hey /k/, if all goes well, ill be able to finally own cool guns.

im stuck in a grid lock between an ak and an ar. pretty much dead girdlock.

requirements.

>chrome lined bore

>doesn't need to be a bitch about ammo, steel, brass, anything will go bang.

>insurance of parts in case shit breaks

>doesn't need to be babied

i know i sounds like im in the ak market, but the way political shit is going, im thinking ar. i know ar's aren't jam-o-matic or anything, but i just like knowing i have the security of knowing an ak can be cleaned with a rag and motor oil if the end of days ever happened. but i also like the fact that the AR is here to stay and will always be "americas rifle" until we find something better.

help me decide /k/

both platforms meet your requirements if you buy a quality gun

both will fail your requirements if you buy the cheapest shit possible

Arsenal is still putting out AKs. Bulgarians now. Every bit as good as the Saigas they were converting at one point.

Why not both?

But seriously, go to a gun store, handle both, and buy the one you want.

Either, dude.
I started with an AR, two years later decided I like AKs better, bought an AK, sold AR, bought another AK, will probably buy another AR in the future. You'll probably end up getting both anyway.

tldr; either, dude

It's a matter of personal preference. See if you can shoot both and go from there. I've owned an AR as well as an AK. After shooting both, I've settled on the AK.

go with the AR probably easier to find ammo/parts for if the apocalypse happens unless you live in russia

Ak is cheaper to own and operate. AR is cheaper/easier to tacticool out if so desired.

Your best bet is to test out each.

This.

I started with AKs, bought three of them, then got an AR and realized I prefer ARs.

You might wind up with both in the end.

I would definitely recommend...
I would definitely recommend an ak, but I've never owned an ar-15, so maybe I'm biased. In my opinion 7.62x39 is a better round than .223, although it has more bullet drop.

>My old tantal, sold it due to barrel issues. Bought an AKM and never looked back.

>Doesn't need to be babied

Forget the AR then. You should clean it every time you finish at the range, lubricate it properly as well.

You could probably get away with not doing this but it'll come back to bite you in the long run.

I'd suggest starting with something low maintenance like an AK and then move on to an AR later when you feel to can responsibly take care of the rifle.

To me, the AK is a tool. It does what it's supposed to do with no real frills. The AR is an investment. Treat it right and it'll go the extra mile for you.

AR jams all the time.
AK can't hit the broad side of a barn.

Get an HK, it's the tool true operators choose.

Not even.
Just keep it oiled. I haven't cleaned my AR once this year. And that's with shooting competitions every 2 weeks and innadesert shooting on top of that. All with 0 malfunctions.

i used to have an ar before sandy hoax, i sold it during the great happening because i fell on hard times and needed the money.

i got to shoot a guys ak before and in comparing the two, i noticed a few things.

>i HATED the ar's charging handle location. whoever thought it was a good idea to put it there is a fucking moron. it would have been much better placed if they put it on the side in the same channel it sits in already.

>i dislike the ak's seemingly barbaric feel, and the way it holds, but i can deal with it.

>i like the ar's mags

>i dislike the ak's rock in mags. i can use them no problem, it's just i have to look at the mag as i put it in. i can prob get over this with more practice.
