Is the simultaneous wielding of a knife and a gun a legitimate tactic?

Can it be done properly and if so, is it something you know how to do?

Anonymous 03/25/14(Tue)19:26 UTC+1 No.20546418 Report

It's stupid as shit. If you already have the gun, drawn use it.

I know it can be used to help control recoil (the same way a flashlight can be used) but other than that, close range defense I guess.
>>
Anonymous 03/25/14(Tue)19:27 UTC+1 No.20546436 Report

replace with flashlight pref with strobe function, 10000% more useful. That guy played waaaaay too much counter strike.

I guess technically an argument can be made, but its mostly for mall ninjas to feel cool. Yes holding a knife makes it slightly quicker if you need to use it (run out of ammo, malfunction) but the amount of interference it would cause with actually manipulating a handgun (which is a secondary weapon anyway) doesn't seem to be outweighed by the advantages.

I just needed a pic and I don't think you want me posting a CoD screenshot of a guy holding a knife cross-armed under his pistol.
>>

couldn't you have just posted this in the other shitty knife vs pistol mall ninja thread?
>>
Anonymous 03/25/14(Tue)19:29 UTC+1 No.20546454 Report

It's weeb bullshit. It makes it harder to shoot, harder to use a knife, leaves you without a free hand to easily reload with, leaves you without a free hand to do shit like opening doors.

And I could see it being dangerous to you if somebody manages to say, sneak up and tackle you.

Stick with learning to shoot a pistol effectively. Then maybe learn knife stuff if you want, and have a knife in a quick release sheath.

The only time anything resembling this grip is acceptable is when using a pistol and flashlight. It's an imperfect solution to not having a weaponlight, but the trade off of not having both hands on the weapon is actually worth being able to see.

There are actually daggers intended to be able to be used in conjunction with a handgun, although just as a backup weapon intended to be used to fight until you have access to your sidearm.

I was actually thinking that something like that would be cool. A knife that hooks around your hand, or otherwise doesn't require you to grip it so you still have your off hand free to manipulate things with.

It's useful as a firearm retention technique, and in situations where one person is fighting in extremely tight spaces, such as indoors.

Is it gimmicky as all hell, hell fucking yeah, but at the same time, we know how to fight with knives, having a knife plus a bludgeoning tool in the other hand isn't a very far stretch. Melding that with defensive pistol shooting techniques isn't nearly as hard as it sounds. Training would most likely involve airsoft or paint markers. The entire point is making quick transitions between hand to hand and shooting, with the point being to disentangle yourself and continue shooting as quickly as possible.

Yup, that's exactly what this dagger was intended for.
It's meant to be slipped behind a mag pouch or otherwise hidden so that if you do grapple with someone, they won't grab your own knife and stab you, along with being small enough to not significantly affect your gross motor skills.

That's actually not all that bad an idea for EDC, although I'd prefer something a little bit more urbane so that people don't look at me funny when I've gotta open a letter. I just don't like how thin the grips are on knives like that, my hands are too long to get a decent grip, although the karambity hook on the end looks like it'd give me a decent purchase on the frame, or at least the confidence that I'm not gonna slip on the knife and end up having to get another tendon reattached.
