That feeling when I have to overcome my ocd and use the wrong pieces for a job because it needs to be done "now", and I don't have the right parts to do it.

In this thread post things you built knowing full well you would feel bad about it afterwards.

I was fitting a new counter top at home and dropped a heavy tool on the main water valve.
It started to leak
It was terminated to a lead pipe that was concreted into the floor.

I covered it in layers of toilet tissue saturated in super glue until it was a solid leak free mass. A few months later I froze the copper pipe downstream and fitted a ball valve so the water could be turned off, but I know it's still sitting their, mummified in it's tomb, waiting to return.

>refurbing old glovebox for handling sensitive materials in R&D lab
>box is designed to use a blower to exhaust air
>box has to inert gas inlets
>hook up plant N2 to pressure-controlled inlet
>slap a needle valve on the other inlet and use it as an exhaust
>supervisor wants to flush it at 15 lpm
>wants desiccant filter inline to N2 inlet
>our desiccant filters are only efficient up to 5 lpm
>ziptie flowmeter to the front
>ziptie desiccant filter to the back

wtf ever. Thing has been humming along at <3 ppm for the last month. Fuck it, I'm not a maintenance man and all the other engineers are pussies who don't know how to use hose cutters

Good to see Time Warner already rushing to exploit limited infrastructure in the emerging markets in the war-torn middle east.

This. I'm a building engineer (read as boiler operator/maintenance guy) and have had to deal with actual engineer before. Every time I need to do a repair and don't have everything on hand I need or the repair require proprietary shit all I hear from them is, oh that's not right, or you should do something needless and complicated, or they try to use math using theoretical values. Fuckers piss me off and I often ask if they want to do the repair, they always say they're not allowed to. A couple of the older guys are alright, but I had to prove myself to them.
