Now?

Not really. We're playing hide and go seek with Jalalab hopped up on goat jenkem in caves. There is literally nothing to dog fight against. Maybe a goat stomach hot air balloon UAV or something but honestly, dogfighting is taking a break right now.

Wait until something heats up with a non Stone-Age Era country and we might see something.

Yes, ask the turks.

Many of their pilots used to spend hours fucking around with the greeks, getting locks on one another, jamming and evading, dancing about.

The two regularly ran border patrols that coincidentally met.

Its the essence of dogfighting. By and large the turkish F4s did it very well up until one greek crew trying to evade a lock flew into the sea and were killed.
After that the Souvlaki pleaded 'stop being mean, we're not playing anymore!' and the fun ended; since Syria those fun times are over as any pilot in the area on patrol needs to be constantly aware he may be getting lit up.

In a more real sense, China and Vietnam regularly had face-offs of dogfighting, pilots trying to get into positions and lock their rivals. There was a good media story about it, that the vietnamese simply couldn't get locks on the chinese and it was a serious worry to their government that in another shooting war with china they could lose every plane they sent up as thier pilots were too inexperianced.

I'm a Naval Aviator. Fly Super Hornets. Post here a lot, and lol at peoples' dumb ass posts regarding aviation.

Our pilots train for dog fighting all the time. Mostly with ourselves, but also with friendly nations. Obviously we aren't doing any now. I think at this moment the best odds at WVR dogfights are along the Turkey Syria border.

Also to the maintainers that post here I just want to say I really love and appreciate you guys. We all do.
>>
Anonymous 03/25/14(Tue)23:01 UTC+1 No.20549137 Report

Fighter pilots seem arrogant because of the selection they go through. Most pilots trainees end up flying cargo planes or helos. Only the best get to fly pointy nose. They know they are the best too.

Then stop treating us like shit.

Don't know if zoomies are better or worse at treating their maintainers like shit than helo pilots, but GOD DAMN.
>be helo maintainer for Army
>pilots tell us to bring them coffee
>pilots tell us to (while we're in the field) drive to McDonald's 45mins away and off-post so they can eat Croissanwich's while flying (we're stuck with MRE's)...and not give us money for it and bitch/start Art15's when we tell them no
>throw shit at us from low hovers (like MRE bombs, piss bottles, dip wads, etc) and then deride anyone who gets hit over the open-band radio
>make us clean their weapons
>make us come in on Saturdays/Sundays for the sole purpose of washing and waxing their helo's (which is against the rules), then sit there in lawn chairs and spray us with the hose
>intentionally mishandle munitions all the damned time (like throwing 2.75" rockets out the door of a blackhawk like it was a spear...at us)

So yeah. If you're a rotary-wing pilot I wouldn't spit my dip on you to put you out if you were on fire.

I haven't flown helos, so I can't speak to how hard they are to fly, but most of them are dual piloted and/or with aircrew in them. The team effort makes things a lot easier.

Flying 5 times faster all by your lonesome, you have to do everything yourself and much faster. You can sometimes make things easier by splitting up work inside a section or division, but when flying information there are also more things to worry about
