glue to raise my eyelid crease a little bit.
Most of the eyelid creases in OP seem to be this type (most obvious in top right and third down on left) or just done with eyelid tape/glue without extending (topmost and bottommost on left), to me the only one that looks like it's been just drawn on is the second down on the left.

Otherwise, like >>7791378 said, it's a bit difficult to get drawn-on eyelid creases to look natural, because... well.. it's drawn on. Shading and blending helps it look less like a brown or black line across your eyelid but there's only so much it can do, you know?

I personally don't really care what approach people use to create eyelid creases as long as it looks good in photos or in person... but I live in Asia so the aesthetics here and my preferences are a bit more skewed to OTT makeup anyway, so take my opinion with a pinch of salt lol.

This kind of makeup did even exist back in the 20s in Europe, go figure.

This makeup is ugly and it looks retarded whenever the person blinks/shuts their eyes.
Just so everyone gets a fair warning.

Thing is asians do it because a lot of them lack the double lids or like me, have stubborn ones. However most anime characters do have double lids drawn. So not only is it more accurate it does give you a larger eye effect.

Ive seen it catch on since im in a more western community but You really have to consider whether you need it or not. Not just do it because other people are.

Not sure what you mean by stubborn lids, sorry. :s
Anyway, like I said in >>7792261, I'm an asian in asia, and I've noticed a number of people here doing fake eyelids regardless of whether or not they have natural double lids or not tbh, not just me. Not counting the ones who use eyelid tape to alter or create a new crease and draw or shade those to emphasise them.

>>7796344
Ugly is subjective, and how it looks with your eyes closed depends on how people draw or shade them in. If you do it as heavy/theatrical as Zeasonal's, for instance, it does look a bit funky with closed eyes; pic related.

(con't from >>7796759) My own makeup is not as OTT as someone like Zeasonal's (.. yet?) so personally I think it looks okay when my eyes are shut? Pic related, exact same makeup as bottom left in >>7792261. Apologies for the LQ and not completely closed eyes, I snagged it off a video.)
So like I said, it really depends how you draw it on, and what your eye shape is like.

Sage for arguing in favor of asian aesthetics to people who don't really need this kind of makeup.

I really hope this is bait and that you aren't this stupid. Twiggy is an icon and has been since the 1960's.
