I want to make a laser trip wire hooked up to a camera so when someone steps through the laser and breaks the beam a picture is sent to my phone. Anyone know how to go about doing this?

if a computer is available, then a webcam and and some webcam security program should do the job. for example, I use Cam Wizard 10, which can send either a pic or a movie to an email address when the webcam detects movement.

This or use an infrared motion detector instead.

I'd get a cheap smartphone with a physical camera button, and then I'd take out the button and solder the contacts into an inverted output off whatever circuit is driving your laser, so that the low pulse of someone breaking the laser becomes a high pulse driving the phone's camera as if the button had been pressed. And then just have it upload to Drive or Dropbox or similar automatically.

but I've been drinking

Or just use a webcam hooked up to an old computer, run Linux, and use the "Motion" video program. It's all freeware.

the only pain in the ass is setting up a partial mask so that "motion" doesn't detect differences in every single damn frame due to noisy camera image.

You can run it all on a Ras Pi if you don't have a spare outdated laptop or computer.
