Portable speakers Angered424 05/22/14(Thu)15:09 UTC+1 No.641660 Report

I've an old guitar amplifier (10W) and my idea is to install a batterypack and use it as a portable speaker for parties and stuff when you need music. But i dont really know how i should build it, so please give me some tips.
Picture: that's the one i wanna "convert"

Get a 12V gel cell battery and a small power inverter to plug it into. Chances are it requires more than a single power rail and you won't be able to do that easily or in a practical manner with batteries.

A guitar amplifier like that one there isn't designed to be used as a full range speaker and will sound pretty shitty. It'll be nice and loud though.

Google Fender Frontman 10G Schematic.

Look like a double ended +/- 15 Vdc power supply regulated down to +/- 9 Vdc. So I'd use two sealed lead acid 12V batteries in series.

The schematic shows transformer plugged into circuit board. I'd find a similar plug, unplug the transformer and plug batteries into circuit board at that point, with a two pole power switch.

+/-12 Volts is a bit less than the +/- 15 provided by the transformer, but this will just reduce amp output a bit.

Oh, you're right, didn't notice OP wanted to use it as a general PA.

OP, guitar amps will not only sound shitty if you run music through it, bass frequencies could actually damage the speaker itself. If you had a portable synthesizer/keyboard amp that would work, but I wouldn't use a guitar amp for this purpose.

Single speaker 10 inch solid state combo amps usually sound like shit with guitar let alone music.
