Is there any point, at all, to reading works such as Ulysses and Gravity's Rainbow translated?

If not, why do they get translated?

Gravity's Rainbow is translatable IMO

I stopped reading translated works when someone here told me I wasn't reading the author anymore, but the translator. IT was a valid eye-opener.

I've spent roughyl 4 years ever since self-learning russian language to read the russian writers in their original language and it just keeps getting better and better.
